Not afraid to say this guy is the best guitarist alive
Perhaps the most creative and prodigious guitarist alive right now!
Ahem....YES!! :)
He's an amazing talent and I'm a huge fan, but this statement is an odd one when Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, John McLaughlin, John Scofield etc. are all still very much alive.
@@DoglessEndeavor Just my opinion.
👏🏻 an inspiring spirit, an endless source of genuine creativity mixed up with the finest technique and honest playing imho ✌🏻
With Sylvain Luc
All of his undeniable musical talent aside, Julian just strikes me as an incredibly thoughtful and genuine human being. As a guitarist of over 40 years, I appreciate his personal attitude equally to his musicianship. Thanks for setting such a positive tone Julian. You are truly appreciated.
This has become a much more meaningful piece given her recent passing.
RIP Vera Lynn
🙌
I'm really, really impressed with Fender's marketing team, the artists they feature from Julian Lage, Tom Morello to Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and countless others, all innovators. Also embracing guitarists' guitarists like Ariel Posen and Josh Smith. Staying relevant in such an impressive way. Compare that to Gibson's UA-cam channel artists these days and their spokespeople... Anyone know what I mean? Even the visual side is so clean and sleek.
I'm here for the music.
gibs is a trainwreck. whatever talent they have they pour it into the pursuit of pathetic lawsuits
Chill on my boy mark
The final nail in the Gibson coffin for me was when they got Mark Agnesi. A used car salesman, if there ever was one.
Nice little cubby hole he found.
His humility and calmness makes him more charming to watch and listen to. He's just so pure.
I love it... I love watching guitarists who smile, who don't look like they are constipated but loving their instrument!
His control of the instrument is truly amazing. His dynamic range is off the charts. And I like his sound on a blackface amp better than on a tweed.
I have been playing guitar for almost 40 years. Julian just taught me something very important: I have been asleep the entire time. He is a master of the instrument, and we can all aspire to reach his level.
I feel the same way. Since discovering him I’ve made a discipline of feeling as deeply as I can when I play, and it’s opened things up so much creatively…playing feels less like an intellectually punishing puzzle-solving effort and more like pouring my heart out to a loved one.
I could practice 24 hours a day for 628 years, and I'd only be half that good. A true virtuoso. Julian, Bill Frisell, Jim Campilingo . . . all are amazing tele ambassadors.
Thank you so much for checking in with us Julian. You're one of the greatest. Please keep the music going, we need it more than ever in times like these. I miss seeing you play with Margaret. Hope you're all staying safe. Signature Julian Lage Tele someday soon please Fender!
Man I love this guy's playing.
Julian is a master, he can play in so many different environments and always has something amazing to communicate!!
This was so awesome, Julian Lague should do more solo guitar! He’s the Ted Greene of our generation
Have you seen this solo improv? ua-cam.com/video/gIZb7mBfDJA/v-deo.html
Trent China that was great. Thank you!
He is indeed a master, one of my new guitar heroes.
If you love Ted Greene, please check Tim Lerch's playing too, he is amazing.
jorgetenamusic yep, he’s awesome as well I also listen to his stuff thanks!!
But he has a totally different style than Ted, Julian is into three or less notes where Ted prefers a more all in one thing, the whole band. Players like Julian, Frisell, Gilad Hekselman leave a lot more for the listener to imagine and make up, more interactive.
Wow! I have heard about this guy for awhile and decided to check him out. Very impressed. Very fluid player with a great tone. Love it that he uses a telecaster to get all of those beautiful tones. Phenomenal player, going to check out more of his stuff. Seems like a really good soul, too. We need more of that right now that's for sure.
On june 18th, 2020, Vera Lynn passed away at 103 years old. We’ll meet again is my favorite song from her and in this quarantine this song was so importan. Thanks for the great cover.
🙌
Fender you need more artists like Julian and but your backing behind them. He should be the biggest guitarist in the world. It;s amazing what he can do.
Thank you Julian, thank you Fender! That Tele is softly sparking in your hands.. wonderful.
Está muy bueno. ¿Y qué usa allí, flat o roundwoud, 0.10 o 0.11?
A fellow musician friend recommended this video to me near Christmas in recent months, and I'm so glad I watched this! As someone who hadn't found a way among many to actually understand what notes are on which fret positions, I struggled so much with practicing. And around the time I checked out this video, I spent a little time thinking about the guitar, and suddenly it hit me that practicing those single notes on the left hand like in the video would really help me! Recently I've been able to find some melodies I sing on the right fret positions, and I added the right hand. It feels amazing☺️
Last time Johnny Marr and Now Julian Lage!!
