- Dragon Ball Dissection December GT begins! Goku gets turned into a kid by the creepiest Dragon Balls of all. (Seriously, what is with the pile of corpses?!) That's going to have serious ramifications for his granddaughter, Pan, who's just trying to live her life and go on dates with random printer enthusiasts. How embarrassing!

Ahhhhhhh ahhhhh ahhhhh.
Grand Tour! Grand Tour!
Please step out of the grand tour.
Dragon Ball!
Step into the Grand Tour. A brand new adventure begins.
As a TFS fan, I imagine that the skeletons aren't victims of the nameless namekian before he split. They're victims of Popo.
Why do you think "Pecking Order" was enough to get a dying Kami to back down?
Former Kami's who didn't respect the Pecking Order.
Or the remains of Garlic and his men.
@@PlanetZoidstar
Why not both?
Oh dear Maggots you found my pecking order mass grave, I cannot let you leave (signature Mister Popo laugh track)
Congratulations, you predicted Popo's corpse jar 🤣
>watches a person he knows relatively well display freakish powers, decides to bail because she could literally end him over the slightest slight.
I don't think it's masculinity i think it's self preservation
You really had a bone to pick with this episode. 🥁🥁🥁
Ha! I see what you did there.
Just wanted to say that the whole 'Goku abandoned his family' thing does go both ways. He's on the Lookout. Literally every character has some means or another of getting there. If you want to see him he's the Dragon Ball equivalent of being a couple of streets away.
Pretty much this. Especially since most of the cast can sense ki. It shouldn't really doesn't matter where on Earth Goku is, unless he's intentionally hiding, anyone that matters could find him at any time.
Heck, wasn't 4-year-old Pan training by flying laps around the globe. She could have easily visited gramps all on her own whenever she wanted.
So this makes a one solid question. Why didn't anyone visit Goku or Goku spend time with his family?
He can teleport and communicate through thoughts.
This is broken house or something.
I hope Goten doesn't do drugs.
@@38procentkrytyk Nah, he just tries to get a girlfriend that can give him the love he didn't got at home...
@@38procentkrytyk: It's the same reason as why in Toriyama's ending neither Bluma nor Vegeta have seen Goku in the time skip between Buu and Uub. Or going back even further than that, why no one visited each other between the 23rd tournament and Raditz.
With the exception of making the occasional child, no one ever seems to do anything or interact between story arcs.
Goku has been abandoning his family and friends for most of his life; but no one wants to acknowledge that fact.
The "Sorry, Now Printing" Shirt is the best thing ever.
This is really exciting, I'm looking forward to how you cover through this arc.
I've always accepted the Neko Majiin canon of Dragonball. That being that the Son Family moves to Uub's village, where Goku hires Neko Majiin to eat Mice. It's the best of both worlds. Goku's training Uub but his family lives in the village too so the End of Z doesn't feel like he's ABANDONING them. Besides I kinda like the idea that Pan and Uub trained together for a while.
IT also makes sense. Why couldn't Gohan, Videl, and Pan (who can FLY!) just pick up their capsule house, you know the house that can turn into a capsule thanks to the advance tech of the world and fly to Uub's village and land there. They can also fly Chi chi there, because you know...flying
@@Martialartfruituser If Goku was so inclined he could literally warp her from wherever she is to wherever she wants to be.
@@yotomoe5953 you know I forgot to add that, thanks. You are right, Goku can literally teleport to anywhere as long as he can detect ki. So there goes missing anyone
There's no reason for the Son's to move to Uub's village. The Instant Transmission exists for a reason.
@@Ms.FortuneTeller True, but maybe they just wanna be around him more. Instead of Goku VISITING them, they just live where he is. They'll see him every day and night. Might even watch the training out of curiosity. The only issue I see with that is it might effect Goten's school life.
I know that the the timeskip was established as 5 years in the daizenshuu, but it is clear that Pan is depicted here as a teenager, albeit a short one. I wonder if Morishita intended the timeskip to be longer originally.
Now I'm sad that DBZA is over because The Black Star Balls are just begging for a Mr. Popo joke.
Your bit about "Goku training Oob as his day job" reminded me of a chapter from one of the Neko Majin mangas. Goku seeks out the Neko Majin (I think this one was named Z; it's been ages) because he needed his unique skill - to protect Goku and his family's food supply from mice. Among the people in the family shot is Oob, suggesting at some point Goku went back home and took Oob with him, either as his pupil or a foster son or similar. Perhaps it was meant more as a throw away gag or cameo, and less intended as more of a canonical explanation for "the Son family's living situation post the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai" but it came to mind when you mentioned GT's "Goku left everyone again" angle.
