PSO is my personal favorite game of all time, legitimately put in 5k+ hours, which no other game ever came close to. The only reason I dropped the game was because my memory card got corrupted and had to be formatted, meaning I lost everything. It was my darkest day of gaming history...

Thanks for the nostalgia. I spent a few hundred hours on SCHTHACK's server back in mid 2000s. The server even has crossplay between DC, PC, Xbox and GC. It is a project of love and passion and I met some really cool people in that time.
So cool, wish I was able to play it too back in the day, but both the adapter and broadband were unaccessible for me in that time, still it brings a lot of nostalgia just to think about that time.
That's crazy, I never knew they did crossplay. Would've probably got a friend involved in that if I knew that. These days he definitelt doesn't have the time lol

Yeah, but the problem I've had on there is that everyone is like level 90 or whatever and so its no fun because they just absolutely destroy all the opposition while you run behind them and share the XP. This was the game right here that was my first MMO and made me fall in love with the WoW after. Simple times on the dreamcast, waiting for my older bro to hop off, so I could get some time in. Miss those
I put hours and hours and hours into PSO on Gamecube back in the day, and couldn't even play online! I did some split-screen co-op with friends here and there, but it was mostly solo. The game feels pretty lonely without other players populating the space, but I still loved it. Just getting to see this game again and hear some of that fantastic soundtrack really brought me back.
I just sold my broadband adapter that was in mint condition on eBay a little over a month ago. Sold it for 90 dollars. Used to play phantasy star online 2 when I was like 10 years in in 2003-2004. Even had an adapter to plug in a ps/2 keyboard so I was able to communicate with other players.
I played that on Dreamcast and, Oh boy! Do I remember some of the questionable custom emotes that were made back in the day, with the limited assets the game gave us. Fun times!
I got the GameCube broadband adapter back in the day for free at Fry's electronics. It was because of a pricing error that they had in the store. Someone had listed the sale price of $20 as the regular price in store and next to that they listed the discount as $20 off. They ended up giving it to me for free and taking down the signage.
Similiar story, I got one at ToysRus for $20 which was the listed price of the dial up Modem and they didn't have the broadband item price up, clerk had no idea and just punched in $20.
I remember the Schthack servers back in the day. I had easily over a thousand hours on the GC version (all offline) but years later I did play Blue Burst on PC on the Schthack servers for a while. Classic game.
Lol this is pretty awesome. Love seeing old tech still working thanks to community support, which is why BC and game preservation is so important. Of the companies, I think only MS gets that sadly.
you mean MS whos not putting games on discs and tries to kill physical media with the game pass (and with that they kill all the possible preservation)... yeah sure if you think so :D
Gamecube was the last great Nintendo system in my eyes when Nintendo still wanted to be within arm grab of power compared to its competition... I miss those days so much but the Switch is still great
I remember ordering that broadband adapter just so I could play PSO online, I waited like 3 weeks for it to arrive and it never showed up. I remember being so upset because I saved up my money for it for a long time. I went door to door wondering if my neighbors received it by mistake. Turns out the neighbor across the street received it by accident and they just decided to never return it to the original owner. I didn't even care I was so fucking happy I almost exploded. I went home and played all night until I was too sleepy to keep my eyes open. Best game ever, I spent countless hours playing this game, until one sad day my memory card became corrupted and I decided to lend the game to my friend and moved on to other games.
I had a keyboard for the gamecube when I was playing this online back in the day. Sega ran the servers like shit so I am happy to see that SCHTHACK is still up and about. I use to play on the PSO BB server for PC a few years back before moving to Ultima. Amazing to see players still playing to this day on the GC. Super cool. I poured hundreds and hundreds of hours into this game.
Woooooow Phantasy Star Online 😆 brings back memories of a ridiculous amount of time playing and grinding and omg I didn't realize how slow the characters run. The early 2000's was an amazing time for gaming with friends and family.

