Just in case anyone thinks to comment about this: I am aware that The Next Episode was not on The Chronic, but I still wanted to make the joke anyway. :)
Thanks for watching everyone!
rip nate dogg
Also The Chronic was released on 1992, not 1993
Please do the Ultramagnetic MCs & Kool Keith. He was one of the first abstract rappers and MF Dooms favourite rapper
Thank you for such a great video essay! As a big Tribe fan you were on point with all your facts about the band. My favourite Tribe album is Midnight Marauders. I was 12 years old and wanted my mom to buy Enter The Wu but she wouldn't because of the parental advisory sticker. So she bought me Midnight Marauders instead. I loved every minute of it and played that cd over and over again. I know most of the songs by heart. Low End Theory is a classic too but Midnight was my introduction. If you disagree, don't put poison in my mash potatoes, lol.
stupid question but the theme heard in the prologue and albums cover transitions i swear i've heard of it what's it called?
Ye: "Anything that I ever did wrong...blame Tip and Phife cuz yall raised me."
Tip and Phife: "Shhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttt."
I was thinking the same thing 😂
This is like if Hitler blamed the painters he emulated while studying art for what he did lmao
We Got It From Here is hands down the best comeback album from any artist
Daughters You Wont Get What You Want has entered the chat
One of the Best Yet by Gang Starr was crazy too, in the same respect... word up
part of the holy trinity of them to be sure, along with Daughters, don't know who would take the 3rd slot though
@@fireballninja01 Random Access Memories is the third that comes to mind for me
@@sachinpandya2518 Random Access Memories doesn't feel like a comeback album though
RIP Phife Dawg and J Dilla
dilla dawg for life
Amen phife dizzle I’ll see u up there too, rip until then, but for u- the alarm clock is about to be waking u up. For you it’s NOW!
The Love Movement ironically doesn’t get enough love. It’s a really nice album that people often forget about!
YO PAT I CANT SAY THIS IN THE GC BUT NEW BLACK MIDI HOOOOLY FUCK
Dilla did one of the most genius sampling ever on that album.
ATCQ is a Top 3 rap group of all time
Agreed. I like it a ton.
It's actually my favorite
@@seancascone hi Sean
My uncle was very broken up over Phife's death.
Back when his main gig was DJing in the Bay Area in the late 90's early 00s he did some work in radio and got to interview Phife in 2003. He's really glad he got to have that personal interaction with him.
phife flow was wild, he was so ahead like Busta rhymes in flow a delivery
Has your uncle listened to forever?
A Tribe Called Quest made so much good music that you can make a 24 minute video on their history and not even mention Check The Rhime, probably their biggest and most beloved song
I’m a simple man, I see the notification for new MicTheSnare and I scream
Tribe is my favorite hip hop group of all time
my 2nd fav, would prob put DG ahead of them
@@pinata3399 Drain Gang? W 😳
@@TokyoBalletReprise lol i love drain gang but i meant death grips
@@pinata3399 Ik, I was joking.
Wu tang Clan will always be number 1 to me , but I love tribe , they my 2nd favourite
i must say, asking if quest were a boy band is one that ive heard before, but asking if theyre hyperpop blew my frickin mind
You should do a De La Soul deep dive. You'll probably have to resort to UA-cam for most of the albums given their label (and sample clearance) situations making a majority of their stuff unavailable on streaming save for their most recent two.
But De La definitely needs more support and praise. Real scummy how Tommy Boy's been doing them with regards to giving them control of their material.
I was just about to say this! I would love a deep dive on De La, especially with how much material they have and how strong they’re still going to this day.
Great idea. By the way, they did an amazing thing a few years ago, they put out all their albums to download... for FREE ! Who else would do that ?
@@Avonbarksdaleable I remember that for sure, I had opted in to receive the email with the discography. They did that because even back then they were still having the issues they're currently having with getting their back catalog officially released, so just out of love for the fans and because they're awesome dudes, they said fuck it have it all for free (though technically it was all their albums from 3 Feet High to Stakes Is High plus a greatest hits compilation. The Grind Date wasn't included).
