Electric cars are being more mainstream then ever before. With insane horsepower numbers, growing electric range and futuristic looks, EVs will only continue to grow more popular by the day.
Automations recent update added the ability to convert our automation cars to real electric cars in BeamNG.drive. So I chose to build 3 versions. One depressing FWD version. One mid spec AWD soccer mom version. Lastly and coolestly I build a 700HP AWD Super Crossover.
Turns Out 4500lb EVs handle better then I thought.

the camera placement fixture works now :)
ICE engines like launch control because higher rpm = higher power. EVs get max torque at 0RPM.
Unfortunately ABS doesn't take regen braking into consideration :/ so it just locks up on the driven wheels

I’ve been playing around with the ev update and what I’ve found is that you can increase the top speed by increasing the top speed in the transmission settings. This would give you very little acceleration at low speed. However you can set it to 4x4 and then you’ll have 4lo and 4hi. Then you can have high acceleration at low speeds with 4lo and a high top speed with 4hi

The motors in these BeamNG drive electric cars really has a low rev range, a lot of the high-performance EVs rev to 18-20k rpm, plus have power much further into the rev range. These seem to slow down almost immediately as they get above 120 km/h.
It almost feels like they took the motor from an EV with around 60-120 kW and just took all the stats of it and just slapped a higher number on it for the higher-power cars.
I am actually on both sides on the electric car debate. For a daily driver, I like them a lot. They are quiet, easy and comfortable to drive. On the other side however, they indeed lack soul and fun imo. So for a fun car I like something that makes noise and where I have to shift through gears. It feels like an extension of my body in some way instead of just an object to bring me from a to b
YES THIS! my family has a chevy bolt, its a great daily, decent range, comfortable etc. I am totally down with ev dailys, but a old gas shitbox project is a good pairing

Go into the engine file and reduce the Regen braking to nearly nothing. 75-100 is a good setting. The brakes are locking because Regen doesn't care about the ABS.
Commented before the video was completely over... But yeah, I spent a day testing the Electric motors and tweaking.
Or he could reduce the normal breaking by 25-50%
Huh, that's really weird, that doesn't happen in real life. You think that is a bug?
@@swecreations it's a bug. Most evs with regen brakes lower the normal brake power based on Regen (some can even do one pedal driving)

if you're having trouble making good looking cars, take inspiration from real life cars or just try experimenting with different shapes and designs

A new engine for my Renault Zoe EV can be picked up for $500 :)
700hp on a 4k lb crossover should be way faster, like in the mid-low 10s 1/4 mi. I wonder what the torque curve and max RPM looks like, modern EVs have a steady flat torque until like 5k RPM then it reaches max hp and decline slowly until ~18k motor RPM. Maybe the motor is underperforming. That or a simple final drive ratio tune would improve things a lot.
Definitely should be! One big issue I think is that the evs don't rev as high as modern evs do, only revving to 10-11k rpm instead. Meaning gearing has to be either low top speed or low acceleration.
I will have another ev video out today with a slightly tweaked version!

If the breaks are locking up and skiding tires, it's the tires not the breaks... It's mean the breaks are bigger than the car likes

@@TwinTurBrosthat doesn’t work for me at all. I have to build a car with a very powerful engine then export to beam. I then have to switch the fuel tank and engine to electric in beam.

Could you do a video on making cars with a 100HP 1000ft/lb engine, vs one with a 100 ft/lb 1000HP engine and see how they behave? This would be a very educational demonstration of the differences between torque, and horsepower, and how they behave

Let me list a few things:
1. Their cars are unreliable
2. Their cars have terrible build quality
3. Their cars are overly expensive
4. Their cars are electric
5. Their CEO supports giving Crimea to Russia
I don't necessarily hate Tesla, but there are many reason why I wouldn't buy one
how are the cars unreliable? The build quality is good? Have you ever been in one? Their overly expensive because they are trying to fix things and they are gradually lowering prices. For example, early cars were very exclusive and over time their prices came down. Tesla was the first major electric car company so they solve the problems of card first.
@@aviationist1018 Like I said, I won't buy one, but I'm almost certain it would be a really unreliable car in the conditions I live in. The place where I live has bumpy roads and the temperature can be as low as -30°C, so there's no way the car could hold its charge at that kind of conditions. On top of that the bumpy roads would probably cause the car to lose its bumpers because that's apparently a problem with Teslas.
So that's why I'm indefinitely sticking with ICE cars. And if I ever get an electric car, it will be from one of the already established manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen or Mercedes instead of Tesla.
