I got stronger calves by squatting. First time using the standing calf raise machine at the gym I could only do 130 pounds for 5 reps. At that time I was squatting 135 for 5 reps. I trained consistently on the standing calf raises until I could do 280 pounds for 5 reps while my squat increased to 225 pounds for 3 reps and then I stopped directly training calves. Now I can squat 290 pounds and easily do calf raises with the entire 400 pound stack on the standing calf raise machine. Increased my calf raise strength 120 pounds just from squatting.

Idk if you’ll even read this but for better calve muscle growth don’t go from mid -> up, instead let your heels basically go to the bottom as if you were doing a full motion from bottom to all the way to the top but stop at the middle so go from bottom to mid instead

@@Replosioned hey thanks for asking, I'm much better now finished physio a few months back. I'm walking around again now i still get occasional pain in the ankle from breaking the heel.
I haven't been able to get back to my construction job I'm searching for a new career but it's a struggle. I'm 30 and find myself having to start from scratch maybe in an office environment which I'm not used to at all, but it's all I can do physically. i struggle with walking on uneven ground now since the accident

@Samual_33 Hey, glad to hear you're alive and kicking. Some would give up. However, you chose to rise up and pick yourself back up. That's very commendable and I honor that!
Personally speaking, I asked because I literally just got sent home from work due to achilles tendonitis and I decided to whip myself back in shape. It's very motivating to hear someone else able to figure things out for their own health. I wish you the best of luck with your future career paths. Have you considered a job in communications or counseling? Those are very nice careers with little physical activity.

@@Replosioned thank you brother means a lot, it hasn't been easy the time spent in isolation not being able to walk for months has caused a lot of issues I'm still trying to resolve.
I got past the main depression part and still remain optimistic most days. It's just another hurdle to overcome we can all do it. I built resilience due to my childhood it has stood me in good stead just hard to appreciate it for myself sometimes, always good to hear it from someone else stuff like that helps to keep me going.
I have thought about counselling before I should look into it properly great advice thank you again.
Sorry to hear about your tendinitis heel issues are no joke very intricate injuries. I hope it gets better soon for you and doesn't prevent you doing anything I'm glad I could help to motivate

Been running for 3 weeks. Clocked about 80 miles. Felt a slight pull so I stopped for 7 days and went hunting. Went back to it and warmed up and stretched and a quarter mile into it my calf felt like it ripped/ popped and almost gave out over it. So here I am pissed off and now back in recovery mode.

Same happened to me during 2 months training for my first half marathon which thankfully I survived. I was 55 at the time (10 years ago). Afterwards my calfs continially ripped/popped alternately due to the extra load I was putting on one side protecting the injured side. Eventually I sought the help of a PT instructor who subjected me to the most excruciating pain imaginable rolling my calfs. They were like trying to stir marbles in treacle. After a lot of work and weekly PT sessions we got them sorted, and although I've since run many half marathons and survived 3 marathons, my calfs need continual attention and care. In additiona to doing strengthening excerising as in this video, I strongly recommend using a massager before and after running. I've found so-called deep muscle "sports massagers" useless as they're not powerful enough to get deep into the muscle. You can buy a set a of massage attachments that fit a DIY jigsaw which has real power. They were recommended to me by a sports physio:

Hey bro can you help me out here?
So I did 2 sets of 30 reps of both the first 2 methods 2 days ago, and since I my calf muscles really hurt, it's hard for me to walk or even stand up straight. I did everything as was done in the video. Is this common or not ? should I continue the exercises?

Try stretching your calves on your window seal. Isometric exercise.
