Hi all, I just wanted to say I know what maize is , I just didn't put it together that they were referring to the color, I thought maybe it was a stitch from back then lol, that's all, Thnks for all the comments
I was yelling! yellow! yellow! ... like I was watching the footy!
Thank you, you have put me out of my misery 😂
Maize is a yellow color. Probably a common color yarn at the time.
Probably but I see that it is called a corn stitch! They are kinda worked differently but end up looking the same. Depending on how this winds up looking i think I’ll be making my grandsons baby blanket like this! I have been looking for the perfect pattern for months! I’ll link the video I found
That's what I was thinking. The color maize
that's what I've been finding too. even the color code for "maize".
Literally came here to make this reply
Agreed! I was saying to my screen, “it’s a colour!” 😂
I've been confused for a long time by "the picot". My grandmother taught me her way, but them my great aunt from the other side of my family taught me a complete different way (and was very confused by my way, too). I had an old crafts book which contained another way to make a picot, and when I looked online... Rather than settle the matter I found a few more ways.
These days I think a "picot" is just the word for a "pointy thing" you make in crochet. It's not important how you got there, it's important how it looks in the end. That's where I have landed with it ;)
I like the way you think. : )
I agree. That’s what I think a picot is too.
It's the first mile-a-minute pattern! Beautiful.
The two stitches combine make the maize “corn” stitch! Happy Mother’s Day to all!
Those picos look like butterflies-ish! 🦋❣️ Happy Mother's Day to you and all the women who are watching and play important roles to other's lives (even the furry, scaley, feathery ones)! 💝💐🐱🐶🐹🐭🐰🦎🐢🦜🐔🐝
To you as well.
HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY!
Thank You, Happy Mother's Day to you too .
Thank you so much. I am a mother of two male cats. Happy Mother's Day to you, too!
I hope all the moms had a very Happy Mothers Day.💐
I had to run to my hook drawer. I have a huge plastic hook with no marking. It measures almost 3/4 of an inch wide!
I probably pick it up at a yard sale with some others. I've never used it, but I may now.
Dear Corinna, I must tell you how much your videos mean to me. While my Grandma taught me crochet stitches, I wasn't taught how to interpret a pattern, and I struggle to this day. Watching you decipher and adapt feels like therapy for what ails me. Plus I adore vintage fiber arts. Thank you so much!🧶
I second this comment 💯. Thank you!
I can't read a pattern either. This is calming me
I'm very sorry about the audio issue at the 25:00 min mark, it only lasts a few min , I have no idea what happened there
Some times tec has it own mind
Glad it's a glitch for a while I thought my TV was dying on me.
Watching these has made me determined to use "thus" in any patterns I write in the future -- gotta keep the tradition alive 😂
As I was watching this, I realized what it was about the same time you did. Of course, I had the benefit of sitting on one of these at the time! I was like, "Wait! that's THIS!" My great grandmother made this one, and I always thought it was an interesting pattern.
So it's basically a Victorian mile-a-minute afghan like the ones from the 80's. Just proves everything old is new again. Thanks for doing these videos, they are so much fun. Happy stitching.🧶
Hi! Just wanted to tell you how heartwarming it is that your boy does these mystery choices for you. It seems to me like you guys have a great relationship and it makes me think about my own boy(s) and how great friends we are. Also, I really love your videos! Don't ever stop!
You should have ‘I don’t share my lipstick or my hooks’ printed on a shirt. Love it!
Given that the previous row is black and the following is white, 'maize' probably means yellow like corn. It's telling you to switch colors.
From what I looked up,, maize in crochet is an actual stitch called a corn stitch,, which seems to be an early term for a popcorn stitch. How interesting 🤔
Maize is yellow. I have a chair covers that came from my great grandmother in this similar pattern! I have a picture of one of them
I’m English and I’ve crocheted since I was eight. I was taught that double crochet is your single crochet and your double crochet is our treble crochet. We do not have a single crochet but we do have a slip stitch. I love your videos and I hope this will help with your patterns thankyou x x
I enjoyed this video, especially your stream-of-conscious commentary. I liked that you went back to the pattern and reworked it to your satisfaction. I respect your creativity in this.
Maine stitch is called a corn on the cob stitch.
