In only three short years, Skoda’s SUV range has gone from zero to three models. The Skoda Kamiq is the newest and smallest of the trio, and despite the notion that it’s the replacement for the much-loved Yeti, it has much more in common with the Skoda Scala hatchback. In a market sector full of competent rivals, including the Citroen C3 Aircross, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur, as well as VW Group siblings, the Volkswagen T-Cross and SEAT Arona, does the Kamiq make the grade? Love the matching trousers, Batch!
I tried both the Scala and the Kamiq at the local dealer on the same day. Both with 16” rims. They were both comfotable drives, but the Kamiq won. Just feels more mature. I think the reviewer didn’t take into consideration that his test car has huge rims, 18”?, which always results in a less comfy drive experience.
Review was okay... James's trouser was brilliant and matching 👍
Why review a top model car if most buyers are interested in the mid-range model??? Most of the reviews i see are for top model specs, making them completely useless.
That'll be the car provided to them by the manufacturer

I'm surprised you mentioned that the ride was bad everywhere else seems to mention its the best in class.
Puzzles me too. Especially as its a comfortable ride until he compares it to Scala, then its suddenly bad, full stop.

Love this car. Hope Skoda launches this in India soon. It would give the Kia Seltos and next-gen Hyundai Creta a serious run for their money.
“The ride is bad. Full stop” is very inconsistent with the written review, stating: “ Despite being taller than the Scala, it still handles neatly without much body roll. It’s also refined even at motorway speeds, and cushions most bumps like a much more expensive car.” So, which is it?
i tested one the other day it drives very well, smooth ride
Just had a test drive in one and thought the ride excellent. Hmmmmm..
I have tested it twice now, with both 16" and 17" wheels, and both were very pleasent and composed drives.
I wonder whether the review car had not had all its transportation packing bits removed. Just a thought....
@@jimviv6030 Much more likely the tyres were over inflated as a result of a rushed PDI which will wreck any car's ride as I have found not infrequently.
When Škoda announced Karoq they told the whole automotive industry (and everybody else) that it is replacement for the Yeti! So this one is something completely new.
First I was split between the Kia Stonic and this the Kamiq...but that was clearly explained that the Skoda was better...but then new problem was revealed...the Kamiq or the Scala ( cut the later one is more spacious surprisingly)...any opinions?

guys hes talking bollocks the ride is awesome I have the SE 1L 115 great suv.
None of the journalists ever mention that 1.6tdi manual is 5 speed only not a a 6 speed. Found that out recently and that's a no no for me

Now I personally really like the Scala, but eehh... I'm not so sure if the face or especially the rear work on this body style.

How come for the Australian market, Skoda doesn’t plan on introducing the e-sim functionality in Australia that is required for Laura like they are in other markets?
(I’m from the UK, I’m just curious as to why this is)
Not an explanation but this is all that Skoda Australia wants to say about it. "It’s unlikely as the feature requires car connectivity via a SIM, which we currently do not plan to introduce," said Kurt McGuinness, PR manager for Skoda Australia.
Weird take since the technology and plans are available. It could be the cost of supplying it versus the amount of people who will adopt.

I couldn't work out his criticisms. 3 years after the video was posted I have tested a Fabia and the Kamiq and the Kamiq won for me quite easily not that the Fabia was bad, so that has to be a good sign.
So, does it drive like crap or not, one minute its a very comfortable ride, the next, when compared to Scala, its a terrible ride. Full stop. Confused :-/
Wish you would not always review the top spec models, be nice to see mid range which most people would buy
Good looking car, better proportioned than the Scala and Karoq.
Weird, I’ve got the Kamiq Monte Carlo and even with the 18” wheels it’s one of the best riding cars I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned/driven lots. Others have said it here and pretty much every review I’ve ever seen say it’s ride and comfort is top class. Odd review🤷🏼♂️
Skoda is doing well in suv segment .. suv is a global trend more practical cars
why do they always make reviews with top spec car and never show the basic one.. they should have the top spec to see the features but have th low spec to see how basic it is...

Pah! You nearly had me sold on one of these until you started talking down the ride quality. Lack of 4-wheel drive option also disappoints. :-/
Those alloys must be 19 inchers. Anybody that drove this car on 16 or 17 inch wheels, please let me know how the ride quality was.
Yeah, should make a huge difference in ride quality. I tried it with 16” at the local dealer. Very pleasent ride.

