So pleased that Melanie’s tutorials are still available. Melanie was a wonderful teacher and a truly inspirational lady. It is lovely that her legacy lives on and continues to inspire. Miss you so much. Love to all her family and friends . ❤
RIP Melanie 🙏🏻 you have truly been the one to show me how to quilt, craft, inspire me, and make me a better person. You will truly be missed by not only me but your thousands of friends and subscribers
Rest in eternal peace and light Melanie💞✨🙏🏼 Thank you for guiding me through so many craft projects that brought me and many friends, family and customers so much joy. Thinking about you and your family during this very difficult time. Fly high beautiful girl❤️❤️❤️
Gone but not forgotten, you are forever loved and appreciated! I now watch the videos with my five year old granddaughter, with heartfelt feelings for your family. So Beautiful, Precious Melanie, thank you! Peace and Prayers to your family.
Used this tutorial to make a bag to hold my daughters colored pencils today. I’m so glad to still have your videos to help with my projects. It makes me sad knowing you are gone, but I’m hoping that it continues to benefit your family in some way. ❤️
I made these pouches when I was in grad school '19 to keep things organized. I made more as gifts for graduating seniors in our church in 2020. Today, I came on to make more for the college bound kids and found out about Melanie.😢 I'm so sad, watched her memorial. Thanks for keeping these videos up. The pouches are beloved by me and those I gave them too. Thank you for your legacy of faith, sweetness and tutorials that were clear, thorough, and easy to follow. Sending lots of love to the family and her maker community.❤❤❤
I am new learning about Melanie. Wanted to make a pencil pouch and she guided me thru her easy tutorial. Struggling watching her such an inspirational soul. But will still learn from her. Thank you for keeping her up on the web to learn from
I am just reading the comments, very sad to learn she has passed. I am terrified of zippers and she is just very good at explaining and showing how to do it and not be intimidated. A truly easy to follow along and not get the fear of the zipper. Her tabs for the zipper are very helpful. Now to honor her great video I am going to make the pencil case.
Even from the great beyond, she is still teaching! I have struggled with moving that zipper tab while sewing that seam..watching her do it, so easy..I will struggle no more! Rest in peace, Melanie!
I've made like 10 of these using other tutorials and they did not come out very nice ( I'm a beginner). ....but watching your tutorial was a game changer!! the zipper tabs and actually leaving the opening in the lining vs outer fabric for inverting it was something no one else was doing. THANKS A MILLION!!
What wonderful person you were helping everyone that loves to sew. Sharing your wonderful knowledge about craft work always smiling and a JOY to watch. Rest in Beautiful Peace Melanie 💓💓💓🌺🌺🌺🙏🙏I will always continue to watch your UA-cam Channel for inspiration God Bless You Always ❤❤❤
Melanie made this so clear and easy to follow. I've made some and my daughters each made one, too. Melanie continues to help multiple generations to love sewing!
Im not a zipper person, but just got braved and started a week ago. searching for the easiest to do and yours was it! I followed step by step and wow it came out just as you showed ! love it. i used horse fabric also and it looks great! thanks for sharing your knowledge !😊
11:22 just rewatched your tutorial in order to sew some pencil cases for buddy bag foundation .cannot believe I am looking at a beautiful, breathing, inspiring lady who is no longer in our living world . RIP Melanie.
Excellent video. You provided just enough detail (where to place stitches, close ups of sewing, lining things up etc.) so that I had all the tips I needed to have my first one come out pretty nice. I'm giving it to a friend for Christmas and I'll definitely be making more of these! Thank you!!!
Best pencil pouch tutorial I've seen so far on youtube. It's all about the little details. Finishing the ends of the zippers with fabric, hiding all the seam allowances, etc. Excellent job! You have my sub!