I wish I had donated to the kickstarter for "And the Anonymous Nobody", though.
PLEASE do De La. It's a shame they get looked over due to the lack of availability on streaming (hopefully we'll get it soon since the group announced they're working on it last summer), they were (and still are) held in the same esteem as Tribe back then!
And now the timing would be excellent! The classic albums are finally coming to streaming services on 3/3/23!
After watching this, and the Grammys video, it makes me wish so badly that you'd have more ladies in your deep discog dive series. It's my favorite thing you do, and I'd love to know more about some of the most iconic female artists
This!
@@vacuumblink2300 Thanks my friend, I hope he sees this!
if you check the description on the new ddd video there is a link to a voting page, theres a few women on there but they may just not get many votes at the moment, i'm sure that'll change tho!
@@okaytomm9925 Yea I know, I'm just trying to say I wish there was more women on it, or maybe the gender variation become more equal. It'd even be cool if for at least one month vote there was ONLY women (maybe for women's history month) so, by the very least, it can add more women to DDD over time.
he did one on kate bush
I wore my Low End Theory sweatshirt today because it just felt like the right day to wear it, and now I see this on my UA-cam page. I can’t tell how to feel
Low end theory is a hip hop classic, the songs on that album is timeless.
I didn’t know about Georgie Porgie up until now, and I decided to look up the full lyrics. I thought he was exaggerating. Nope, it legitimately is just extremely blatant homophobia all throughout.
Plus on Oh My God, Phife's line "the anti-batty boy" gets censored out on the album and remix.
@@dmaster5556 It's uncensored on the "UK Flavour Remix'
kinda funny that they had to beg the label not to include it.
@@jacobarmstrong5308 No. Rather, the label made them redo the song without the anti-gay lyrics.
@@jacobarmstrong5308 quite the opposite, actually
I place 'Midnight Marauders' & 'The Low End Theory' alongside the great albums from all genres and eras of music. They still hold up, and will continue to hold up.
Electric Relaxation is the soundtrack of my life. Bury me with that ish.
I listened to Midnight Marauders for the first time a couple years back in my first day of college. I never realized it until now that i'm a few weeks from graduation that it was the soundtrack to my college years. This album will forever have a special place in my heart.
You missed the chance to say The Love Movement was released the same day as Aquemini & Black Star
Remember being at Barnes of noble (out of all places) looking at all the cds when I was 9 years old. The low end theory caught my eye and a convinced my mom to get it for me. Listen to that cd every day for a long and saved up all my money to get midnight marauders. Those two albums defined my childhood in a nutshell and tribe will always hit different for me. Thay shit was something special
the whole native tongues crew were something else man, I'm glad my dad's as much of a music nerd as I am or I wouldn't have been blessed with any of these bangers
As a huge Tribe fan I would highly suggest listening to their albums in their release order. That way you can appreciate their journey which really puts their last album in perspective
(sees new Mic the Snare video)
Can I click it?
*Yes I can.*
underrated
Let’s NOT forget that Tribe’s debut album, “People’s Instinctive Travels & The Path of Rhythm” was the 1st ‘Five Mic” album from The Source.
🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤 🙏🏾⚡️
we got it from here is low key their best record
I think as time goes on, ppl will begin to accept this
Yes
@@IsmailTube999 the beat on "whateva will be" alone proves that shit ahah
Completely agree, glad there's other people saying it
The earlier stuff will always be more iconic because of the influence, but we got it from here is pure brilliance all the way through
That album is incredible
I’m so glad someone a few years ago showed me the song “Can I Kick It?”. Ever since then, Tribe has been in my playlist.
Quest dissed MC Hammer on Check the Rhime, years before Beats, Rhymes, and Life. MC Hammer fired back in 1994, and then I think that might be the inspiration for "Phony Rappers"
tbh both of the disses were shit weakest beef but ig thats not what tribe is about
@@whyargon Agreed
@@IsaacPrinTheNerd The track "Keeping It Moving' on Beats, Rhymes & Life was the response to MC Hammer
@@KardiFan2000 And I think before that came out, MC Hammer went broke and became a preacher.
