That "thingy majigger" is called the ground strap on the plug. And he could very well be correct on his plug to piston contact theory. There was clearance until the engine got plenty of heat in it and the piston swelled. I'm a bit surprised the same type plugs were not reinstalled as came out during the change.

I'm catching up on your videos. Shame about the engine, but GREAT catch on shutting it down. The plug didn't hit the piston, or they ALL would have. I agree with some thing got in there... But my problem with that is, it should have happened immediately on start up. With the heavy mud, it is likely the motor detonated and broke a ring land. Just my two cents.....

You have to line the plugs up to indexed for the right fire !

Looks like the motor swallowed a errant nut or bolt, down the intake. past open intake valve, makes a hell of a mess when something loose is banging around in the cylinder at high rpm.

Hated to see you have engine trouble but hopefully it won't be to expensive to get it fixed from the looks of it you can count yourself lucky.

For SURE it has to go back to JD for a full tear-down and rebuild. The rest is just say-so. Reading the posts from many guys who probably know their stuff, it's clear that something isn't right on that jug. Let's wait and see what JD says after the rebuild.

Valve seat. That's my guess. If it were the sparkplug it would have done that on the first crank.

I'd look close at the valves and see if a retainer dropped out. I have seen it where it looked ok just sitting but removing the rocker you would see the valve sitting oddly with only one retainer in it. Pop the intake valve off that cylinder and check it. That piston will need replaced as it's all out of balance now and those tiny ridges could cause pre-ignition issues at higher rpm as they will heat up and glow and act like a glow plug.
Great job shutting it down quickly Joseph, that could have been ugly and expensive if you hadn't done that.

Rim fire plugs. Most always found in hi po outboard motors. Something got dropped in intake manifold?
