At 66 and retired, I am new to the world of guns. My wife and I got our CCW permits in Iowa, even though not needed for this state, but we wanted to responsible owners. Also CCW permit and filling out the 4473 form is all is needed to buy a gun the same day. Anyway, did lots of research and tried different semiautomatic pistols and liked the S & W M & P 22 magnum because of the ease of the slide, fits our hands great and 30 round doubled stack magazines. This pistol might not have be out at the time of this video was made but it is pretty good gun. Later bought a used HK P2000 9 mm. The slide is harder to rack but my wife likes it for some reason. So working on make the 22 magnum my EDC. Got a holster but didn’t get the right size gun belt so when I get it I will EDC. Oh I also like the fireball that comes out of the barrel, lol.
This is great. I just talked to my wife about buying her 74yr old mother a 22 magnum revolver. Can’t wait for the western issue!! I just got an 1895 High Wall 45-70 Sharps rifle this week! Good stuff! Keep making these vids! Thanks Gene Eldon Missouri
I have two Heritage Arms revolvers that came with two cylinders, one for .22 long and shorts, and one for .22 Magnum. I love these guns. I live in the country so I have one loaded with .22 long shot shells for snakes and whatnot and I keep the other loaded with the Hornady "Critical Defense 22 WMR" rounds (from your video) and it sits on my nightstand next to the bed. These guns are very accurate and I have never had any misfires or any other issues with either gun. I also own a couple of rifles chambered in .22 but have yet to get one for .22 Mag (hopefully soon).
Thanks for your post and comments regarding the .22 Magnum. I have a .22 Mag bolt action rifle. My most interesting .22 Magnum firearm is the PMR30. It shipped with 2, 30-round magazines.
Great video! I have a second year production Marlin model, 57M, 22 magnum lever gun. It is a sweet rifle with a short stroke, something like 18° lever stroke, I believe. Years ago, I found a local grocery store/super mart type store that was clearing out their 22 magnum ammo. Who knows why? They had both CCI Maxi mag and Winchester Dyna points I believe. They had a list price or a sell price of six dollars per 50. The clearance price was three dollars per 50. Like I said, this was sometime ago, probably 2012 to 2013, so not all that long ago, really. At that time I bought the three or four boxes that they had and happily went home. The next week while out grocery shopping I went to a different location and bought their two or three boxes. This went on for several weeks to a few months, and after hitting all the local stores in the area, I had amassed approximately 1400 rounds of 22 magnum at three dollars a box. Needless to say, I still have quite a bit of fun with that Marlin model 57M!
I own just about every caliber handgun out there, the 22 WMR is a beast in an 8 shot revolver, and I have yet to have a misfire out of the modern ammo.
22MAG is my favorite Cal. I have the utmost faith in it. Have two Marlin Mod.57MS tack drivers, one NAA, and a Walther WMP coming, who knows what else latter.
The NAA 22 magnum is accurate at more than just an arms length..and its blow holes through a coconut husk! It sounds like a 380 when it goes off and blows a flame 2' out of barrel so its got a little bark too! Its pretty vicious for a non gun!
My EDC for years has been a LCR in 38 and a NAA Black Widow in 22WMR as a backup pocket gun. I have since switched to the Walther WMP and NAA Black Widow combo. Granted the WMP is significantly larger than the LCR but being the size I am is fairly easy to conceal and have 31 rds on tap of 22WMR and the Black Widow just in case is nice. Being able place 4 rounds, accurately with about 60% the muzzle energy of a 9mm, on target before most can put 2 shots from a 9mm is far more attractive to me from a self defense standpoint. Now with the new defense ammo like Speer Gold Dot and Federal Punch in 22WMR it makes it a very viable choice. Also seeing how well the new defense ammo performs from a 2.5-3 inch barrel in a revolver I can see a compact 3.5" auto in 22WMR becoming a very popular firearm if it were to be released.
I have the new Walther WMP semi and a Smith & Wesson 648 6 inch revolver in .22 WMR. Both are reliable and fun to shoot. I would never want to be on the business-end of a .22 mag.
I’ve loved the .22mag for over 50 years in my High Standard Double-nine. (And why is no one noticing that this “new” gun is a direct copy) Years ago shooting jackrabbits with it, my .22 mag was slapping them down while my buddies .38 special just annoyed them.
It's basically .22LR energy at 125 yards out. You'd have to walk 125 yards with your Ruger 10/22 and shoot something point blank when you arrived, to have the same effect as someone 125yards away popping it with the 22WMR.
I've been thinking about picking up a Diamondback Sidekick for giggles. I like that it resembles the old SAA, but has a swing out cylinder for reloading. It comes standard with both .22 LR and .22 Magnum interchangeable cylinders. Also, is the new Old West issue the same as last year's Old West volume #88?
At my age of 78, I switched from my G48 9mm for EDC to a 22LR Gun for my EDC! I no longer have the strength in my hands and my fingers are somewhat numb, so I had to make some adjustments to shooting and carry methods, which have worked out fine for my overall shooting needs! I did a lot of shooting of Revolvers years ago and I was trained shooting Revolvers many years ago as a Armed Security Officer and I also was a member of SAS and shot in their Shooting Competitions! I now carry a Kel-Tec P17 for my EDC, With that 16 round magazine in my right front pocket and I feel very confident with this gun and I shoot it better than my Glock 48! I now own 4 22LR guns and One 22 /22 magnum Diamondback Sidekick Revolver, which I use for fun at the range! This is my very first 22 magnum gun and I will be looking at other options for a future purchase in this 22 Magnum Platform!