@@IsaacPrinTheNerd Hammer was a preacher first, then a rapper, then a preacher again. On his first record he went by the name "MC Hammer -The HolyGhost Boy"
Just wanted to say it wasn’t the velvet underground being sampled but rather Lou Reeds transformer
Also you gotta do Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground on a DDD
Some classic rock would make sense given out of the 10 last DDDs 7-8 are hip hop
Or expand that to Nico and John Cale as well, granted that would be a lot to make a single video on.
@@evanvandenbrul5500 honestly, lou reed alone would be about 40 min, if you include velvet the video is about an hour. if you include nico and cale it might just be a bit much
@@evanvandenbrul5500 I have listened to nicos solo work and it isn’t great
Can’t speak for john cale tho
When that bass hits your ear in the beginning of Low End Theory... You knew that shit was gonna pop off...
I would really enjoy an episode on king gizzard and the lizard wizard. I saw it on the DDDD and I really want to see it soon.
Getting a notif for a new DDD episode at an unexpected time is like being handed a christmas present out of nowhere
By the way, “solid wall of sound” actually features Elton John in the last leg (not a sample)
I audibly gasped with joy when this popped up on my home page. Hey video, can I kick it? Yes I can.
Movin Backwords has to be my fav song from Tribe. Jarobi snapped and Anderson Paak gave what is easily my fav vocal performance from him ever. It’s gorgeous
The Deep Discog Dive is always great. Because it eather introduces me to music I haven't heard of or gives me a new perspective on I have already listened to.
But in the other hand, every month that it isn't about The Killers is one I die inside a little.
I’m from mexico I found ATCQ looking for a choreography, the guy used “electric relaxation” as a introduction, I heard it and I loved it, I looked for it, and I continued listening more and more, the whole album, more albums and that was it, I really love atcq the best hip
Hop group
Also mexican. I was listening to low end theory and it ended so it started playing random music then electric relaxation came on and i put down everything and listened to that album
@@LiteralApe Electric Relaxation is a masterpiece. I think its the perfect song.
Butter is insane. I mean it's pretty self-explanatory. Dis Generation also felt like a huge passing of the torch moment in the rap game as well
I am a total clown and still know "Butter" word for word at 51 years old. Phife diggy.
You nailed in less thant 25 minutes the Quintessence of A Tribe Called Quest : excellent job !
Oh, and also : Ali Shaheed Muhammad kept working with Adrian Younge on the "Jazz Is Dead" series, where they make music along well or lesser known great musicians (Roy Ayers, Brian Jackson, Azymuth, Tony Allen, Lonnie Linston-Smith....) : volume 19 will be released soon, it's definitely worth a check !
We got it from here is legit a top 5 album ever for me, absolutely amazing work
We got it from here has a special place in my heart, it is what got me into Tribe and I felt the closest with all of my friends at the time….makes me cry listening to it just thinking about it being a tribute to Phife
Midnight marauders is one of my favorite albums. High school took such a different turn once I discovered their music fr.
We Got It From Here might have one of the most stacked lineups of guests on any hip-hop record ever.
my beautiful dark twisted fantasy only one that tops it off the top of my head (feature wise)
@@undun7356 yeah true
this was the perfect thing to see coming back from school
Why is “artists who’ve made tracks entirely revolving around gay-bashing” such a reoccurring theme in this video series
what's the list so far?
Plsss, I wasn't surprised
@@blarghblargh so far MF DOOM and A.T.C.Q
Hope theyre the only ones ahahah
@@lucalamanna-vg2bz yeah those are the two I know about. A theme recurring twice didn't seem like "a recurring theme" to me. Need at least 3 points IMO for a generalization to start sticking

Tyler the Creator to an extent.
I’m about to be 42 and play low end or midnight marauders at least once a week..my fave hip hop group ever..they are the best to ever do it..I’m so glad I got to work for them and seen them perform w phife ..my inner 12 year old was so happy I almost cried 🙏🏼🙏🏼
The greatest rap group ever.
The greatest hip hop artists ever
never heard an album by them, but new ddd is always appreciated
please listen to midnight marauders
The group and their music changed my life ! Can’t explain of how much i love this group honestly
"The name Jay Dee might sound familiar"
"Oh shit."
