  • This video is a compilation I made with some of the scenes my friends Davide458Italia, Italiansupercarvideo and I took during the 2018 Motor Legend Festival at Imola Circuit. You can enjoy the numerous classic cars and beauties, that were racing in the Masters Historic Pre-66 Touring Cars and the Gentlemen Pre-66 GT Cars championships, battling each other on track while fighting to in the thin line that exists between the lack and the presence of grip.

*Lovely video as always, Bozzy. It's great to see these things in their natural environment instead of just parked up at a show somewhere.*
As an aside: it always bugs me when people compare eras of motorsport as being harder or easier based on technology or whatever else, like much of the comment section on this video.
Both my father and grandfather were race car drivers (no one you ever heard of), so believe me I understand the inherent difficulties and dangers of the "unassisted" eras of racing (my grandfather drove cars with no front brakes, no seat belts, and no cages), but people seem to love dismissing modern drivers as having it so much easier now compared to the equivalent from 40 years ago, as if they themselves could suit up and qualify on the F1 grid tomorrow.
Except in certain specific cases, for every "easy" thing about modern racing, there is an equally difficult or complex counterpart that drivers from 50 years ago never had to deal with. These guys in this video sliding through the corners... yes, clearly that takes guts and skill to be consistent and fast. But so does being competitive with any car. Imagine going through the same chicane 170% faster in a car that requires millimeter-perfect inputs because it WON'T slide... it will just go exactly where you point it, whether that's the apex or the tire barrier. Now YOU have to be able to keep up with the car, corner after corner, lap after lap, with absolute focus and concentration, physical fitness, and stamina.
If anything, these older cars have a greater "margin of error" built into them because things flex, the tires slide, the cars lean, etc. Sure, you might get yourself into trouble with less grip, but you can also drive your way out of it. Get yourself into trouble in a modern car and chances are it's in the wall before you can have any kind of meaningful reaction.
I love the old stuff as much as the next guy, and my favorite race cars of all time are the 1970's SCCA Trans Am monsters and the Group B rocket ships, but in reality, the biggest difference between now and "the good old days" is that drivers today regularly walk away from crashes that regularly killed or maimed in the past. The rest is nostalgia and selective memory.

I love oversteer!!! It takes a large set of balls to hang the ass out on the turns in such priceless and irreplaceable cars. I recognize a handful of those cars from past Monterey Historics races at Laguna Seca Raceway from the past decades… yet I don’t recall them being flogged so hard through the turns at Laguna Seca! Great video!

Modern GT has it's charm don't be like that. You're saying that like it's easy to go more than twice as fast in a car that will react faster than you can while 4 inches off of the next guys bumper. I LOVE older racing cars, but don't just credit the "electronics" for modern drivers skills.

@@digitalcamaro9708To your point - I'd add that F1's problems are likely rooted in excess of downforce more than electronic driving aids. I bet that's why modern GT, V8 supercars, RallyX and many other series are still door banging fun to watch, even with electronic driving aids in various forms.

Hi Bozzy.🙋 This is a great video, mate! So much action to fill the senses. These old cars (and drivers) really are fun to watch, especially how they skate down the track and through the turns. You know they're letting it all hang out when the doors are flying open.😂 The low track angle you guys videoed from really accentuates how much these cars move around. Your flyby shots are fantastic, too. Sounds like the cars are saying "nnnnnNNNN-Gone!" Thanks to you and the gang on another spectacular performance.👍😎 Have a wonderful weekend, brother!✌

Nice video man, the classics and vintage are the best to me, it was a time when it was truly man and machine. Similar to WW2 with the airplanes. I'm 55 and a little young for tjese cars but they have such a big attraction as compated to the race cars of today which don't do much for me. Do you like Goodwood every year? I love the classic bikes and cars on the timed hill climb, and the classic and vintage races truly up to the riders and drivers.

Fantastic! Lotus Elan, Morgan, Marcos, TVR, Jaguar, E Type, Corvette, Mustang, what's not to like? Although I think there are definitely some ringers in this lot. What are the odds of no less than THREE Daytona Coupes racing here at Imola? Considering they only made 6 (not counting the Willment Coupe) and they're mostly in the USA, I would say very slim. Same goes for the Lightweight E Type. Three in this race but they (genuine ones) are also rarer than hen's teeth. neverthess a great gathering. Shame about the eviscerated noise levels. :(