@@gantico true puma has 42 litre tank the kamiq has 50 litres.
As a potential buyer, it's just a pity that you chose to review an engine that will only appeal to a niche contingent within the private (ie. non fleet / commercial) driver demographic in the UK, for that can have a wider knock-on for the overall review experience in terms of refinement, handling, etc. and I was really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on either variant of the 1.0 petrol, which will take by far the lion's share of UK sales. However, regardless of the engine, your comments on the ride are concerning, it's something I will have to look into.
With the benefit of a few hours on line surfing, I've found several reviews describing the Kamiq as 'one of the best-riding cars in the Small SUV class'. Now I'm totally confused...
The tyre size would likely have something to do with it. Packages always try and make it seem like it’s worth it by throwing in bigger tyres - some people like the look of bigger wheels on their SUV - but it doesn’t always equate to a comfy ride.

Holy moly, I thought the Kodiaq is quite a handsome thing, especially in sportline guise, but this on the other hand, what the heck happened? The proportion is all wrong! Bring back the Yeti please!
Don’t agree. The Yeti looks like Postman Pat’s car. The Kamiq is just more generic.

It is a real downturn when you consider that you do not get the Chrome Set with the SEL/Style and I cant understand the different spec between the UK SEL and the Irish Style models. I have bought a Kamiq Style with the 1.6 Tdi engine, I pick it up in just over a week, I traded my 2018 Octavia Combi in off it.

Ford Puma has a pretty small fuel tank 40 liters, Kamiq has 50 liters
@@gantico but Puma has better fuel economy, so probably about the same range..
@@TheSpudlyMcgudly fuel economy certification on hybrid cars could give misleading results because they test them on a short range and are more relevant for urban driving. Real life long range travel on highway tests are necessary to talk seriously about fuel economy. You need to wait at least some magazine tests. It might be true that Puma is more efficient also because of aerodynamics, but I do not expect that the total range on a highway would be same.
@@gantico True, although my comments were based on tests, not manufacturers claims. The mild hybrid system in the Puma does genuinely seen to offer increased torque and better efficiency in the real world from what I have seen so far.
Tim Blundell i just saw a test on an Italian magazine and at constant top highway speed (here the limit is 130km/h) Kamiq is actually consuming slightly less then Puma. So I would confirm that Kamiq has a significant better autonomy.

I drove the Scala and the Kamiq back to back. Both had 17 inch wheels. The Scala rode significantly worse.
Did the Kamiq feel noticeably taller than the Scala to sit in? Because to me it looks more like a normal hatchback than an SUV, just with chunkier styling..
@@TheSpudlyMcgudly Well, it definitely is a crossover and not an SUV. I mean I also had a drive with the Ford Ecosport. That feels tall. The main difference between the Scala and the Kamiq was not the driving position height but the feeling of spaciousness above the head area.
@@Gkoulidis sounds like it could be a good compromise then.. I have young kids that struggled to get in and out of the SUV I had before. I like the higher driving position and chunky styling of an SUV but need a car that a little closer to the ground. Space in the back does seem excellent in the Kamiq

This car should be called " Konfusiq "... the front look is so random, like it wanted to look ugly-weird on purpose, just like the Hyundai Kons or Citröen C3 Aircross. It absolutely doesn't match the the rear look/ lights. Meanwhile, it's all practical, roomy, functional, BUUUT, it doesn't come with 4x4 option.... WTF!?
There are so many wrong points in this review I don't know where to start.
It is a hatch back. No suv here.
It really is a shame VW killed what was nice and original about skoda. First the roomster, then the yeti. It’s all just a copy-paste between all the cars of the VW group now

@@gbej1 Maybe you are right. I have never tried a Scala or a Kamiq, so I don't know how insulated they are. But I would be extremely surprised and also very disappointed if the cabin is that loud in a Skoda.
@@georgem2456 Sound insulation in vehicles comes at a significant cost so there will be a limit to how much they can invest in this and still keep the cost low. You can tell from how shallow the door closure sounded at about 1:35. Well insulated vehicles tend to close with a more quiet and gentle thud. Nevertheless, I'm sure many will still be happy with the level of cabin noise in the Kamiq if it means a lower cost of the car.
@@gbej1 I know this car is cheaper and offers much more in terms of equipment,cabin and boot space compared to other rivals in it's class. I don't expect to be as relaxed as a Mercedes but I also won't accept it to be as noisy as a Hyundai Getz.

The Yeti and Roomster had more character and better names than these new ones, where do they take those horrible names from, Christ sake!!! Is it a C4 Picasso, is it a Cherokee? You'll never know till you look at the badge, that mainstream is this car look
