@natemr4482 There’s nothing wrong with that. We went to one of my nephews, and he did most of the cooking. Teresa and I made a carrot cake that turned out so good!
@@frankmarullo228 Thank you, Frank! Yes, we were working this fall hauling grain for some farmer friends, and I didn’t have much time to do anything else. We are planning on cranking back up, so be on the lookout for more videos soon!
I was just thinking about you and wondering if you're resisting Lodge's sale. I definitely do not need anything and there's nobody I know to give cast iron to that would give it a good home. $75 off of $250, a lot of stuff is on sale and I read it as over $75 is shipped free. That's hard to resist. On the topic of old cast iron, I have done the who made what and when did they make it sooo many times. I tell you the one that hurts. I have a The Favorite #8 and I have an unmarked #8 that looks just like it, everything is the same. The Favorite was made by Columbus Hollow Ware. Columbus Hollow Ware made cast iron from 1882 to 1902 and some of their stuff was made in the Ohio State Penitentiary. I figured my marked one was made in the prison and the unmarked one was made by somebody that used a The Favorite to make their mold. I was happy with that. Now I see an opinion that the marked skillet was made 1882 to 1885 and not in the prison. After 1885 Columbus Hollow Ware contracted with the prison to make unmarked cast iron. I haven't gotten comfortable with that story yet. Figuring out when Griswold used what markings has lots of stories and somehow many people are saying they used multiple markings at the same time. As far as old cast iron being made smoother, I agree a lot with the people that say it has worn smooth and we don't know what it looked like when it left the factory. My "new" Lodge skillets are pretty slick and I haven't been using them that many years. They were definitely rough when I bought them. I do scrape on the iron with metal utensils, I do use stainless steel scouring pads and I don't have a protective layer of seasoning, at least not a thick one. I did notice on the Lodge website they tell how to keep your cast iron from sticking and it's just proper heat and oil. They don't say anything about seasoning. That pleases me to no end. Maybe I've been doing it right all of these decades.
