My GP offered me a Minera coil when I STARTED HRT as an option alongside the oestrogen gel. It was to either have the Minera coil or to take the progesterone pills.
Same. I live in Belgium and I don’t know how many times I have been pushed to get a coil by my gynaecologist - it is like the magical answers to all the problems. I had it once Many years ago and after 6 months asked to take it out. My friend had to make a scandal to force her gynaecologist to take it out. My doctor told me that it actually costs 30 euros and to place it is actually almost 300 to be payed by a patient . Of course you have to pay for skill and experience yet it seams like a money maker. Plus why would you want “a little plastic thing” attached to your uterus???
What are the options for endometriosis and adenomyosis? I am 49 with these conditions and going through irregular periods, sometimes 45 days to 2 months and then there are long periods. I have had progesterone 10 day course to force withdrawal bleed.
Thanks for the very informative video. I am in the US and will be 47 this year. I don’t think I am experiencing any peri-menopausal symptoms yet. I have had a Paragard (copper IUD) for the last ten years, which will be removed later this year. I’m confused about what to do next in terms of contraception. Would it be beneficial to have the Paragard replaced with a Mirena in preparation for peri-menopause? Thank you!
I have always used the contraceptive (combined) pill from the age of 15. I still also had bleeding in between or when I wasn’t in my forth week. When my husband and I wanted a family I stopped (obviously) with the contraceptive. I thought it would make me feel better but it didn’t. When I got pregnant at 31 everything got worse. Anxiety, depression etc. These and extreme moodswings, nightly sweating and brain fog never got better and still are a part of my life. The Mirena coil didn’t help and I still had bleeding. I have been keeping a diary during my cycles to see in which part of the cycle my symptoms are the worst. The only time I DO feel good are the few days just BEFORE my period. Is that a weird thing? I thinks it’s strange that everything has gotten that extreme from the moment I got pregnant 😢
Sounds very similar to my experience except I’m still on the pill never tried Mirena…yet. I started the pill somewhat young, mostly to manage the hormonal swings that I had every month. It was vicious and debilitating frankly. The pill evened out the up-and-down of my hormones and mostly, I felt much better all the time. However, my periods did stop for the most part. I did stop the pill to get pregnant and have my two children. After my second, I felt awful again. I knew that I was done having kids so I went back on the pill and for the most part it has helped. However, now, perimenopause is knocking on my door and I’m looking into HRT, but you can’t have HRT and be on the pill at the same time. Because HRT is supplementing estrogen and the pill is suppressing the estrogen on purpose. So the two things don’t work together. If you’re young enough, you may consider going back on the pill. There’s so many options and everybody is different. I hope you find an answer! Hormonal swings are awful.
I've always suffered from bad PMS, I was fine on the microgynon 30, put on the mireena coil its misplaced, now the dr wants to put me on the utrogestan, I'm very nervous taking this as I heard bad things about it❤
utrogestan was absolutely so so bad for me it made me feel the worst depression of my life and extremely tired and so many horrible digestive upset pain i got rashes up both legs and massive acne over face so find these bias views saying natural is better is so not true its dangerous to not give full picture it it find for allot of people but for a few like me it was so so terrible just be aware and come off it if you get such bad symptoms
I have been experiencing perimenopause symptoms such as sweating an anxiety attacks at night while on the combination pill. When explaining this to my GP she said “ you can’t have any (peri)menopausal symptoms when on the pill. Is this correct? I’m 52.
Doctors have very little training on menopause and what we go through. Sadly . I had such horrible symptoms I was suicidle and just in a very dark place. I found a great Naturapath who treated my menopause symptoms as well as thyroid support. Within about two months I feel like my old self again. I still have hot flashes but I'm looking at hrt for my remaining symptoms.
If you don't take pill continuously, and you're experiencing these symptoms while on break weeks, then it's probably perimenopause. If not, it's probably something else. Regardless, it should be investigated and treated. You shouldn't have to put up with it.
I am here to say that you absolutely can be having perimenopause symptoms while on the pill because I am! 🙋♀️ definitely find a different doctor. That’s a bunch of gaslighting. I can’t speak for you, but I know that for myself I can tell that I feel different. I can tell that I’m having different physical issues that I did not have before. I have not changed taking the pill, I take it continuously and do not have periods for the most part. however, I’m definitely having symptoms. I just know. Sounds like you do too. Trust your gut and find a doctor that will listen to you. I’m looking into HRT, but from what I understand, I can’t take the pill and HRT at the same time. HRT will supplement estrogen and the pill suppresses estrogen on purpose. So the two do not work together. There’s no easy answers and everyone is different. I hope you find some answers!
This week my GP told me I had to stop HRT to have a Mirena- so I hope this video helps me understand my options more.

Lots of useful information, thank you!

I’ve been wondering if the iud affects weight and sex drive.

Exactly, thyroid issues are often mistaken for perimenopause, I had both
no
