This is... My god this actually great. He doesn't seem to just be on the microphone, I think he actually believed himself to be Kaidan. The way he makes this message feels human. It feels real
This is perfection, I always wanted my femshep to hear Kaidan saying these words out loud. I honestly respected Kaidan's choice in ME2 so much. Nearly all of the other characters just blindly followed Shepard wherever she went, regardless of what she was doing. Kaidan was the only one who was not willing to compromise his morals and beliefs, even if it meant losing the person he loved. And I hated Cerberus from the start, so I honestly agreed with him and wish there would have been some way to avoid having to be the Illusive man's little puppet for a whole game. Bravo, Raphael! Such a heartfelt reading. Now that we know the remaster is happening, I really hope that Bioware works this into ME2! It would be such a missed opportunity if they don't, since the audio is already done and out there!
@FlyFreeSkyline I think I'm one of the few human beings out there that actually applauded Kaidan for what he said. All I could think was: "My God man ... the stones on you ... WOW." :o
Mr Sbarge does play video games and I cannot remember for sure, but I don't think he ever had to say Virmire or Ilos in ME1 OR 2. so he said it phonetically. I think this recording shows just how good of an actor he is, getting it to sound this good, getting so much emotion, so much feeling and meaning into it - without any sort of direction. so he mispronounced 2 words that don't exist outside of Mass Effect world. big deal, I think that man deserves all the slack we can cut him.
It's amazing how much the guy can deliver on JUST voice. Bad voice acting can totally break a mood, and a lot of voice actors seem to trade depth for range. A thousand voices, but none that deliver the emotion. Sbarge's voice is always easy to spot, but the man delivers on the emotion part. BTW, anyone else following his work in Once Upon A Time?
i love this, i was loyal. and of course i remember that night how can i forget, you can here the emotion deep i his voice, can't wait to see what happens in 3
S#@T JUST GOT REAL! That was fab! Thanks to the poster and to Mr. Sbarge for doing this for the fans. Love the emotion he put into the reading. It's perfect!
I gotta say, Kaiden's letter sounds better in a voice message than read on a terminal. ME2 may have been even more emotional if BW went with voice messages. Great performance by Raphael Sbarge, this made me tear up.
Ok, when I first read the letter in the game I was seriously angry and wanted to give Kaidan a sold biotic kick to the rear and then some (I mean a letter, really? no "I'm sorry" in person?), but having the voice to go with it just broke my heart lol as much as I like Garrus, my femShep is staying faithful to Kaidan
@maybeiso The whole "sounding drunk" thing adds to the image, in my opinion. I know I'd get shit-faced after seeing the last person I loved suddenly resurrected two years after they died.
I think Ashley and Kaidan's voice overs were both awesome, they reflected the characters well. Kaidan was more reserved and tried to control his emotions more, while Ashely was a more emotional person. It's only natural that her's would have more obvious emotion to it, because that was how she acted. But this matches Kaidan's personality perfectly too, because he wouldn't have allowed himself to sound so broken. They both stayed in their roles well, loved them both =)
Sounds like he's been drowning his sorrows in the bottom of the Comfort Bottle. Knowing Kaidan, this is some serious shit. Must commend Mr Sbarge for this little gem even though I play as MShep most of the time.
Thanksssssss, even though I'm a Garrus fan, I romanced Kaidan on the first game. Had this been in the second game, my Shepard would have had many many doubts about what to do with her romance.
I love his voice so much. I always romance and save Kaidan. I hated Cerberus right from the start and that never changed my entire playthrough of all three games. He puts so much emotion and humanity into this, it's absolutely wonderful.
People, this file isn't in the game. The letter is an e-mail that Kaidan sends Fem!Shep following the Horizon mission if she romanced him in ME1 and he survived Virmire to be around in ME2. The audio in this vid was Kaidan's voice actor reading it aloud as a treat for fans, he posted it on his personal blog last Thanksgiving.