Agree, i just makes sense, Goku is show to truly love his family, he likes fighting but we see planty of moment where we see his love for Chi-Chi and Gohan, we don't get the chance to see a lot of him with Goten, but i imagine he also got to love him as he grow up into an adult, same for Videl as a daughter in law and Mister Satan as the in-law. So yeah i have also head-canon it that it's something similar to that.
_New DB Dissection_
_Like a whole quarter of the video is spent ranting on some skeletons that pop up for like 10 seconds._
Yup, this is definitely still DB Dissection.
Something I love about that first episode is how well it contrasts goku and Pan's response to trouble not affecting them and how relevant that becomes in episode three. Goku has no regard if anyone in the scene gets hurt until his food gets screwed, while Pan is shown to have a soft spot for that random kid and keeps helping him. In Episode three, Pan is the one who decides to help the planet's people against the tyrant leader while Goku and Trunks dismiss the whole thing.
Also, a bit early for this, but I really do like how Pan goes back to respecting Goku through the series. Its very subtle, but I like it all the same.
Agree
I live in Canada, so IIRC we didn't get the Funimation dub broadcast on TV for DBGT. What you mention about Pilaf's reminiscing about Goku being a kid being interpreted as a wish by Red Shen Long comes a surprise. The dub we got in Canada had Pilaf lose himself in an exasperated rant and let slip "I wish you were a kid again" and that's why Shen Long interprets it a wish.
Well, I guess we’re in similar boats because I’ve never seen FUNimation’s dub of GT either. Or any dub of GT.
Ahh, good ole YTV. I miss Carlos
My theory on the skeletons in Kami's closet is that they're just props, meant to hopefully scare anyone away before they try to summon evil Shenron.
In that case, you'd think the bones would be more prominent and not initially hidden.
@@TheAzulmagia Well you can't be too obvious. If they were hung up like Halloween decorations, then the intention would be obvious instead of "eh, gotta put them somewhere."
That actually sounds like something Mr Popo would do
they dont look human
@@evanvinet8773 It's a Dragon Ball world. There are many weird creatures living there.
The english dub is what makes GT take place ten years after the end of Z
That's what I grew up with lol
It made things slightly less weird with Bulla specifically, but not much else was greatly impacted.
If they didn't want Oob going to space with them, they could have at least had Goku tell him what happened and trust him to take care if anything happens to Earth while he's gone.
I recall in the English Dub, which may be me misremembering it was so long ago, that Pilaf said something like "I wish you were a kid again so I could teach you a lesson." Which makes the Monkey paw/Genie sideways wish granting of Red Shenlong seem less bullshit than him just passively mentioning it.
16:18-16:26 This is the highlight of this video to me 🤣😂
I imagine Mr. Popo finding the jar with the Black Star Dragon Ball and the skeletons saying 'This is fine' and leaving the room xD
After more than a decade of TFS's interpretation of Popo, I concur.
Nice Pan breakdown, but I cannot buy that she can’t recognize Goku given that his hairstyle is so recognizeable and never changes. It’s especially a hard sell given that Goku’s design is so iconic.
"Hey, you look like how Uncle Goten used to!"
We've known Goku all his life, she's known Goku from ages 0-4 and was only really self aware from age 3-4 so IDK lol. There should be photos of him but I took it the same way most older kids often don't remember family we haven't seen since we were toddlers.
Fair point, but it’s also a hard sell that a 4 year old in this universe that can fly and has super strength also has a realistic 4 year old memory. I’m sure Gohan remembers Raditz and training with Piccolo. And at the very least, she should recognize that this little kid looks like her father and uncle, even a little bit.
@@AOJW0401 Sure tho Dragon Ball plays very fast and loose with realism, it uses it when it wants and ignores it when it's inconvenient. These people can fly via various means and have a generous billionaire friend yet all refuse to just talk to each other before 5+ years have passed lol meanwhile in the real world friends who are far apart have to plan and save for months to luckily have 1 day of a meet up.
Personal theories on the skeletons;
1) they could be pure hearted warriors or monks who were buried with the Black Star Dragon Balls to keep them in some equilibrium. Hypothetically numbing Negative Energy if we use Shadow Dragons as a reference point.
2) they could be a remnant of Nameless Namekian's Dragon Ball forging process.
Maybe people were sacrificed to create them?
3) macabre, yet silly attempt to scare away anyone who wasnt detered by the tarp.