You made me laugh so hard when you said "Variegated wood" instead of wool! 😂 It is 5:40 am ..... no meanness intended it just struck me funny! Love your videos and you too. Thank you for sharing! Bless you.
I think it meant for you to do the single crochet in yellow when it said maize, then join in white.
It’s a mystery within a mystery, how interesting.
It calls for 4 colors white, black ,and yellow(maize ) then 4th color
That Picot stitch would make a pretty border stitch, like a lace
THANK YOU for explaining that the typing sound is your air conditioner. That's been bugging me for a long time. This episode is so much fun.
I was wondering the same thing.
l always feel smarter after your vids and l can crochet anything thankyou
Picot is a term used in tatting, I'm thinking, it is the group of stiches making the little " fans " as well.🤷 Great grandmother used to tat and tried teaching all us ladies,...a lot of intense, tiny, stiches! Good luck!!! ML💓😁
This is a pattern I would actually do. Very pretty. I would omit the maize color too
Always amazing what new antique stuff you are coming up with! Thanks so much for your work and dedication. This is a gorgeous, ever so Victorian pattern … imagine wearing a small black dress and a broad shoulder shawl done with this stitch❤️Thanks and best wishes from Germany
You work wonders lady! I would not even get past the pattern😅
It reminds me of a mile a minute blanket. Ty for all your hard work! There's NO way I could do this 😂 The 2nd one looks way better!
Happy Mother's Day! ❤
23:56 play away… just be home before the street light comes on 😉 maize… corn yellow… color… then sc all around in that color. Neat little “picot” stitch… reminded me of almost a half Star stitch 😁… 31:12 still playing 🧡🧡🧡🧡
HI! Thanks again for sharing your fun and interesting patterns. Will give it a try. It's so nice that your son is also part of this. 😊
The stitches look like a butterfly 🦋 when put together. The stitch itself looks like a slanted granny. I think Mazie is the color also. So the Afghan is white, black & mazie. Sounds like something that I would like . And the comment that it is a vintage mile a minute I think you're right.
I love how it turned out. Joining with the white really set it off. Bravo job well done!
Oh yes the second sample looks better,i really like it
I love this vintage pattern so much, I’ve started crocheting some squares in grey and cream merino and silk yarn. Thank you for sharing 💕
Happy Mother's Day everyone! And I love this stitch. I want to try those first stitches and play with this pattern!
Now you got to come back with the colour Maize (yellow) added, lol 😂
I was indeed screaming it was yellow yarn LOL
I wish we could add pics with our comments. I used a thicker yarn and larger hook while stitching along. My colors are very different from Corrina's. Although I made fewer picots my strip is 33". It'd be nice if YT would let us share pics.
I couldn't agree more!!! but then we would have a bunch of dk picks and gruesome pics to deal with, Im sure UA-cam considered that , but I would love to have pics in the comments
Hi in my search I found a Hat/beanie on Ravelry that looks similar the what you are making. the hat was called Maize Beanie pattern by Sarah Gross
Interesting beginning stitch.
I think it would make a pretty garland.
I agree, Maize is yellow color. Love to see what you make.
Okay, maybe I'm crazy, but that first two rows of "picots" looked like corn kernels to me, so when it called for maize, I thought it was asking for more of those picots. But I really like the way you finished it with the extra black. So pretty! 🎉
That really turned out beautiful! Interesting stitch. Ive not seen it on a tutorial before. Thank you, Corinna. 🎩💖✨
Happy Mother's Day to you and all the Mother's watching this wonderful lady!
Same to you!
It's the kind of stitch I'd use to make quick gifts for people! A scarf should be done SO fast!
Love it! I do like the second version in black! Beautiful. Love ❤️ thinking along with you on these patterns. It would drive me nuts to decipher them....I can barely figure out a modern simple one! Learning more from you....thanks!😊
Have to say, I was almost yelling at my phone to do the SC round a darkish yellow/maize. 😊 However, I do love both of your black & aran speckle interpretations as well! It's like you know this, but put on the spot due to filming. You always do a great job!
I always use waxed paper for those hooks that need to slide the wool easier.