When I read the letter I was like "WTF ! This is no excuse, I'm still dumping you !" and now I'm hearing this. It's so emotional, I feel bad. Very nice, I love his final "I don't know" ! (though I don't like the fact he is a Spectre now) Still, I went for Garrus... I wonder who I will choose in ME3. :3 (Lord, Thank you Bioware !)
This inspired me to actually go back and finish my ME1 playthrough ;3; I started with ME2 and since I romanced Garrus I wasn't going to bother but oh god I have to have at least one romance with Kaidan now.
I wrote a comment on the Ashley Williams letter clip. And I am just going to say that the same is true for Kaiden and this recording. Here is what I wrote about Ashley: "Love or hate Ashley, this performance is amazing and brings a part of Williams I didn't realize existed. My ME fan friends who I talk to always hated Kaiden Alenko and Ashley Williams, and it turned out to my surprise that they are widley and wildly disliked. Hearing this performance brings something to them that makes me forget about all the hate."
@CaityLaner I thought the same thing. But not in the same context. This letter has more oomph when spoken aloud than actually reading the darn thing. It just seemed impersonal to me and a very cowardly way to back out of his mistake. I mean they have live recordings, so why not live record the apology. But this, has restored even more faith in this guy. Thanks Sbarge! You understand the fangirls perfectly!
@CaityLaner Interesting enough, one of the designers that first began the creation of Garrus's character said that the turian species was inspired by birds, like an eagle.
I was so miserable after Horizon. Getting that letter... That made it better, but I still felt so betrayed. So now it's Garrus, to the end. He knew better than to doubt me when I was vulnerable!
@MissPumpkinJuice Because I work with reptiles and I'm a nut - Thane is not amphibian, he is reptilian, hence the moisture causing damage to his lungs *this is not the case for all reptiles of course, but basically, you don't want to be giving your bearded dragon a bath everyday. Misting Thane down so he can shed his skin (as I assume he does) may be required though. And Garrus is more like ... an avian, insectoid, space dinosaur.
@cat15man Ashley sends Male!Shep a similar letter following Horizon if you romanced her in the first game, though hers sounds a bit more conciliatory towards Male!Shep than Kaidan's does to Fem!Shep. Note you won't get these letters if Ash and Kaidan weren't romanced in ME1, nor will you get them if the lover in question died on Virmire obviously.
@CaityLaner I just needed funny and popular definition =) P.S. The "nut" part: By the way, there may be some incorrects. I think most of Mass Effect races, are like freakin platypus. Platypus combines a semi-aquatic + mammal + bird nose + endemic + maybe something else, but I forgot. So the friends from UFO may have a lot of combinations. I don't think they are just something one and nothing else. We just don't have enough information for absolutely correct result. That's IMHO, of course =)
you may love him as Carth Onasi or as Kaidan Alenko, but he will always be the traitor that almost got everyone on Star Trek: Voyager killed, then proceeded to get thrown to his death in the plasma vent.
Its not to late you know. And also thats good you felt that way. Want to know why? Because if you turn it into a role play aspect, your Shepard misses Kaiden more. He feels guilty that he chose her. So maby you made the right choise in that aspect.
seeing as they do make it back to the alpha quadrant, he helped stop the sith, and helped in the fight against the reapers, his crimes can be forgiven. :3
He reads this with a fantastic sense of rhythm. The pauses and inflection are great. Signs of a great actor.
This is... My god this actually great. He doesn't seem to just be on the microphone, I think he actually believed himself to be Kaidan. The way he makes this message feels human. It feels real
Theirs no Shepard without Alenko.
This is perfection, I always wanted my femshep to hear Kaidan saying these words out loud. I honestly respected Kaidan's choice in ME2 so much. Nearly all of the other characters just blindly followed Shepard wherever she went, regardless of what she was doing. Such a heartfelt reading.
Now that we know the remaster is happening, I really hope that Bioware works this into ME2! It would be such a missed opportunity if they don't, since the audio is already done and out there!
I feel bad for those who chose Kaiden to die in ME1.
"And then...I saw you..." omg. *wibble*
I'll always forgive Kaidan, and I'll explain that I never did or will alliance myself with Cerberus, I hated Cerberus from the very beginning anyways.