"remember you just have to stop what's going on that's all you have to do" Oh for the love of God please preach this to the heavens and get more of your fellows to do the same. For the average John Q. Public citizen, one stop shot with blood gore and bodies in the street, no. One shot stop, the bad guy stops what he's doing yes. As for the .22 WRM. I spend a lot of time banging about the woods and live there also. We got Black Bears, Coyotes, Bobcats, Fisher cats, Lynx, crazy moose, and assorted two legged varmints. Danced with all of them in one form or another. Carried a single six for 40 plus years, 22lr for tin cans, dirt clods, pine cones, and fun, 22WMR for the rest. Never felt under gunned.
I’ve always thought of the .22 WMR as basically a rifle caliber or at the very least a 6+ inch barreled revolver. But, at no time have I ever underestimated its capability even when you compare it to the Ruger 5.7X28mm.
I have a Ruger Single Six with a 22 WMR cylinder. Once a year a neighbor mows my property and hauls away the hay for his livestock, and once that is done I cut it short with a lawn tractor. The field rodents get really excited about that and run every which way, and I've found that 22 magnum shot shells are just the ticket. Thinning their ranks is necessary because they really tear up the ground causing all sorts of hazards for people, animals, and machinery.
Had a Ruger Single-Six back in the 70's, but got on hard times and had to sell it. When I was able, about 20 years ago, I bought another one. I certainly WOULD NOT stand downrange and let someone shoot at me with a .22 Magnum. It's one of the most under-rated cartridges out there.
I have been checking out this video for several days hoping that Brent would get his voice back. that must have been painful doing half the show with your vocal cords disabled. Welcome back, and thanks for another great video!!
Few years back I was in a local gun shop and spotted a.NAA .22 magnum WASP .. a shorter barrel one with the 22 lr interchangeable cylinder included.. I quickly snapped it up and it is my latest addition to my collection as well as an occasional backup.. and perhaps something I would carry if I could not carry something larger.. it would make a great underwear gun walking around the house in my BVDs IWB holster clipped to my BVD waistband 😂...
That little NAA .22wmr reminds me of the guy in Louisville during the BLM protests. m.ua-cam.com/video/gkpOyzlC3OM/v-deo.html Truth is in most civilian confrontations caliber does not matter as much as just having a gun. I might not be comfortable carrying a 22 caliber NAA revolver but that does not mean it wont do the job most of the time.
i have been shooting since methuselah was a toddler. in all those years, i have shied away from .22 magnum. the bang for your buck, just is not there. even with today's high cost of components, i can reload and shoot just about any centerfire pistol ammo, and some rifle, cheaper than i can buy .22 magnum. a reloaded .357 magnum, out of a lever gun, can take the smile off a squirrel's face just a well as a .22 magnum, with far less investment. agreed, a .22 magnum has more pep, than a .22 LR, but not enough to justify the cost difference. hate to be a naysayer and disagree, but i am an opinionated old cuss.
It's good for ethically taking deer...laws don't care about ethics just control, people use them for hunting before your baby boomers days. When my grandfather that was a WW2 and Korean war veteran lived free as an American, if men like him we're alive today the Jan 6 insurrection would have been a legitimate insurrection and those type of men would have won they trained some of us too I was lucky enough to be raised by that generation because my baby boomer parents were trash like is typically the case with that generation.
Brent is here, 100%! Thanks guys. As I said earlier, my favorite .22WMR firearm is a Rock Island 1911XT which shoots CCI Maxi-Mags at 1500 fps. What I would like is an AR-15 in the same caliber. Edit - I found an upper through Bear Creek Arms. Oh boy!
It's double the energy of a .22lr from a rifle length barrel. That said, the .22LR put in the exact right place has toppled many beasts, up to and including brown bear (just don't try that).
For someone who is recoil sensitive.. perhaps a newbie or someone who has arthritis.. 8 shot revolver in 22 magnum is quite formidable for self-defense.. and since there's very little recoil they're more apt to practice with it more often...

I just acquired a Walther WMP chambered in 22 mag and I mounted a dot on it, man this gun is fun at the range 👍
I have mosberg 22 mag a row barrel it’s deadly

If only. Now they cost $0.25 per pull of the trigger.
I know this Crank is 8 months old but I just got me an AMT Automag II in 22 magnum. Just for you Brent - AMT

Have an old Marlin bolt action I inherited from my father in law that shoots so accurate.

At bad breath range, and aimed well, .22 Mag would be devastating.

I Cary a Taurus 942,in fact I own 2 one mat black 2" and a 3" ss. Love them. Also Marlin 883 stainless bolt action. Great critter gun.
Everyday carry naa mini gun four inch five shot appendix carry carries like a pocket knife fireballs like a dragon...
I'm comfortable...
