  • The Astrophytum seedlings are starting to get crowded at 44 weeks old.... I hope they can hold out for just 2 more months. That's right, only two episodes to go before we hit one year of following this Cactus Seed Soil Battle. It's probably pretty clear which soil won the battle... and we've pretty much known since germination. I have also decided that there will be a giveaway with the 52 week series finale which I talk about in this video. Join me as we go through the seedlings pot-by-pot and check on growth progress.

You can leave them for 2 more months, but I don't think you will have any more data to change or add to your conclusions. If anything you may confuse the interpretation by going too long in pots with soils that are doing well. It was a great experiment and thank you for the vidoes! I loved watching them and look forward to any new ones.

I'm glad you enjoyed this one, Mike! We just have to hold out for 2 more months.... I'll be shipping the pots out whole (for non-CA) for the giveaway. Just 2 more months of crowding 😆

I will miss this series. Always looked forward to it. I enjoy and love all of your videos but as I started growing my astrophytum from seed, I kinda used these videos for reference and watched them multiple times.

@@lealee13569 this is so awesome to read, the fact that you're using these update videos as a reference point for your own growing experience. I used to scour UA-cam for seedling progress videos to see how I was doing. It is so cool to know that I am also contributing reference material now! 🙏🙏🙏💚💚💚

    Very cool!
I wish you could do a experiment like this for 100% DIY soil (with peat moss and perlite, coco-peat...) so that those who don't have access to Miracle-Gro and other ready-made soils can also benefit from your experience.

    • @cookiescacti

@@ti-nu4ou one good thing is that the commercial soils list their ingredients on the bag and online so you can see the components and get a feel for how it translates to homemade mixes. The world of soil mixes is vast and wide, not only homemade mixes but commercial as well - there are so many more brands that weren't included here. Highly recommend running some experiments of your own mixes!

50/50 pumice/unigrow is my sweet spot for astrophytum and it’s funny u almost hit it! 75/25 is my adult mix too and yeah just needs a bit more organic. I also add a little osmocote… great videos!!! -@bakersuccs
