  • Topwater fishing for muskies is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting ways to catch North America’s hardest fighting game fish but, many anglers have questions regarding when and where they should fish topwater.
    In this vlog we begin the topwater discussion by first watching one of my best topwater muskies of the 2019 season and then, we break it down step-by-step to analyze why the TopRaider was such an important factor in the catch.
    After the big catch breakdown I then present my findings on WHEN I like to throw the TopRaider, WHERE it works best and WHY I fish it over other search lures. Lastly, we will discuss a few important modifications that will enable you to get the most out of your TopRaider.

    TopRaider is my favorite topwater. Hard plastic beats wood every time.

      JB (just love that name LOL) yes dude, the teeth cannot sink into the plastic as much! Better hooking percentages!

    Such an awesome fish catch with some really great advice about how and when to throw topwater lures! That fish jumped so high out of the water it was nuts!

      Matt thanks dude! That was the craziest TR strike and jump I've ever recorded. Really glad you enjoyed the segment dude...!

    Dude, Chas this is so cool! My Dad caught a nice tiger on a perch super raider years ago and that fish did the same that yours did on the strike, completely airborn! It ended up being the last musky he would ever catch so it means a lot to me! Great video and awesome strike! 👍🏻🎣👍🏻

      Thanks Nick!! Topwater strikes are just something that you never forget! Awesome that you have such a great memory with your dad! Those are ones we will cherish forever.

      Ray, I am really glad to hear you like the notes in the corner! They take a while to make but if you are enjoying them... I will keep making them. That's all I needed to hear!

    Awesome video Chas! When it comes to leaders, what is your preferred setup, wire vs. fluoro? Lb. test? Leader length?

      @muskymastery I was thinking of the same questions. I'm guessing "No BS" 7 strand 11"? What do you think for a T.R. Chas?

    • @MuskyMastery
      @MuskyMastery  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks John! As Ron mentioned below, I usually go with the traditional "no BS" system which is JBO's
      Premium Single Strand BB Swivel
      #528-02981: 11" - 165lb. Test

      I stopped using fluoro years ago when muskies were putting deep nicks in the leaders... just don't want to hook at 50 pounder and have it bite a fluoro leader off... I'd rather just go with steel and know that it is not going to break.

    Great tutorial! I have a unique modification on one of my TR. saw Joe at a show and asked him to sign the lure I just bought from him. 🎣👍

    “And we got her” was almost a little premature. She really wanted to jump out of the net when you first got her in the net. 😁

      Patrick, that entire fight was just scary LOL... all the way up until she was well into the net. Hooked on the side of the face and she fought so hard... it was one of the all-time great fights and strikes I have captured.

    Where was this video last year?! Lol, I had an almost identical situation in early sept. Only i ended up losing mine because I didn't free spool and play the fish a little like you did. Was easily my PB musky 😕. Love that loon TR! Thanks for the tips!

    • @MuskyMastery
      @MuskyMastery  4 роки тому

      Foose, thanks DUDE! and LOL... wish I had gotten this out for you sooner! It is just super tough when they are hooked like that... no way around it! Free-spooling them helps a lot so I try to look right away to see how they are hooked. TopRaider in baby loon... HOT!

    I watch guys throwing a TR and on the figure eight not going under the water with it when they get a follow. It makes me wonder how many of these fish would have ate it if they did go down with it.

    Caught my biggest musky on a tr. Is there anything you can do when you have that big wake and she turns off half way ? I always keep the bait running the same speed when they wake it , would it hurt to speed it up or slow it down?

      I would go right back with a double 800 Buchertail and BURN it