"It was Jay Dilla"
"oh ok"
‘Lyrics To Go’ is the most perfectly produced hip hop track.
I love your work, Mic the Snare!!! Thank you for making videos and sharing them here.
Thank you 4 your service Mic. This is awesome
Thanks for doing this. The love movement is underrated/ironically doesn’t get enough love
we got it from here MASTERPIEICE omg...
It is unreal how good We Got It From Here...Thank You 4 You Service is, the chemistry sounded like it never left
A Tribe Called Quest genuinely means so much to me. Thank you for making this video.
WOOOO QUEEEENS!!!!
I've been waiting most of the week to get time to sit and watch this! 🍿😋
I always come out of these videos with such a heightened appreciation of music, even with artists I never would've gotten into otherwise!
I've always wanted to get into Tribe Called Quest, I'm checking it out now based on your recommendations. Just started Low End Theory. Thanks man!
Love the effort you put into these videos! Thanks man
I’ve only listened to the low end theory and midnight marauders but now I wanna check out their other records! Great video as always btw
We got it from here... Thank you 4 your service is my all time favorite album by a significant amount. Sooooooooo damn perfect
Thank you for making this man... it made my heart so full. ❤️
Fantastic video. Midnight Marauders and Low End Theory are some of my absolute favorite hip hop albums
YESSSS I’ve been waiting for this one!
I'm just getting into Tribe called quest for the first time and I'm so glad I saw this. Perfect timing for me, I appreciate it.
Great video, amazing group that revolutionised hiphop!
Mic has literally never made me nearly this excited for an artist I’ve already listened to
My favorite group of all time, I've listened to every main album, and even a lot of the more hidden gems, every album is amazing, even the ones other people don't like as much. Good vid!
So happy there’s another deep discog dive
i’m so happy i saw this/youtube recommended this to me. thank you!! really! thank you!
Things I learned from this video: A Tribe Called Quest is the most influential
hyperpop act in music history
phenomenal work, as always.
Congrats on 100k man
The first time I heard ATCQ was Oh My God, and that beat was marked in my mind, it was aerial, and so I discovered more and more of the Midnight Marauders, this Tribe engages and captures well the power they have. Listen "Mind Power"
You deserve a million subs. Keep doing what you're doing
These videos are so fucking good. Love you Mic.
yess perfect timing! my we got it from here vinyl is on the way
Once again, excellent video, sir!
Complements on getting the world’s jazziest cryptid here, too!
Huge work. Great video. Thank you.
Wonderful!
Tribe are the reason I got into Hip Hop, my dad played Check the Rhime for me when I was 14 and I was hooked man. It also gave me and my dad something to have in common.
Stumbled upon this now im in the rabbit hole and subscribed. Thanks a lot. But great video
Still awesome! Ty so much Mike :)
loving the series, keep it up
Great Work as usual!!!!
Thanks Mic
speaking of fire accident, RZA studio got flooded back in the end of 90s and a LOT of beats and songs were lost, and most of em are for wu tang solo project.
U a mind reader? Cos that was exactly what I was thinking when he said that
i swear midnight marauders and we got it from here, thank you 4 your service are the best tribe albums
Being early is great. Mic the snare is the best!
Yay! (Exciting/dreading the comments for your Chemtrails review)
Once again the algorithm exposes me to another amazing channel
Very cool, thanks
Excellent show 👏 👏 👏
I grew up with Quest, and to hear someone else talk about We Got It From Here and feel the same way I feel about it means so much.
Agreed. SOLID WALLS OF SOUND is my ish.
The first time I heard Bonita Applebum bumping out the trunk of a Jeep in the early 90’s in Jersey had me hooked. Went and got the tape. Midnight Marauders was my high school soundtrack. Also the Scenario remix had me hunting trying to figure out how to find it…heater 🧨🌡🔥
Yesss I loooove your videos sm
Hell yeah, the group that made me fall in love with jazz rap
brilliant video
Appreciate the Saxsquatch shoutout
My fav Hiphop/Rap group ever.
