There is no other version that paints the picture of this tragic scene better than this arrangement. Brings me close to crying. I hope to perform this one day
I love it and the way the sound intensifies in that space. Those mediaeval cathedral builders really understood the human voice, architecture and space. Not surprising when you consider there was nothing else. This is heavenly, a great version, thank you!
I had the privilege of hearing my daughter sing this with the Pembroke Girls' Choir in Cambridge on Monday. The choir director said it was one of the choir's favourite pieces this year. I found it arrestingly beautiful. Thank you for writing it.
Heard this for the first time this morning as a tribute to the 26 angels of Newtown, CT. Haunting, moving, perfect arrangement of a haunting, moving Coventry Carol. Thank you for contributing to a contemporary canon of choral masterpieces.
I first listened to this at St.Paul's Cathedral in London during Christmas service. The most magical minutes of my life, totally felt like from another universe...
Hard to express in words how beautiful this is, it has stayed with me so that here I am playing it again.I have shared it with my friends as I believe it equates to sending love and healing.Thank you.
I just heard this on Classic FM and stopped whatever I was doing only to listen to it - this is the music that makes our lives worth living.. Thank you Mr Stopford!
I play the organ every year at Christmas and it's always really nice to have this in our concert most years you always know it's going to be great from the start
Sang this song in high school ten years ago and still love it! (It was also an easy song for altos to sing against the current of the melody, which is appreciated!)
My high school concert choir sang this last year for a christmas recital. It was by far the most beautiful piece we have ever sang, and I still remember all of the words to this day
@W7ENK I totally agree and understand what you are saying, I've been playing this non stop for a few days myself! In a season where it's more busy than silent - music like this causes us to pause and listen to the glory of God..at least that's how I hear it. Blessings!
So looking forward to singing this at Christmas, especially as my son has the privilege of singing the solo at the end. He's about to turn 14, so is on borrowed time as a Treble! Beautiful piece, love the balance and harmony of the voices - thank you Philip.
My varsity high school choir sang this song for our Christmas concert on December 14th, the night of the shooting in Newtown. It was so emotional and the audience was in tears. Such a beautiful song.
Our choir at The Shrine of Saint Therese performs this every year for Christmas. If it doesn't bring at least a few tears to your eyes, you need to have your heart checked.
The Thomas Circle Singers just performed this in Washington D.C. What an incredible piece of music! I am so grateful we were able to sing this and really hope to sing more of Mr. Stopford's music in the future.

I sang this my senior year of high school with my Madrigal choir, and not only was it our favorite, we learned this faster than any other song, barring the songs that were always the same year to year. We then discovered that the other schools in our network had added this to their shows after our conference sing, which made us proud that we introduced the area to this wonderful song. I don't remember most of the songs I sang in high school, but this one stuck with me, even now 5 years after I graduated.
This is absolutely my favorite choral piece by far. I haven't heard any choir/ensemble sing it like this. Just beautiful. It brings me to tears. Wonderful job.
This is heaven sent, Such a beautiful lament based on sadness , but from now the true wicked deeds of someone no naive is remembered as a fool will stir his grave , and will he will listen to this to remind him of his stupidity , Choristers , Producers , Thank you for such a beautiful rendition, D..

The acoustics in that cathedral almost add an extra harmony...Gorgeous.
First time we rehearsed this I had to pause and regroup, because you can't sing when you're all choked up from the beauty of it.
Bit of a double-edged sword isn't it....
Can't sing to save my life, but this carol brings a tear or two...can not understand why anyone would dislike this ?!
There is no other version that paints the picture of this tragic scene better than this arrangement. Brings me close to crying. I hope to perform this one day
Voces 8 😊
I love it and the way the sound intensifies in that space. Those mediaeval cathedral builders really understood the human voice, architecture and space. Not surprising when you consider there was nothing else.