Love these Artist Check-Ins series. Thank you Fender!!
He just gets to lost in the moment, it's wonderful to watch! Truly a musician in connection with his instrument.
Man even this guys voice is soothing LOL matches his guitar timbre
You know I was just thinking about that last night. Watching a Bill Frisell interview, his speaking and playing are very similar. There's definitely something to it!
Aw! No-one will want to record an Artist Check-In after this (no disrespect to anyone)! Julian you’re amazing! Cheers to you!
What a Gentlemen! I feel blessed to be able to hear playing like this!!
Knowing what this songs meaning is for us Brits and it's effect it has
on us Brits, in WW11, Vera Lynn is 103 years old right now (2020) and had such
inspiration to those folk back then, Julian you are a maestro and such a pleasure to listen to -- Thank you so much ! Rod in London
I'm a 71 year old Frenchwoman listening in and it brought back so many memories and tears just remembering older British friends ( RIP) who are gone now and who adored her!
One of my favourite guitar players and such a nice chap too
From New Zealand ... all the loves Julian.
Just wonderful. Outstanding playing combined with such taste and musical feel. I am so happy we have him.
I think his perspective on creating art is so right. Just working on a piece of music and then just letting what comes out, come out. So often I'm judging what I'm doing as its happening in real time, and I think it's so important to live moment to moment whatever it is I'm playing, and just be okay with the fact this is where my preparation has lead me. I'm thankful for him as an artist. He's inspiring.
Vera certainly didn't compose this song but, I think she is still with us at 100 yrs plus. Lovely performance.
Wow, this man is plays fabulous.
Bravo Fender for donations and the platform. thanks to J. for breathing positivity and hope thru touchingly unique playing .
What a lovely man. And that run at 2:20-ish. Lord!
They played this song on my grandma’s funeral. Great performance Julien 🌿
Thank you so much for this. I am actually working up to playing solo guitar at a wedding this weekend. It is definitely not something I do on a regular basis and has been a source of anxiety. But working through songs has been cathartic. I’ve trusted the melody knowing that if that comes out than whatever I choose as accompaniment will be fine. Joe Pass I am not, but Jonathan Hesbol I am and your comments are warmly received. Thank you.
Hope the gig went well, Jonathan! Practice makes progress!
I actually love/prefer hearing Julian by himself...nothing to distract from the purity of his playing
Thank you Julian. You are an inspiration. I learn more from watching you for 5 minutes than any other way I learn about music and guitar. Thank you
I've just discovered Julian Lange. What a gift 🙏 The way he lives his music is fantastic! Love these moments when he breathes heavily and when sounds/notes come out from his mouth. Million thanks ❤️
Where do you begin with Julian Lage? Not just one of the most brilliant and original guitarists but also seems like the nicest guy you'll ever meet.
I'm a fan of those tones. Thank you, Lage!
Wonderful piece by a wonderful player. Something that popped in my head while listening ......You do realize this closed the '60's movie Dr. Strangelove as the atomic bombs were exploding on the screen. Thanks Jules....'til we meet again!
Music and book. Yeaah, Julian Lage nailed it! Always love him as a musician and personal.
Thank you Julian, you inspire every time!
Even the intro itself was jaw dropping. I heard no train wrecks or if there was then I wish i played nothing but train wrecks every time. Stay safe Julian.
I loved his reaction when he pulled off the harp harmonic...
It was like :"Nailed it!"😁
Beautiful...
I loved every single second of this. Once again thanks Julian!!!!
Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Remember how she said that “We would meet again some sunny day”? Vera! Vera! What has become of you? Does anybody else in here feel the way I do?
Well that cheered me up no end. +1 Tweed Champ in the background. Sweet.
The first I heard of Julian was when he appeared with Chris Eldridge at a tiny venue near my home. About 40 or 50 people in the audience and up close it was amazing from both of them. The other younger player I know of who is comparable to Julian is Grant Gordy. Anyone who says "there ain't no good music being made these days" needs to set and listen to stuff like this.
That was beautiful. You sound fantastic solo. Love a Fender Telecaster for clean jazzy type sounds and in the hands of a fantastic player. Thanks for a really great video.
Agreed! Telecasters make great jazz guitars! Tim Lerch is another solo jazz player who’s quite dangerous with a Tele!
He's sporting a heavier set of strings. It's a great sound. Has been for 60+ years now.
I believe both Grant Green and Jim Hall played telecasters as well. Such a versatile guitar, so many genres, a beautiful music maker!!
He is, actually, a genius...and such a sweet soul..