Honestly this kinda makes me want to get a GCN, LAN adapter and PS2O despite my loathing of turn based games. I just love the fact that there's even 10 people still playing it after over 20 years. Maybe PC is the future so we can experience everything from everyone and not worry about their egos... I'm saying this as someone who's always console gamed since getting the Genesis in '92 and getting gifted a Tandy with DOS in 1996. Subsequently I haven't owned a computer since 2007.
Hey Spawn do you know you can access PSO with your Wii vía wifi, there are plenty of videos, I’ve been playing the peak players has been 40 (4 per session) a day and it’s been a blast
The Mario Kart LAN thing blew my mind. Lmao. And funnily enough... Years ago, TheRunawayGuys did an entire set of videos with THAT setup specifically. Lmao. It was just hilarious all around. Sadly, I never experienced that myself -we never owned the adaptor or knew anyone who did-
My friend and I played this game a lot on the original xbox. Great experience. the base PSo2 basically took that game on put it on steroids. Truly amazing gameplay experience. Unfortunately, PSO2 ngs is just terrible.
I remember playing that PSO server on the dreamcast a few years ago. iirc you had to have a landline phone, hook the phone line up to your dreamcast, but the phone line had to be powered so you had to either splice in a battery or get another device to power the phone line (which I just happened to have a power strip that randomly had a phone line in and out that did just that), then you had to get Unreal Tournament or the web browser disk so you could save some modem settings, then you could go back to PSO and join the server. I was amazed to be playing dreamcast online for about 10 min until I got bored, put everything away, and never touched it again.
What’s funny Nintendo didn’t believe in it and didn’t think it would take off lmao 🤣 Tells you a lot about Nintendo and yet Nintendo is still stuck in times somewhat
@@michaelmyersplays4992 Nintendo has attempted online services for over 30 years and the reception has been mixed at best. You may want to look up the Family Computer Network System, Satellaview and Randnet; if Nintendo attempted doing something like those today, there'd be enormous outrage. On the bright side, being "stuck in times somewhat" also means that on Nintendo consoles we likely won't have to worry about stuff like lootboxes or NFT's and other features that plague online gaming; be careful what you wish for.
That’s the coolest thing that retro fans found a massive loophole and revamped a GameCube game on internet, although only a few people play at once, the community is passionate enough the create servers etc. so cool
Spawn, I tried this about a year or so ago on my dreamcast with a dream pi. Had some fun with it, if I would have had the game back in the day I probably would have been hooked on it for sure.

Wow what a throw back. I had this for both Dreamcast and GameCube, such a great game. Early online games were so exciting to play. It was a completely new experience and when your mom finally succumbed to paying the monthly subscription, you were in childhood nirvana. Until your parents yelled at you for constantly blocking the telephone line…
That was impressive I didn’t even know gc could even do that but I did wonder why that slot was available other than hooking a game adapter up and playing those on a bigger screen you learn something everyday thanks that was informative
Fun fact: Schthack was created a couple months after the official PSO server were taken down and they had been running ever since. Hearing the lobby music kicked me right in the face with nostalgia again. Thanks!
Its always so interesting to me that players still find a way to play old games like this. I sometimes log into Star Wars Galaxies (Legends) but that game I feel was way more popular. It surprises me that not only was there even 1 other player playing PSO on gamecube, but someone actually joined up with you.
Phantasy Star Online offline co-op was my fav with friends. The biggest problem with the offline co-op though is game progress is only saved for single player. Every time we would play again, it would start at Forest I again unless someone had single player progress
I have PSO ep. 1&2 PLUS, which I recommend as the best experience of the title on GC, though it is about 3 to 4 times more expensive than the reg PSO on GC
I always just used the things on the bottom to store my memory cards and microphone for Mario party. Never even thought it was meant for a LAN adapter.
man i remember playing PSO in my college dorm. I don't remember how, if we bought modems from EB, or eBay, but we used our college's dial up connection to go play online even though we were opnly a few rooms apart in the dorm. we also go walkie talkies for voice coms. man what a wild ride.
I always wanted to play Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 online on my Gamecube, but I didn't Cable modem until much later. At least I got to play local split screen with my friends, family and neighbors. Everyone I had introduced to this game absolutely fell in love with it.
I'm sick and tired of these mail order food companies saying its fresh. NOTHING SHIPED TO YOUR DOOR IN A BOX IS "FRESH" except maybe take out delivery like a pizza! Nothing. Its in a box and it took a ride via mail. NOT FRESH! NOT! That being said great video. lol
This is cool! Can't believe people are still playing after all these years. It's fun to discover old communities in games that you wouldn't think are still alive. It's just like the Star Wars Jedi Knight games... Those were the days of plugging your Ethernet cable into your console and playing with complete strangers with no way to communicate except the sound of your gun.

