Good to see the Strasburg has learned to align switches.
I've asked it before, and I'll ask again: HOW can anyone see a railroad crossing and think, "Yup. This is where I'm supposed to turn?"
Proof that you don't need a brain to get a driver's license.
I am sure when police show up that question was asked. I would sure like to hear the answers from these supposedly competent drivers.

Maybe they need to put gates across the railroad tracks when no train is coming that says something like, "Do Not Turn, RR Tracks" with lots of yellow reflectors. Then when a train comes, the gates come down on the road and up on the tracks.
They do that in the United Kingdom.
I'd rather see solid steel posts come up out of the ballast......
@@poowg2657 I would worry that if the train hit a metal one that did not retract, you would create some shrapnel, where you could make the crossing gate to disintegrate.

What's the worst that could happen indeed. This always happens where someone goes on tracks and a train starts approaching. When I saw the train on the middle track my heart stopped. Why would you shut off your lights. Did this person even get out. I don't understand people

What is really puzzling about that is that there's an underpass under the tracks just a couple of blocks west of the camera location.
Oh I'll bet he looked... and then never considered what would happen if he tripped or slipped on a rail and fell down right in the train's path...

So Fairport has the same problem of autos doing a 'clunk' on the tracks. First time I saw it there. Terrible when it happens but it obviously can get terribler. What are those flashing red lights behind me, firewagons?

sadly, are getting few and far between.
So I guess, at least on CSX, trains aren't required to stop if an obstruction isn't blocking their track on a multi-track line? I'm sure they at least notified the dispatcher on the radio. I certainly hope nobody was sitting in the car when the intermodal blew by. They may have been automatic headlights that turned off.

OK, another silly question: When there are multiple engines pulling a train, are all of them 'on'? Are some only being pulled? Do they turn some 'on' if they are going uphill, for example. I assume ones in the middle (APUs?) are 'on'. Are the ones at the back 'on' or being pulled?
If there are 2 the front, or 1 the middle or at the end the engine is usually powered on. But these oddball cases of ten in a row (usually BNSF) - I don’t know what they’re doing. Maybe some are just being towed.
@@fraukatze3856 The ones where BNSF is moving a bunch is the result of "Precision" Schedule Railroading. They end up with a bunch of engines sitting in some random yard because they just keep bringing them there and then not needing them so eventually they have to do a power move back to other yards.

I’ve just seen the shortest train I’ve ever seen on this channel...what were they thinking with only one loco towing 3 instead of 100?!!
I’m new to the train world, but can someone explain to me why so many trains have up to 6 or even 8 locomotives? I swear not too long ago trains had a max of 3. Even in my small city of Idaho Falls a UP train passed through with up to 10 locomotive.
railroads transfer locos from one location to another - referred to as a "power move" to suit traffic requirements, or to move units to and from storage or maintenance locations.
@@imacgra1 right, there are also instances where new or rebuilt locomotives are delivered to their customers. Here on BNSF's Thayer Subdivision, it's not uncommon to see newly refurbished Norfolk Southern AC44C6Ms being delivered to the Railroad via BNSF. In most cases, the stacks on these locomotives are still capped to prevent moisture from entering the prime mover. These units are dubbed "boxcared" as they obviously can't function under they're own power because their computers haven't yet been programmed. Once the units arrive in Memphis, Tennessee, they are handed over to NS.

Why would someone turn on the tracks turn thier lights off when the lights from the train is coming and red lights are going off except if it's a suicide attempt

I understand that driver can misinterpret the road, but at least pave some ramps to be able to back the car off the ‘bear-trap’. It ain’t brain surgery, maybe the city and railroad need a lawsuit or counter suit of negligence entrapment, just asking for a friend.

Turning OFF the lights and STAYING IN THE CAR with a train approaching makes them candidates for a Darwin.
