I'd say you could move to downtown Portland without a car as long as you don't plan on going hiking anywhere, or you have relatives or friends that don't mind driving and taking you on outings. Unless you dont mind only travelling to the places the Amtrak can take you to.
At least the walk score and word of mouth say so.
But of course the typical rent in downtown or the old port is higher. ...But at least you wont have car ownership expenses. You have to weigh the options.
I am hoping to move there within the next 10 years, so I appreciate your content! I think I've lived the rural life long enough to know its not my forever home. At not least if i want to die happy.

@Zillenial Tries you are totally right! Portland has all you need if you didn't want to have a car, but I don't know if I'd be able to do it haha! Also, thank you for the comment!

Interesting numbers. I could even see some things such as utilities and heating costs being higher. It would be interesting to hear about those who...survive (my guess "living" the arts scene, dining and entertainment are out of the question) on take home wages that are more typical for Maine say in the $1200.00 to $2500.00 a month range. Property tax can vary a lot in Maine, but in some areas it can be four to five times what it should be. Maine isn't unique as these problems go, somehow change is needed. Is the problem urban elitism or what?

Thanks so much for watching the video and commenting! You are right depending on how much electricity and heat you use those numbers can definitely go up. I would say that the nice thing about Portland is that there are plenty of towns surrounding the city where you can find something that is going to be much more affordable than if you were to decide to live right in the heart of the city. I appreciate the comment again, and thanks for watching!
