    I purchased it today and I think this is an awesome device. I used to have disconnection issues with the modem provided by my ISP even if it's just right in front of me. The deco m5 solved this problem. I can now play without any delays or disconnections.

      Question, If I connect the 2nd Deco while it's in the same room as the primary one and after the 2nd one is connected, Can i unplug it and take it upstairs and downstairs and connect it there? Will the two deco still be paired or will it lose connection and I'll have to connect them again when it's upstairs/downstairs.

    Just got a Deco M5 system, and reading the info from TP Support, Viewing other Vids, and scanning help Forums I was dreading setting this up (my tech knowledge is limited) until i came across your video. You knocked in in to a tin hat, plain and simple, and easy to follow. I feel more confident in giving this ago myself. So thank you and keep up the good work.

    Gread tutorial. I have set up several of these systems so just letting those know, if you have devices such as computers/printers connected to the LAN ports on your current Modem/Router and want to keep your existing DHCP server from your current router assigning the same IP range so all devices 'talk' on the network - make sure you swap over to Access Point mode after setting up. Keeping it in Router mode means the Deco will assign new IP addresses on the new WiFi system to that of the current modem/router you already have and they won't 'talk' to each other.

    • @HelpCloud
      @HelpCloud  3 роки тому

      Correct! Like stated in the video, when you do swap over to Access point mode, you do lose the parental control features.

    Hello.I'm glad that there is someone here with the lights on. I bought an M5 and followed instructions. M5 connected to a port on my TP Link router. Your instructions are perfect and its running.
    Download speed test to my Android phone on wifi was 150mbps.....to my wife's Gateway laptop in another room with an M5 pod nearby was 100mbps download. We have Xfinity 1Gb internet. Wired computers get 900mbps download and 40mbps Upload. I'll take a W A G that if the M5 was connected to a MODEM that the real hi speed happens. I need a router for the setups of static addresses and ports I need opened to connect to servers over the interwebs...and ports opened for Xbox happiness...thanks

    Thanks so much for input on these devices. I was starting the process of ordering Deco M5s for my situation. I contacted TP Link to have them give me input and information to confirm my application and selection.
    This is my situation. I have a installation needing 3 devices. The base and a 2nd Deco some 30 ft apart in the main house (only 1 floor) and a 3rd Deco in my external shop which ii is about 100ft from the house. I currently use a wifi extender to provide wifi in the shop.
    After much discussion with TP Link support they would not recommend their product more than 50 ft from the main house. I told them I was testing this configuration with another supplier's equipment and it was connecting. Thus I don't see how to proceed with TP Link. I really wanted to use the Deco M5 devices.
    My question is do you see my configuration as not applicable for setting up 3 Deco M5s because of the 100ft distance of the third Deco ? Also I plan to setup my mesh in access point mode as I want to keep my modem/router configuration in service.
    Your input si greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • @BudsSmartHome

    It seems the videos I watched on the M5 have all setup the first pod with an existing router. I have an older Linksys 2500 router that I am reluctant to use as I think it may be a bottle neck for IPS speed. I believe I have the option to leave the old router out of the equation and connect the first pod directly to my modem. Is that accurate? The 1st Pod will then operate as my primary router?
    Because I have a need to plug in four ethernet cables at the location of my first pod I plan on purchasing the "TP-Link 3-packDeco M5 Mesh with 5 port Switch". So I assume that I would connect the 1st Pod to the Modem and then use the second port on the 1st Pod to attach the 5 port Switch. Is that also correct?

    Looks like I'm a little late to the party but I just purchased a mesh deco Dx20 and I'm a little stuck on whether I need to remove my current router/modem? I'm in Australia and have an NBN box connected and then a wifi hub into that. I'm trying to read about bridging but unsure if I even need to do that. Or....should I call an expert to come in and set this up. I definitely want to make use of the parental controls etc.

    Two problems I may have with this Deco M5 is range (not to be mistaken with coverage) my garden shelter (Den) is 25m from my nearest building. That would require a 490m2^ coverage device but it is outside so what is the range outside?
    Second point, would my Host router Virgin HUB 3 WiFi still be used in the network?
    Many thanks for video very comprehensive.

    • @HelpCloud

      25m could be doable if you have minimal surface interference. I would place them as close as you can to each-other. You can still use your Host router.

    Great video, two questions I set up 2 Deco M5 units today. I was surprised that while the Deco app does have a password, that it did not require a password for my router. Could not someone whom has a Deco app on their phone tap into my Deco system with their phone? Next question regards Alexa, they say works with Alexa. Does Alexa receive its wi-fi signal from the Deco, do you have to tell Alexa to find the Deco in order for her to receive the wi-fi signal from the Deco? Thanks

    • @HelpCloud
      @HelpCloud  2 роки тому

      You created an account when setting up the deco. It attaches your devices to that account. So someone won't be able to walk in and access your devices unless you gave them your login. For Alexa, you will need to add the skill and link the 2 together.

    Thanks for the great review. One question about network setup - if I connect the main deco to the ROUTER and there are other devices ( like printer and another PC that runs media server) connected via LAN to the router, will I have 1 SINGLE network if I configure deco to run in Access Point mode? Will I have access to the wired connected printer from wirelessly connected device ? Are they both in the same network ?

    • @HelpCloud
      @HelpCloud  3 роки тому

      You will need to run AP mode, otherwise the deco will assign out IPs and the printer/pcs won't be able to "talk" with each other.

    Question: I have roughly 40 devices (Computer, phone, TVs, smart lights and assistants) connected to my current modem/router, give or take. Would this cause any problems like dropped internet because too many things are connected? I saw on the Amazon page they can have about 100 devices attached. Very informative video, if this can still work with all the smart devices and everything else I have, then I am getting this.

    Deco M9 with tri-band or deco x20 with wifi 6. We have one device capable of wifi 6 everything else is 5. Wondering about speed/throughput/ capability while handling smart TVs and three xboxs? We are running the AX 1500 right now and while the 5ghz is awesome, the 2.4 is terrible and really bad range. I have to utilize and extended just 20 feet from the router to get a better reception. 1700 sq ft single story cheaper home too. Nothing drastic. Our ac1200 broadcasted way better but was slower within range.
    Just wondering what you’d do, M9 or deco with wifi6? Thanks and great video!

Your speed may vary with certain wall types, and general interference from other wireless networks from neighbors etc. With a 500 down and 10 up, I would bet you would get full speeds or close to it.