Hi Melanie, love love love all your videos, I am a new sewer and have been crocheting for years learned to embroider when I was very young, but even if I am aware of what you are teaching I love to watch it, I always learn something!!! The sewing ones are the ones I learn the most, you are a great teacher and explain things very well, this video I absolutely love how close, the camera is you can really see what you are doing. Thank you so much for sharing and thank you for all you do!!!
A friend of mine works on her own (from home) on special projects (towels, tablecloths, cushions...) for boutique hotels, restaurants, stores. She's happy, found her way, and she's as neat and talented as you are!
Cudos for teaching how to hide the seams. So many bag tutorials leave the seam allowances showing. Even if they are finished they are so much nicer to be inside between the layers. Well done. Also, loved the way your are sewing tabs onto the ends of the zippers. Great job.
I like the paintbrush fabric, but love watching the video and am in the process of sewing this bag, I have added a quilting to it, this bag is going to be for my friction pen marking pens and mechanical pencils for my sewing cabinet. Thanks so much for making it!!!
Awesome tut! Loved the details on the zipper tabs and using fewer steps to finish both the lining and outside. Glad I watched this because I would have been trying to figure out that last part forever if I had tried to figure that out by myself.
Thank you!! I Just finished two basic zippered pouches and 2 box pouches. That is what everyone is getting for Christmas this year. These would work great as make up brush pouches as well!!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have followed your instructions and have now made 2 bags. I wanted to learn from my mistakes and to beat my time! I think your work is beautiful, I'm going to keep practising the zipper bag until I feel really confident, ready to move onto the next project :) xxx
OMg thank you so much I wanted a green and white patterned pencil case but couldn't find one. I went to the craft store today and got everything I needed and made one. Keep up the good work
Hey!! All of your tutorials are awesome!! I watched all your crochet one. Some projects I'm definitely gonna be making!! Just started watching your sewing tutorials. Been crocheting for 15yrs. Not much help needed there, just more projects to do. I have only been sewing for maybe 2or 3 yrs total. Never done anything more complicated than just straight stitching. Lots of help needed. Love these pencil pouches. Can't wait to give them a try with my new zipper foot!! Love your channel!! Keep Calm and Stitch On!!
You do zipper tabs like I do, except I cover up the metal tab stop at the end. I think it looks nicer and more finished, and since you've sewn over the zipper to attach it, you don't really need the metal stop anymore. 😊 Very clear tutorial. Great job!
Great tutorial! I love the zipper tabs! Makes a little extra room in the pouch and provides an opportunity for more creativity. I just did one today and it’s way better than any others I’ve made.
Great tutorial, I'm a total newbie but i have learned so much from your channel, made a few zipper pouches and can't wait to try this one !!! Love the horse print !
Great tutorial!! I like the look of the tabs on the zipper however when I tried sewing in my zipper with tabs into my little zipper pouch I guess I did something wrong because when popping out the corners at the end they just didnt turn out right :( I am still a beginner at sewing and wish I could find a tutorial that showed up close exactly how to sew over them. This is the best detailed and closest one I have found thanks for posting :)
Great tutorial!!! I used a 10 inch zipper and cut my pieces 11 inches by 5 inches (if anyone is using a bigger zip) Great instructions, easy to follow and very pleasant to listen to, thanks for a short, and informative tutorial! I liked the red pencil case by the way................................................
I think this is a super great tutorial!! I will definitely be making this for the beginning of school. I love how this video makes sense, hopefully I will be able to do it almost as good as you
Danelle Jacobs happy stitching! Don't be discouraged if things don't turn out perfect for your first try... sometimes you need that practice round and the next one will be awesome!
Great tutorial. I would like topstitching a little further away from the zipper, say 1/4" instead of right next to the zipper seam. Will that in any way affect the construction when sewing the face fabrics and the lining fabrics together around the outside edges of the bag? Thanks!
yllek82 it's a greater than symbol... so He is greater than i is what says. I wasn't sure what it was at first too! It's a North Shore Hawaii based company ;)