It looked so much better after you added the black bordering. Great job! I think if a person used a bright variegated yarn, it would simulate stained glass. I'm specifically thinking of a Red Heart yarn from the 80s. My mom made L'eggs Eggs toys for my little brother with that yarn. It still sells at Walmart these days. It's basic red, blue, yellow, green, orange, and purple, not neon colors. That would give the classic stained glass affect. However, you could obviously use whatever variegated you like. Have a great day and thanks for your videos!
I learned to knit with that yarn in the 1950s as a kid. Loved the metal foil heart that used to come with Red Heart yarns.
I agree with the comment regarding the "corn" stich
Love the 2nd version better, too. So cool.
As I read the pattern that row of black should have been in ‘mazie’ yellow then joined with white, but like you I think the black is a much better choice. 👏👏❤️❤️🇬🇧
I also think maize is the color yellow, maybe more of a dull yellow. I did like the black border around the edges more than the white, though! That was a neat pattern. I am not sure if I would have wanted yellow added, but it might have looked cool? That's probably why it said to join it with the white. It was a bit confusing though without a picture. Thanks Corinna!
I wonder if "maize" might be a color? Something in the yellow family maybe?
Listening to the classical music brings me back to my younger days as it is something my mom would have playing through the house all day long..........
Like the first mile a minute
I don't know if it's what was intended, but whatever you've created is excellent! Throw some word-salad at Corina and get a work of art back. Kudos 👏
That’s a really neat pattern, I can see it in a placemat. (But I hate working into the chains so it would drive me nuts to work)
More 'flip'n pick'n' projects out of the book, please. ❤
Happy Mothers Day,
A very nice stitch / patron for a blanket like it very much ❤❤❤❤
Happy mother's day!
Happy Mother's Day!
Maize is a specific shade of yellow, which you were supposed to switch to at the end of the black and work single crochets around the piece then switch back to the white. I am currently working on a quilt that uses maize for some of the squares.
Happy Mother’s Day ma’am 🧡
Beautiful, I love it.
It is a very unique stitch, but I think a modern equivalent would be something like: *ch4, turn, skip first st, sc3tog (leaning cluster made), repeat from *.
This is really nice. I like the later interpretation. Looks very snuggly and I’m sure there will be many crocheted! Great job and thank you for the inspiration❤
I love the music choice this video!
When a hook feels sticky, use wax paper on them. Works with wood, plastic and metal hooks.
You got it. I really like it.
I think you got it spot on, seeing as the word “leviathan”, is from the Hebrew word “liwyāthān”. It’s used several times in the Hebrew Scriptures & is generally understood to refer to the crocodile, or possibly some other large, powerful aquatic animal.
So can you imagine this with a dark olive green as the main color, the black, maize, & then the hint of white? 😍
Quite an adventure!
Maize is yellow
Thinking maize is a colour.
I like it. A unique stitch, thanks
Maize is the color of yellow corn
Maze is a color
Really good stitch pattern structure so interesting to see something 'new' ❤️❤️❤️
Maize st is the corn st,the slip st row is the first row of two rows ,I hope this helps x
In this case it was yellow. Not a stitch because it started the stitch to use.
Happy Mothers day, thank you for this video.
What a stunning pattern. This would make a very modern-looking afghan.
Maize is the color yellow. Interesting pattern. Looks like a snake's belly.
It's the corn stitch.
Just FYI, I think Leviathon in the Bible refers to the crocodile, and this kind of looks like the bumps and ridges on a crocodiles back. Really liked this one. Thanks.
I have a vintage blanket that looks very similar.
That looks better.
Maize is the color yellow, which is similar to color of corn.
Maize is a shade of yellow 😊
I really like this pattern and I love your videos! Happy Mother's Day to you and to all the Mom's here! 💐🌼🌺🌹🌸
Pretty ❤
This picot would make a great border.
I totally want to make this now😊
Yeah like the other poster said, it's a yellowish colour after sweetcorn
As a few others have said, I'm sure maize is referring to a yellow colour.
I was actually thinking corn and many commenters have said yellow and it’s a corn stitch. Yah for me!😂
I just love how this turned out Corinna…..amazing ..loved the second look … but also loved the first look….. great job once again hun..❤️
I believe you need a yellow yarn ...( maize ) then work your white row
It's pretty! I think the second version you did would make a great striped sweater.
I really like the look of this. Wondering if the original color is called maize? Just a guess. I can see it being left on the arm of a sofa in case there is a chill in the air!❤❤❤
