Hey Nate... do you ever have a cool chord progression you're working on and you're on the very last chord and the only chord that seems to work is the V chord? But you don't want to use the same old V. It just seems too "of course". Are there some ways of finding alternatives to use... that might open up some unique ways to complete the progressions? Thanks once again!
What a great question! So let’s say your cool chord progression is in the key of C. Try the b7 like a Bb9. Sort of think end of “Layla”. In fact, you could do the Fm7 to Bb9 to C.. Don’t forget about the old Dm7b5 (instead of Fm) or Abmaj7 or Ab6. Those are all the tension chords (ii, IV, V, vii) of Eb. (Fm7, Abmaj7, Bb7, Dm7b5). This is sometimes referred to as Cush chords. To me it’s more like Gospel changes. One more idea: You can also use a tritone substitution for the five. So Dbmaj7 to C. Db (or C#) is the tritone to G (the V). Does this help? 🙏
Still the best part of Saturday morning
Here as well
You’ve come a long way from the days of Twilight Fusion my brother.
😄👍 I think we both have! Great to hear from you, Gabe. Give me a holler if you’re ever in the Springfield area!!!
Really fun content. Guatemala by the way. It's nutty.
Thank you! 🙏 I appreciate you watching and commenting. I’ll have to try some of that Guatemalan coffee some time.☕️👍
