Written with lead actor Nick Skardarasy, the film draws inspiration from their respective childhoods. Ropp, having grown up as the child of a cancer patient, and Skardarasy, the son of a doctor who loved Halloween. However, it was only when Skardarasy shared the story of his father, and how he would have to potentially deliver bad news in full Halloween costume that it reminded Ropp of his own time “wandering around doctor’s offices (…) finding the absurdity, the comedy, and the weirdness that still existed underneath the most serious of situations”. It was this contrast that inspired the pair to write Kodar, with Ropp revealing that his goal with the short was to “navigate the extremely fine line between tragedy and comedy”. - S/W Curator, Céline Roustan

The balance between the two leads is thoughtfully done. Very easy to over-index on the doctor's storyline, but Maddie is given the space and material to process her character's confusion and grief compellingly
Maddie has really excelled as an actor
when maddie is performing be it’s acting or dance. you always feel something you always have your eyes SET OF HER always she sparkles ✨

This was cool. Love the story and it was really well executed. Seems apparent to me that Maddie Ziegler has a bright future as an actress. Hope to see her in more stuff. The talent is there. Though, as is true with all talent, it just needs to be honed with experience. The charisma is also there and it, of course, doesn’t hurt that she’s absolutely gorgeous to boot. Also, from what I’ve seen of her, she just seems like a sweetheart and someone people would probably want to work with. All the makings of a perennial leading lady if you ask me.

omfg i knew shed become an amazing actress 🥹 so glad the days have come first kinda with the fallout (working with jenna definitely inspired her to dig deep and i love it!) but honestly it really started with fitting in/ bloody hell - her first real lead and it made me cry 🙌🏼 and now this?! He made me so emotional
I enjoyed the actor who played the doctor very much! You could feel his panic and anxiety and his feelings of inadequacy. Maddie was good and had some great moments, she just needs to let herself live in the moment when she acts a little more. Something is holding her back just a bit, but there's so much potential there. I really felt her emotions in the pauses which is hard to do. She's so close to a major breakthrough with acting

I think she's afraid to let go all the way and really feel the scary emotions. She had some great moments especially in the pauses. Her face nails it, she just needs to let herself feel all the emotions in the moment as her character were if they were a real person. I really feel like she has so much potential but she hasn't quite found it yet. She's good, but when she lets herself just live a character she could be great.

It's like watching two kids making up lines as they go along.....take some acting lessons......it may help.