God I love this man. He has such a great voice and is so nice to his fans.
@FlyFreeSkyline I think I'm one of the few human beings out there that actually applauded Kaidan for what he said. All I could think was: "My God man ... the stones on you ... WOW." :o

He played 3 of my favorite characters in gaming, Carth Onasi, Sorch, and Kaidan.
This man’s voice….does thing to my ears and my brain… 🥲🥲🥲🥲
.... sobs for fifty years
He had me at the first "Shepard."
FAN GIRL SQUEEEEEEEEEEAL
Listening to this letter feels like some kind of invasion of one's privacy which is an obvious proof to me that the acting of Raphael is brilliant.
Oh my god this guy is a great actor.
That came across a lot better in voice than it did in text. I love you for doing this Raphael Sbarge.
I could listen his voice all day3 Always had soft spot for Kaidan, I've been loyal to him in all 3 games.
AAaaah, my heart! Damn you Sbarge, my feels! I can't believe I've missed this!
Ha, when I got to this point in game, I had to start this up and read along with it.
Totally awesome.
KAIDAN YOU CAN HAVE IT ANYTIME YOU WANT IT!!! As long as you remember how to pronounce Virmire next time.
oh look, im melting.
i love this, i was loyal. and of course i remember that night how can i forget, you can here the emotion deep i his voice, can't wait to see what happens in 3
way beautiful....
A hurt man who still has the will and the power to say hes sorry and hes able to por his heart out its just...so beautiful
@maybeiso The fact that the guy went out of his way to record this is pretty damn impressive. I can overlook him pronouncing 2 words wrong ;)
Omg my heart
this is why i can't cheat on kaiden!!! besides, i'm not the type to cheat!!! lol
S#@T JUST GOT REAL! That was fab! Thanks to the poster and to Mr. Sbarge for doing this for the fans. Love the emotion he put into the reading. It's perfect!
Oh my god 8'C i love this letter! its official, Raphael Sbarge is now one of my favorite voice actors ever
Damn, he gives a great performance here. Kinda wish this was put in the game.
I gotta say, Kaiden's letter sounds better in a voice message than read on a terminal. ME2 may have been even more emotional if BW went with voice messages. Great performance by Raphael Sbarge, this made me tear up.
Kaidan forever!!
Kaidan is freaking awesome.
Year and a half later. Still gives me chills.
Raphael Sbarge is the main reason I play Mass Effect, I could listen to his voice all day :)
OMG I just love his voice!
For me he'll always be Carth Onasi
MY HEART DROPPED FIVE STORY
BYE
Ok, when I first read the letter in the game I was seriously angry and wanted to give Kaidan a sold biotic kick to the rear and then some (I mean a letter, really? no "I'm sorry" in person?), but having the voice to go with it just broke my heart lol as much as I like Garrus, my femShep is staying faithful to Kaidan
Why'd i watch this at 1.30am, I'm sobbing now dammit.
I left Ashley back on Virmire;
and I'm a dude.
Biotic Bros 4 Lyfe.
@maybeiso The whole "sounding drunk" thing adds to the image, in my opinion. I know I'd get shit-faced after seeing the last person I loved suddenly resurrected two years after they died.
Do you even remember that night, before Ilos?
OH HELL YEAH AND IM GONNA GET U BACK IN ME3 LOL
I think Ashley and Kaidan's voice overs were both awesome, they reflected the characters well. They should have done this in me 2 as a voice mail it would have had more feels to it, but i can listen to it here so yaaaaay
Thanksssssss, even though I'm a Garrus fan, I romanced Kaidan on the first game. Had this been in the second game, my Shepard would have had many many doubts about what to do with her romance.
God damn. This is incredible. So human.
Hard to hear this and then see him in "Once Upon a Time"... >.<
Love you, Raphael. ♥♥
i know!! why do you have to tease us kaiden???!!! thank you raphael sbarge for this!!! he's a great voice actor!!
his voice melts me a little inside.
YAY! Raphael Sbarge, he goes all out for us fangirls....
