I was an insurance fraud investigator for a state and one thing I know is... if you are billing an insurance company for a condition and getting paid by the insurance company for that condition, and you are not treating her for that condition and claiming the patient doesn't have that condition, that is F-R-A-U-D. I sincerely hope the Kowalski's insurance company goes after that hospital. This kind of BS is the reason insurance costs are so high in this country.

Certainly one of the reasons, but I don't think it's the main reason. One of the bigger problems here is that so many parents are falsely accused of abuse and have their parental rights violated, which would naturally piss them off.

Things Smith never did during her "investigation":
    - Never met or examined Maya
    - Never administered the test for malingering
    - Never administered a parental fitness exam
    - Never explained how Beata, following Dr.'s orders, caused Maya's presenting symptoms
    - Never observed Maya & her mother together
    - Never reviewed the 48 hrs of covert video footage of Maya
    - Never gave any weight to the opinions of the 5 CRPS specialists who diagnosed Maya with CRPS & are also mandated reporters, required to report suspected child abuse, who never reported such concerns

@QOGS and the only reason it was eventually stopped was because they were a family of some financial means already and the mom killed herself 😢 never forget there are doctors with this power who do such minimal looks at families and make accusations of abuse in every state and every decent size city in America 😢 the system has WAY too much power and having people who's jobs and financial security depends upon taking children will mean we will never see this end 😢 we have given over a large part of our juvenile justice system and children services to FOR PROFIT PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS 😢 even of they are considered non-profit like many hospitals that doesn't mean they don't profit from these things 😢

The documentary showed many families this woman destroyed but no one could sue like the Kowalskis. They signed waivers of liability in hopes of getting their kids back & not having finances to take this hospital on. 😮 That’s why this case is so important, the amount of punitive damages will make the hospital change their ways.

You do understand you are falling for a red herring, right? No, of course not.
She was required to gather MEDICAL evidence. The Kowolski family had FIVE lawyers for their dependency court case and they also presented their witnesses, including all of their quack doctors to the dependency court. It was up to the dependency judge, not Sally Smith to make a final determination of whether he thought HER investigation was credible or whether he thought the quacks were credible. That dependency hearing is NOT what this trial is about. That was a separate case and we know how that turned out, the judge did not believe the quacks. It is not one side of a court case to present evidence of the other side. They BOTH present their own side. Tell me, are you made at the quacks because they did not also present Sally Smith's side? Of course not. She had one opinion, they had another. And BOTH sides presented their side to the dependency court. That is how it works. People are obviously so emotionally wrapped up in Maya that you fall for every red herring argument Mr Anderson comes up with.
The Kowolski family subsequently NEVER EVER EVER took Maya back to the quacks, so they can lie all they want for in the hopes of a big payday from the hospital. But WHY if Maya had CRPS and they believed in the quacks so much have then NEVER EVER taken her back for more of her ketamine. Which by the way is a highly abused drug because it's a psychedelic. Maya was addicted, which is why she came into the hospital screaming for her drugs. She was screaming for ketamine the way someone who is addicted screams for their drugs. She was victimized by her mother, who turned her into a drug addicted 10 year old. That ppor kid will never get over the psychological damage done to her by her own mother, and now her own father, suing everybody because his wife took her life because ultimately, she would likely have been facing a criminal investigation.

I agree - this woman is grotesquely power-drunk, indifferent to her obvious lack of knowledge re this disease (and apparently many others), and I suspect (imho) is about saving the hospitals etc money by accusing parents of “abuse” and unloading these children onto the state. She’s acting like she’s there for a coffee break instead of a case that destroyed this family’s life - she’s so smug and arrogant and indifferent and lacks any grace or dignity and keeps smirking at the jury and then blathers now and then “forgetting” if she was part of some decision (in which she clearly played a part). Grotesque.

Anyone who’s had ideations, or attempts understand. The woman had her child taken, was being called abusive, and it felt like if she stayed in the picture they’d never get Maya back. When you’re in that mind frame you’re not thinking everyone is going to be sad, you’re thinking everyone will be better off. @jlob5296 I'd be interested to see what a psych report on this woman would reveal. Her incessant need to remove so many children from their parents and loved ones is concerning to me. I think someone mentioned the number of children she removed from loved ones is 117! I'm a mother, so I'd never want to see children being left with abusive parents, etc, but judging by this woman's actions in Mia's case, I'm concerned that many other families were ripped apart unnecessarily by her, too!
I wonder what her childhood was like? I genuinely believe that any person who finds it so easy to lie and rip families apart like she did, must either have some deep seated issues, or has some kind of god complex.

As a parent in Florida, this case terrifies me. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that parents can bring their child to the ER, with a valid prescription and diagnosis from a legitimate physician, and just cause they disagree/don't like it, they can say, "this child is abused." They can quite literally strip the parents of their rights within moments over... an opinion. That is so scary. I genuinely think this happened simply because some of the hospital staff didn't like Beata. &That is SOOO unacceptable and unprofessional. I'm very happy that they won, it's the only justice they will ever be able to get for their Mom/Wife. I think criminal action should be taken honestly! It's just disgusting behavior. You can't rip children from their parents on a whim, and push them past their breaking point with no evidence of abuse. Beata took her own life because she knew her little girl was suffering in silence in a strangers custody, and wanted her outta there and she felt that was the only way to get her out, and honestly... it was. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kowalskis, and I hope that they get some sense of validation out of this. Beata seemed like a great Mother and Nurse, the way she documented everything. She fought tooth and nail for her daughter until the very end. I'm so sorry this happened.

It ripped my heart out every time they took him from me and sent him back to those drug addicted parents. In that time I would have to take him to meet for supervised visits and he just cry uncontrollably when he saw them. They finally severed the ties after this little boy tested positive for meth because he was absorbing it through his skin. These parents didn’t show up for visits and didn’t follow the instructions to get their child back. It was a nightmare.

We really need some major changes to child protection services. They really need to listen to those close to that child and family and really give those interviews more weight then they do. A child screaming when they know they have to go with their abuser should be heavily weighed as well. So many families beg for the safety of a child from their abuser and the workers just won’t listen.

Her agency, Suncoast, do the medical child abuse investigations for DCF as needed. Therefore, her job and her salary depend on DCF investigating med child abuse. If Smith let the natural order of things go, there would not have been child abuse case. DCF had already been called twice in 2 days by JHACH. DCF Screened OUT the calls because the ketamine was prescribed by doctors. Sally wanted to get paid, so she told Dr. Dees what to say to get a case opened. Third time was a charm. Suncoast then was asked to get involved and Sally officially began her "investigation!" Total conflict of interest!