I feel like videos like this can pump some life into small online communities like this
I put hours and hours and hours into PSO on Gamecube back in the day, and couldn't even play online!
I'm one of those people that can't stop playing this game even in 2023.
I played that on Dreamcast and, Oh boy! Do I remember some of the questionable custom emotes that were made back in the day, with the limited assets the game gave us. Fun times!
This was amazing to watch, we still have our memory card with our characters!
Oh man this takes me back! Played the shit out of pso. I remember my brother buying a GameCube keyboard controller that was in Japanese and English.
Don't forget about PSO III, the card games was really fun. I used to play it with all my friends back in the day. Good times.
@@nuclearbeeberman yeah none of them really give a shit about BC if there's no money to be made
@@nuclearbeeberman you clearly have never heard of the disc drive still having reverse compatibility. Halo 2 still works just fine inside an Xbox One
Loved watching this video so much. Seeing that gaming communities havent died out like this makes me smile. Thats so awesome!
The population is more just you need to know when everyone else is online, this is usually done on discord.
I can confirm this, I played on Sylverant servers
RetroNAS on GC could be a great use of the broadband adapter. Great video!
Gamecube was the last great Nintendo system in my eyes when Nintendo still wanted to be within arm grab of power compared to its competition... I miss those days so much but the Switch is still great
Agreed one of my favorite consoles
Switch is mid in my eyes
Bro… you gotta try this console they put out called the “WiiU”
@@LeonSKennedy7777 the wii u was supposed to compete with xbox one and ps4 though
Yes the good old days
@@LeonSKennedy7777 The Wii U is less powerful than an Xbox 360 and PS3, and it was meant to combat the PS4 and Xbox 1...
I never thought I’d hear Discord mentioned in a GameCube game…
I never played this but I've become very intrigued with it in recent months. Really fascinating piece of videogame history!
Pso blueburst free download for pc with people always on
Best game ever made.
My head cannon says Kaitlyn is a fan of Spawn Wave and only stayed in his game because she thought it was him. We can only hope the real Kaitlyn shows up in the comments 🙏🏻 😂
Hi, I didn't know it was spawn lol
I am infact a subscriber though, and when i DID see myself in this video, i was kinda shocked lol
That’s awesome! I have no reason not to believe you and I already have a bias towards wanting this to be the case. That’s awesome though…now we can only hope Jon sees your comment 🤞🏻
@@Cookberg lol maybe, that would be funny
hope you have a good day :)
@@autumn_mnya I went and found your comment thread and posted in it. Maybe it’ll get a heart from Spawn himself.
You have a good day too 😃
Lol wow that's actually really cool
Amazing man! I still have my original black GC with the GBA adapter & disc and pretty sure I have this broadband adapter too 🤣
It was so fun seeing you find an actual person playing pso! 😄
Have you really never owned a pc that long?! You sir deserve a medal
@@DragonProtector no I have not beyond a smart phone and gaming consoles which are technically extremely tailored PCs.
@@Aqua_Toad steam deck?
You can try with a wii and nintendont instead, it can emulate a broadband adapter for gamecube games
Sadly, I never experienced that myself -we never owned the adaptor or knew anyone who did-
Pure professional. Don’t normally feel the urge to like but how well he runs this channel I go out of my way to like the video. Thank you
My friend and I played this game a lot on the original xbox.
A chapter of Nintendo's rocky history with online gaming. Yep...
What’s funny Nintendo didn’t believe in it and didn’t think it would take off lmao 🤣
Tells you a lot about Nintendo and yet Nintendo is still stuck in times somewhat
@@dogg-paws here we go a fanboy defending Nintendo like they can’t do no wrong lol 😆
@@michaelmyersplays4992 What I said is the truth, isn't it? Think before you blabber out nonsensical attacks!
That’s the coolest thing that retro fans found a massive loophole and revamped a GameCube game on internet, although only a few people play at once, the community is passionate enough the create servers etc. so cool
I play from time to time on the Dreamcast on the same server. Its awesome! You can also play online with the wii.
This game, on the Gamecube... This was the first game I played online, man I enjoyed this video.
Can't wait for 2032's video to see how many people are still online with Game Cube.
I’ve been playing PSO on Gamecube since 2016 and I’ll be playing it online forever.
@@Matichuu well good health to you sir and see you in 2032.
Spawn, I tried this about a year or so ago on my dreamcast with a dream pi. Had some fun with it, if I would have had the game back in the day I probably would have been hooked on it for sure.
Can we get a PS2 online video next? So great to see these still work online.
I play online on Dreamcast it’s still my favorite online rpg. It’s just so chill. It’s weird because usually chill games get boring but this doesn’t. There’s just something about it that other games don’t have. The simplicity is perfect
Hello bro, excuse me, what is the name of the most populated server of Phantasy Star Online Game Cube :)?
I wonder if its possible to play phantasy star on a wii and connect to that private server.
It is, by using Nintendont to emulate the BBA using wireless connection or an USB to ethernet adapter
you can access PSO with your Wii vía wifi, search on how to connect to Schthack sever on your Wii and you’ll find it I’ve been playing the peak players has been 40 (4 per session) a day and it’s been a blast
If you are on at the right times, there are quite a few people on SCHTServ!
Loved this game. Super stoked to see this back up. Thanks
The fact this exists is wholesome as fuck. I played gran turismo 4 online last weekend, that shit is a blast i tell you.
My GameCube experience as made it to Level 5, now my mom is going to allow me to but this special accessory to play my favorite GCN games ONLINE! :)
I actually use the BBA with Swiss to stream the entire GameCube catalogue of games off my NAS.
I always just used the things on the bottom to store my memory cards and microphone for Mario party. Never even thought it was meant for a LAN adapter.
Finding someone online to play together in that game, that’s actually incredible to me.
Bizzarly not super uncommon, I just started myself
man i remember playing PSO in my college dorm. I don't remember how, if we bought modems from EB, or eBay, but we used our college's dial up connection to go play online even though we were opnly a few rooms apart in the dorm. we also go walkie talkies for voice coms. man what a wild ride.
Crazy you found someone and there is a server, lmao.
Brings me so much warm nostalgia. PSO 1&2 plus was my life as a kid
Lol seeing spawn discover this server and being surprised at how it's still being updated is hilarious to me.
NOT FRESH! NOT! That being said great video. lol
The nostalgia kicked in! Nice video man!
I love that the retro market is booming crazy and its getting bigger and bigger!!