I love his voice so much. I always romance and save Kaidan. I hated Cerberus right from the start and that never changed my entire playthrough of all three games. He puts so much emotion and humanity into this, it's absolutely wonderful.
I cry every time when I'm hearing this :P
oh my god. CHILLS

I love Kaidan. I'll have to stop referring to him internally as Carth (Onassi) from now on.
Thanks Raphael
When I read the letter I was like "WTF ! This is no excuse, I'm still dumping you !" and now I'm hearing this. It's so emotional, I feel bad. Very nice, I love his final "I don't know" ! (though I don't like the fact he is a Spectre now)

:( i hope they put this in the game somewhere lol its so great!
Damn! Raphael put some good acting into this.
he is so adorable but I understand bottling up emotion it makes things alot better that way my bf gets so mad lol
This one is better than Ashley's !
He's amazing!
@CaityLaner I thought the same thing. But not in the same context. This letter has more oomph when spoken aloud than actually reading the darn thing. wow I have listened to this a lot and I just now noticed it zooms out
Reading the comments and I seem to be the only one sobbing uncontrollably here. Don't mind me, I guess!
I feel guilty now for romancing Garrus the first chance I got... Got damnit Bioware, why do you do this to me?!
Amazing...
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! Now, Thane, I want you to be the next one! WOOOO!
I feel like they just shoehorned Kaidan's bisexuality out of nowhere.
@CaityLaner Interesting enough, one of the designers that first began the creation of Garrus's character said that the turian species was inspired by birds, like an eagle.
@CaityLaner According to bioware, Thane is based off an exotic fish, Garrus is a bird of prey/dinosaur and Wrex is a type of bat
I'm a dude, a straight dude and I love Kaidan.
trust me, we do as well, every time I saw Ashley in Mass Effect 3 I couldn't help but say "I wish I had saved Kaidan instead".
@ginnoveffect and that's what makes it even better.
I was so miserable after Horizon. Getting that letter... That made it better, but I still felt so betrayed. So now it's Garrus, to the end. He knew better than to doubt me when I was vulnerable!
Alex Buffaloe what happened on Horizon was Illusive Man's fault. Not Kaidan's.
I'm sure Shepard would agree with me "Knowing all that doesn't make it any easier." lol
And Garrus is more like ... an avian, insectoid, space dinosaur.
...damn it. Damn it, Kaidan. Damn it damn it damn it damn it.
It's like he felt like shit and got drunk and decided to leave Shepard a voice message.
If only I could find a real-life Kaidan. :sigh:
@cat15man Ashley sends Male!Shep a similar letter following Horizon if you romanced her in the first game, though hers sounds a bit more conciliatory towards Male!Shep than Kaidan's does to Fem!Shep. Note you won't get these letters if Ash and Kaidan weren't romanced in ME1, nor will you get them if the lover in question died on Virmire obviously.
Nice!
Dear CaityLaner,
Turians were originally going to be avian, but the concept changed to cat dra
I'm crying
@CaityLaner
I just needed funny and popular definition =)
P.S.
The "nut" part:
By the way, there may be some incorrects.
I'm sorry Kaidan. Your apology sounds sincere enough, but only a turian can satisfy me the way no man ever can. ;)
This sounds like it was on a radio show or a telephone message.
SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"That night... meant everything to me" *dies*
Time for playthrough # 4589375983745
you may love him as Carth Onasi or as Kaidan Alenko, but he will always be the traitor that almost got everyone on Star Trek: Voyager killed, then proceeded to get thrown to his death in the plasma vent.
God. This makes him sound sooooooooo much like Carth Onasi xD This only makes this vid better actually xD
I'm sorry Carth...
Its not to late you know. And also thats good you felt that way. Want to know why? Because if you turn it into a role play aspect, your Shepard misses Kaiden more. He feels guilty that he chose her. So maby you made the right choise in that aspect.

@sinistralwing Thank you~ Replying and voting up so people MIGHT read it.
To late Kaiden... I'm gonna sick Garrus on you for breaking my Shepards heart.