Lovely-and particularly encouraging at this difficult time. Thanks, Julian!
Thank you for the wonderful performance, kind, honest words and energy. Great insight
🙌
Thanks Julian. Absolutely beautiful. This made my day so much better.
Very beautiful.Thank you. My favorite electric guitar also. Nice.
The perfect guitarist.
He really loves to play, and you can see it and hear it
I can't imagine a train wreck coming from those fingers. Thanks for sharing this and for your kind and compassionate words.
Incredible musicianship from Julian, as always!
"We'll Meet Again" was written by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles. Vera Lynn sang it.
Magnificent. Thanks for playing and sharing. Take care of yourself. The GREAT MUSIC needs you...
Julian is guitar, to me. Absolutely my favorite living player. He truly embodies what it means to PLAY the instrument.
insanely good.... as usual. I wish he woudl do a solo album of this type of stuff.
Spectacular arrangement and playing
Bravo! And thank you.
So, so beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful and inspiring. Thank you, Julian.
The tone on that guitar is incredible (the playing too obvs)
I have a bad bad attention span but theres something this guy has that doesnt make me skip his talking.
He looks and speaks like the protagonist of a Pixar movie and I love him all the more for that
He really should have a cameo in Soul smh
@@hathaway.1166 oh my god LOL, I want a sequel dedicated to that now
What a phenomenon!
What a treat. Wonderful.
OH MY GOD. AMAZING!!!
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing your love.
Thank you Julian, you always inspire
I absolutely loved this piece thank you, Adrian. And thank you for the wonderful introduction, it made me smile during a worrying time in my life.
More of these Fender! And more Lage, for that matter!
Julian has quite a way with the guitar... so good!!
Vraiment excellent de créativité..de qualité de son..de jeu...J'adore..♥♥
Well , that made me very humble ! The style , note choice , SMOOTH genius playing leaves me feel like , or rather why did I want to play guitar ? Truly Beautiful video !
All good things come in time. But you have to chase it. It won't serve you without showing up.
I see that little champ up there
🤩
That plant doesn't get watered, it feeds off of Julian's playing
It's a rubber plant, I think. Doesn't need too much water - just music!
第一次听Julian Lage的演奏就被吸引了,绝美的演奏~!
Beautiful! This is just what I needed to hear today!
Flawless and beautiful, Thank you Sir
Julian... Hi from Texas! Thanks for posting this video! I have been very impressed with your playing since the first time I heard you some years ago. Great inspiration! And of course "the Telecaster".... what a great guitar. Best Always, jp
This is just absolutely beautiful. Stunning.
Met and jammed with Julian when he was about 10 up in Santa Rosa in a little music store. He was a very sweet, polite, cute, ridiculously talented little boy who could already play well, although he was then into the blues (SRV especially), Santana, Van Morrison, and just getting into jazz and some swing. He was a quick study and amusingly at that point his axe of choice was an Epiphone 335 copy which was almost as big as him vs the Tele he seem to favor today. We played for about 45 minutes and I talked to his dad Mario for a bit too...a great guy who was super dedicated to his sons growth and progress. We both kind of laughed as we each agreed if he wasnt already better than each of us it wouldnt be long. I go his contact info but lost it when my bags got broken into during travel. However, I rediscovered him a few years later and kept an eye and ear on him as he grew, played blues then jazz and recorded with Gary Burton. I have enjoyed all his solo releases playing jazz but also his folk/acoustic/newgrass stuff. Finally saw him about 5 years ago in my hometown and caught up with him a bit. He did not remember me but did remember the little shop, jamming there and laughed when I related how we must have played Moondance about 3 times. He recounted how for some reason he loved that song at one point in his development. He was just as warm, genuine and approachable as he seems when you see him in these videos. He has grown into one of my faves as a player and I hope based on these videos he does do a solo jazz ballad album. His WORLD'S FAIR CD is excellent although it is not really jazz in the purist sense. Scary to think how much better he has probably gotten in 6 months of home bound practicing.
What an amazing player!
Sending love to you and yours Jules, all the way from New Zealand.
He's already a great solo artist in my book.
Literally genius.
Saw him in concert with that little Champ amp up on the shelf a few years ago in Atlanta. Got to talk to him afterwards. Wonderful person! Thanks for the mini-concert Julian. I wish I was as cool as you :)
Yesssss! Julian is so good player!
incredibly inspiring.......no more words......
Wow. Just....wow
Yeah man! And what a great tune. It was always a haunting tune for me, because of Dr. Strangelove. Thank you.
Awesome, man! I love that tune, as well.
Thank you for your kindness!
Simply amazing!!!!
