  • THIS Model tests out 2 Bright and Vivid paint schemes for Leviathan Tyranids AND highlights an Alternate Warlord to add unique twist on a vanilla Leviathan army!
    The GSP (GeneStealer Patriarch) is an GREAT model to Speedpaint for a couple reasons!
    It's unique form let's you apply two different Tyranid paint schemes - this guy can more easily be swapped into different armies.
    It's a Character unit that must be the Warlord - he can be swapped for the Winged Tyranid Prime that comes with the Leviathan set, offering a unique twist to that army!
    I had a great time Speedpainting him and am eager to share my project!
    Probably, you will find some tips or tricks useful!
    Note - In this video I try something different - No Intro. The movies starts with the "B-Roll" and we are immediately into Prep Prime Paint. Did you like this, or no? Please leave Comments, thanks!
    Enjoy!

    From the Codex Lexicanum:
    The Patriarch is always the oldest purestrain of the cult. As the first Genestealer of the group, all other members are psychically linked through it; this leads it to attain a level of intelligence much higher than that of other Genestealers. Over time, it can become a very powerful psyker; it grows in size and strength, gaining a bloated and immobile appearance. A Patriarch whose cult is on the verge of taking over a world becomes a psychic beacon, attracting Tyranids to the planet; as the Tyranids approach it will fall under the power of the Tyranid Hive Mind, and begin leading the cult in attacks on vulnerable positions to facilitate the inevitable invasion. It is assumed that it knows nothing of its role in the Tyranid invasion, and once the Tyranids are successful, it and the brood are also consumed by the Hive Fleet.
    Twice the height of a Space Marine and with strength enough to slice an Ogryn into bloody chunks, this creature is a leering nightmare of tooth and claw. In a flurry of whipping limbs and diamond-hard talons the Patriarch can tear through platoons of heavily armoured warriors and even light vehicles. Yet it is the hypnotic spell with which it binds its chosen hosts that mark it out as perhaps the most dangerous Tyranid yet encountered by the Imperium. The uncanny powers of the Patriarch make it a fearsome puppet master, a threat so pervasive it has a xenocode threat designation unto itself. By spreading the Genestealer Curse, this creature is capable of destroying not just warriors and war machines, but entire worlds.[1]
    Patriarchs are known to live for hundreds of years, and unless killed, are practically immortal. They are seen by the cult as a "father" figure, and should their destruction come to pass, the cult would be thrown into disarray. Eventually, however, the next oldest purestrain genestealer would assume the role of Patriarch. The relationship between a Patriarch and a Broodlord (if there is any) is unknown.

    That was so fast you should have been ticketed! Nice tips! I like the colors and the model and how you applied them but I think I prefer more serious colors. I have so many paints already but seeing this makes me think I need more...😮

    • @marksminis
      @marksminis  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes most of what I see out there is more serious colors, but then how do you get Bright And Vivid? That kind of eliminates earth tones for example. I was thinking of a more natural 'fire' type motif but I have so many of those, also this thing is not very fire-related.
      So I figured, sprue it, I will go with Wild Space Alien colors, I have seen a few examples out there, especially on those big Mind Bug monsters 😄
      The challenge is to get decent results from single coat slapchop other than just speed! 🤩 I'm always hunting for tricks!

    Be careful tho , the broodlord is on a 75 x 42mm base while the patriarch is on a 50mm so technically you can't use it on a tyranid game
    Beside from that, great video !

      Oh carp! I wasn’t told there were base size limitations in this army list makeup! I’ll have to have words with Herrick Games about this! Arrrg! 🤪
      Well that’s part of this Journey I’m on, there’s bound to be trip ups!
      Thanks again for this feedback it’s really appreciated!
      Hmm I will have to do a little retraction/ correction in the next video. Don’t want to sweep that under the rug! 🫣

    Woo! Fast and fun! The music was good but a little loud in spots. Keep it up! ❤❤❤

      Thanks love! It's hard to tell when the music is too loud or too soft - I think I need an equipment upgrade, but not sure what or how?

      @@marksminis some advice: for thumbnails, maybe remove the single colored background and change it to a shot of a finished mini. But you can feel free to do whatever you want, your channel! 🤘❤️‍🔥

      @@jugushes LoL I am always stressing on thumbnails! Rumor has it that creators will be allowed to post multiple thumbnails, and will use which ever works the best, that day cannot come soon enough! 😆
      Yes, looking back my thumbnails seem to be a little loud. I am trying to find the sweet spot between standing out, and being overlooked.

    Not sure if washing the sprue was necessary.

    • @marksminis
      @marksminis  11 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching! Yes I've been advised to always wash the sprue, and water did turn a bit gray. Since I prime with and airbrushed acrylic I thought it would be a good idea. Probably not necessary with rattle-can primers.

    • @_Gondor44_
      @_Gondor44_ 11 місяців тому +2

      @@marksminis well that makes more sense. I’ve always used Krylon rattle can/ Vallejo airbrush primer and haven’t had issues with paint sticking.

      You don't need to wash gw sprues. Only resin needs to be washed. But do whatever you want with your hobby

      @@halogu117 Hi thanks for watching! Since I prime with airbrush I was told washing is a good idea, but I’ve never prepped regular GW sprues before so on the next one I will skip this step, thanks!

    Thank you for sharing. How does the SpeedPaint Medium better the Dry Brushing? I assume you mix the paint with the Medium and then Dry Brush.

    • @marksminis
      @marksminis  11 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! Yes I have a fun way to do dry brushing, I dip the brush into Speedpaint medium, then tap into the desired color. The speed paint medium slows drying time, and improves the control of the dry brushing. It let you start lighter, and build up color more slowly.
      Also, those makeup brushes from Amazon are amazing! They are so soft, and come in a bunch of different useful shapes! The other dry brushes I see out there, seem to be two course.
