    I have no affiliation with either bulb or company. But to run this test fairly and correctly. These bulbs should have been connected DIRECTLY to their own power supplies, not daisy chained. They should have been inside a closed vivarium (as the manufacturer intended) and left for at least 60 minutes to get to full optimum temperature. As well as ran over the course of a few days on a stat in a working enclosure. This would be then a better "Real World" test.
    I am all for testing and working out what is best for our animals and our pockets!! But lets use them as they have been built and designed for.

    I like how spread out the heat is on the prorep. Appreciate you taking the time to show us :)

    There’s a reptile forum with the inventor of the dhp “Arcadia John”, who has some tips for the dhp and how to get the most out of it, ideally - you’d be looking to utilise it against convection, such as above a slate or some rocks, the idea being you heat them and they heat the enclosure providing a more varied heat gradient and a more natural source of heat.
    Just the same as you would, say a reptile radiator - as you aren’t heating the air like a che, your heating or radiating an object which then heats the air.
    Still, loved the experiment and I think I’m the right set up, these will be great.

    Just discovered you and I love it. I know this video is a year old, but thank you for this. I'm actually looking to get a DHP for my beardies 120gallon and this has helped me for exactly what I'm looking for

    Great Job! Yes we love the deep comparison etc videos!! Both are great products! I like how you pretty much show us they both are good and what scenarios work

    I'd put money on that Arcadia is measuring air temperature at those distances, not surface temperatures. Also, did you let them run for a while so the substrate you're measuring can heat soak? That's when you'll get the real temps they're capable of.

    Interesting, I’d love to see a heat map to visualise the differences. I mean it’s probably a lot of effort just for curiosity 😂 but to see it put into a diagram showing bands of temperatures between the two, where they start and end, maybe 1 degree intervals, would be super interesting to compare ☺️

    I hope this is true for all the bulbs am trying to fine the right one i can use day n night . This has been very helpfull thank you . I think the Arcadia would be okay on a small enclosure . Were the prorep would be better on a larger enclosures .

    This is an amazing video I’d love
    To see a comparison between DHp and ChE to see the difference as I want to change to DHP but worried about trouble of heating the whole Viv

      Dylan Pangea Reptile has a DHP that's in stock and more readily available than the Arcadia. Also they have up to 100 watt. I use them and their halogen heat bulbs as well.

    Really interesting video, given me a lot to think about. I've got two snakes from Cheshire Reptile Rescue that both currently have the Arcadia DHP for night time heat, but now I'm thinking about switching out to the Pro Rep one instead. Thank you for the info, very helpful!

    Really like this! Thank you! Have the Acadia DHP 80w for my leopard gecko. Dialing in with the thermostat now makes sense. Got it figured out now with paper towel sub and many terracotta pots and rocks to absorb and radiate out. Careful! These need continuous monitoring with lazer temp reader to get it just right☺️

    Thanks for the Video - I am in the middle of setting up an enclosure for a Brazilian Rainbow Boa and I was wondering about the humidity? I have an Arcadia DHP (in a cage), but the Trixie Pro Socket (Ceramic socket) has warnings not to use in a humid environment? Any tropical set up will have humidity. Do you have any advice or issues with DHPs / sockets & humidity? Thanks!!!

    • @NORTHERNEXOTICS
      @NORTHERNEXOTICS  3 роки тому +1

      I think the heat that close to the lamp will evaporate any moisture in the air before it directly gets into the fitting. Just don't directly spray it

    Interesting, has me thinking to swap out for the pro rep for my water dragon, its used daytime in conjunction with a halogen and for night time heat balance, but a wider dispersal is always nice for a 3 ft lizard.

    Now, about the mesh... do you reckon that's sufficient or would you still need a mesh cage?

    • @NORTHERNEXOTICS
      @NORTHERNEXOTICS  3 роки тому +2

      I'm for sure using a cage because the animal can still touch the reflector and that gets hot. However the arcadia thermal zoo pro leaves the reflector part bare

    • @MaliciousMollusc
      @MaliciousMollusc 2 роки тому

      @wakenbaker-uk Not a normal cage, no. It's around 4+inches in diameter. I had to custom my own cage from heavy garden wires and steel mesh.
      Fun fact tho: it doesn't make the metal warm. Goes right through where it needs to go

    Hi, is there any chance you could compare the “Arcadia ProT5 Kit - 7% ShadeDweller” and the “generation 2 reptiles systems eco t5 zone 1”??
    (It has to be the generation 2, as it’s brand new out on the peregrine live food web site)

      @NORTHERNEXOTICS  3 роки тому +1

      I'll speak with my contacts who have a peregrine account and try get my hands on it but to make it a fair test it'll have to be the zone 2 vs 7%

    I’m in the US and several years ago my parents bought a basking light similar to a deep heat projector for my leopard gecko but I never used it. I now have decided to try it out but have been trying to find the brand of it online and it’s no where to be found! (It’s called ExoRepti if anyone’s interested). But it doesn’t have ANY info on the box as to what it is except for the fact it says it’s a ‘carbon infra-red heater/ basking spot lamp’. It’s super weird I prolly will test it out but end up getting a better quality deep heat projector. But yeah, has anyone else heard of this brand?

    Is it safe to use for snakes? The only thing I’m concerned about is having to use the slate at the bottom as it can get very hot and don’t want my snake to obviously get burnt laying in it.

    Like the comparison, like builds too. The problem is I have to pause, use conversion for American Standards for measure, and then pause again for temperature conversions. So back and forth, back and forth. Some compare and give both Fahrenheit and Celsius as well as Centimeters and Inches. I will come to your channel when the notification title is interesting.

    Oh wow. I use the Arcadia DHP for my leopard geckos, never realised it was such a tight beam of heat like that. Recently we got some prorep ones at the zoo I work at and I was convinced they wouldn't be as good as the Arcadia so this video has been an amazing watch and now I'll be less of an Arcadia snob when it comes to these heaters.

    Great video, think a lot of people will consider the pro rep after this. That beam just seems too tight on the Arcadia. Bit of a let down really on Arcadia’s part considering there supposed to be the leaders in the heating and lighting industry

    that arcadia one stick it in the bin lol .i have had the prorep 80w on my main bosc next to a flood light 150w and i can tell hes more in his basking spot and when i have him out he does seem warmer for longer .but over all hes an over active ass best of times .but with no light emmited from these thats why i have a flood light next to it just so he knows its his spot lol

    I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I plugged my Arcadia 80W DHP into a basic on/off dome and it's just NOT putting off that much heat. I don't get it. Even after 45 minutes it barely gets warm.
