Would I just want to keep a UVB light on a timer throughout the day and just leave the DHP on at all times? Really trying to get my lighting and heating situation figured out.
Under my reptile hide it's not getting hot I'm using slate so should do, Do I aso need proper slate hide for heat to pass through from the floor slate to the hide

Hi Hunter, question! I am switching to a Dhp from a heat mat, what do you do with the DHP at night? I'll have a dimming stat, but with the heat mat, it's on all the time. Do I leave the Dhp on all the time and just drop the temp at night? Or do I have to manually shut it off every day? Thanks to any help you can offer!
Great question! My dimming thermostat has a “night mode” which allows you to set a different temperature at night. I have it set 5° F lower at night than during the day. If your thermostat doesn’t have a night mode, leave it at the same temperature all the time. :)

I currently use a heat mat, but I'm researching other options at the moment. Why is a dimming thermostat needed over a regular on/off thermostat? I like the idea of getting a deep heat projector, but any dimming thermostat I've found is well over $100 which is definitely out of my budget.
A regular on/off thermostat wears out the filament very quickly. It would make the DHP need to be replaced multiple times per year as opposed to every 2-3 years.

I use the UVB as the daylight source. It’s plugged into a smart outlet so that it turns on at sunrise and off at sunset each day. This way, she gets the full day-length cycle every year.
Hey there! So i finally for everything to set mine up in my geckos 20 gallon long tank and is it normal for the 50 watt DHP to take forever to get to temp? I have it hooked up to the exo terra 600 watt pulse thermostat like you have and i set the day and night to 95 f like well over an hour ago and its barely up to 91.... Does it take a while to get to temp?

Great question! The more advanced dimming thermostats dim the DHP instead of turning it on and off to reach the desired temperature. That said, I ended up returning the Herpstat for an Exo Terra 600w dimming thermostat, which I much prefer.

Right now I have a normal light, I do not like that to much I got him very recently so soon we are going to change to a heat mat

Hey there! I suggest the Arcadia ShadeDweller UVB 12 hours per day, and the DHP on a dimming thermostat at all times.

Hi! I would set it at 92°F, and expect it to fluctuate between 90° and 92°. It does take a while to heat up, but what setting do you have yours on?

On top of the warm hide, which should be over a piece of slate or tile. I use dimming.
