      @@justinpye9094Maybe. But Gibson never even had it. ;). I prefer ANY Fender style boutique guitar to a real Fender most times. The custom shop does make great guitars BUT a Shabat, Xotic, Melancon, Pensa, Danocaster, Nachocaster, Fujigen/Ibanez, Fernandez, or a custom spec Warmoth can be far better *and cheaper* than the overpriced Fender custom shop, for example.

    I saw Julian Lage live last year in Germany. I'm a metal guy, but during his performance I had constantly chills and I cried some tears of joy. Never experienced music like that before. Thanks, Julian!

      I understand, I am a Tool fan. Came across JL on YT wander one night and was completely blown away. It's life altering playing. The variety in his material is stunning.

    I love how he does his astonishing improv with that sparkle that so many Jazzbos seem to avoid like a hot flame. His tone is spectacular! Long live the Telecaster!

      Guthrie Trapps bread and butter is the neck pickup. Sounds great!

      @@Grahambhuyan I know, right? Tele is famous for the bridge sound. The neck is probably one of the most replaced pickups, but dialed in it can sound great.

    I think any guitarist who feels like they want to really play well should try and see players like julian whenever they get a chance. Seeing and hearing what a master can do gives me energy and passion to keep pushing myself, even if ill never get as good as they are

    In the 60s Jimi gave us never heard before greatness, Julian is doing the same thing.

    I became a tele guy before I know about him, but he confirmed what my hands were telling me…. The Telecaster is a wonderful guitar. Only other guitar I love is my 355.

    We are all in for a huge treat when Julian turns about 46 or so and gets bored with jazz, starts playing country western and rockabilly. Patiently waiting, about ten years away.

    He uses 0.11 D D'ddario on his Telecaster. Is a good gauge to play Jazz or a little bit of rock and roll.

      He uses three basic pedals: Strymon flint, a booster and a overdrive.

    Love Julian. But sometimes it most definitely is the instrument. Any poor kid learning on junk will see leaps in their playing when they can upgrade to an instrument that has good action, intonation
    and sustain et al.

    I have a G&L ASAT Special. It is very much a richer, more 3d tone. But not a Nacho. And no Julian in sight =/

    Player Teles are heavy, mine is over 4.5kg / 10lbs. You feel like your shoulder's going to collapse on itself when playing stood up.

      I’m guessing they’re all different weights. This confirms my suspicion that I’d be better off with a custom made (and a swamp ash, roasted/torrified) body than the new growth, heavy Alder that Fender is using lately.

      @@demesisx They will be different weights, yes, but I expect the Player variants to generally be on the heavier side, more so than the higher end versions, simply because they're less refined during production.
      I would love a Thinline, but I'm a lefty, so practically out of luck. Not interested in overpaying for a custom.

      That’s why I started DIYing my teles from reclaimed pine. Softer woody resonant tone, less weight. Love them!

    Julian likes Fender advertising money.
    Honestly though, Julian Lage could fart on the strings and it would be unmistakable as high art that would be shared far and wide for its genius.

    My two favorite jazz guitar improvisers are Julian Lage and Bill Frisell. I can't figure out whether it's because they both play teles or whether it's just a coincidence.