4) They were former Guardians/Gods or cannidates for the position whose corpses were just in the jar for some reason.
Silly Mistarefusion, those skeletons are Mr. Popos. They didn't know the pecking order.
Fool! Popo doesn't leave remains; his victims are obliterated!

So happy this series has started! Gonna be an interesting series for sure.
Also i feel bad for the guy that suggested: kozaru. Xd like that actually made a lot of sense and sounds pretty badass. Who won the contest tho? Furious George..... Damn lol
ikr, im all for little jokes and tomfoolery but... really?
agree... but I confess I laugh when he start with a well thought suggestion, all properly explained, tied to "ozaru" name, and considering the origin language... then "Furious George" 😅
Bicurious George came second
I saw the name "Hitozaru" being used on Dragon Ball Redux, a project that unites all Dragon Ball content (from the manga to Z to GT to Super, Heroes, movies, games, etc). Hito as the word for person, human and all. I personally love it.
Super Saiyan Fur got robbed
The kid wasn't afraid for his masculinity. He was afraid because he saw this girl basically kick the shit out of a bunch of hijackers. If he ever got on her bad side, she might just kick the shit out of him too. He decided "better safe than sorry" was the best course of action.
What do you expect from a man who wares women’s cloths?
Still a dick move
@@danieljliverslxxxix1164What "women's cloths"? Also, are you saying that crossdressing means one is afraid to take risks? Why don't you back that up with a source? Because I'm pretty sure that those two details have nothing to do with each other, so don't say "What do you expect" as if everyone will put them together.
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 " Why don't you back that up with a source?"
This is your brain on leftism folks.
The dude wears women's clothes in his videos when he shows himself.
A man who wears women's clothes preaching about what it is to be "really masculine" is the epitome of laughable leftist nonsense.
But what do you expect?
It's such a weird and unnecessary detail that the lookout just had this giant pot of skeletons. Without any explanation, it just makes Kami, Popo, or Dende look like serial killers.
Maybe they should have had Pilaf explain that the original Nemekian defended the black star dragon balls from people with bad intentions and kept their skeletons with the balls so it sends a message to thieves that look in the pot. Idk. Having the skeletons there was dumb.
Or maybe that pot is just where they lazily throw the corpses of past guardians as a way of burial. lol
GT may not be canon but it adds just as much nonsense as any dragon ball storyline
Before watching, i'll predict Lance likes the first half a Baby a bit because it's a breath a fresh air.
If i'm wrong, i'll eat My foot.
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. Damn
Oh man. Kozaru sounds cool as heck
GT was the first Dragon Ball series I watched from beginning to end. I never really got into the franchise growing up. It was only towards the end of middle school that I started buying random volumes of the manga off of friends because I liked the art, but from there, I was hooked. I started picking up just about whatever affordable Dragon Ball stuff I happened to run across: the movies, used games for PSP, etc. I didn't have a computer at home, and my local library would, on and off, block pirate sites, so it was hard watching any of the shows. I didn't want to break the bank by having my mom buy a bunch of season sets, but this one green one said "complete series", so I thought, "hmm". I knew GT took place after DB and DBZ, but I figured, with all the scattered information I had gotten from everything, I should be able to make some sense of it. And so, I stepped into the Grand Tour and loved it. I haven't given the series a full rewatch in a while, though.
I watched og db on cartoon network and Kai on nicktoons, I didn't even know GT existed until I bought the DVDs from the target store in 2012, it always seemed like an oddity to me.
Kozaru -> Furious George made me laugh. Really glad you're doing DBD GT.
I never knew that Raditz was portrayed by the Pilaf actor. That's awesome.
What i have seen you not mention is how the original Namekian was of the dragon clan which is why he could make dragonballs, the black star dragonballs should remain inactive even after Piccolo refused with Kami because he is a warrior type Namekian.
Also as others have mentioned, its kinda out of nowhere to shame a preteen for fragile masculinity when his reasons for being scared is because Pan is a superhuman(in his eyes we know she has alien blood).
That was my first thought too. Why would the Black Star Dragon Balls remain active, when the standard set went inert after Kami fused resulting in the need for Dende. The fact that Dende is in the episode when these things are introduced should have been a reminder that there appears to be some different, unexplained rules going on with these things.
8:59 I always thought those skeletons were just stuff from the last guardian of earth before Kami,
In hindsight, though I doubt that was the intention: what if the skelletons inside of jar keeping the Black Star Dragon Balls are the remains of the Dragons that we do get introduced later on? (Like it was probably meant to be like a prop, but seeing that and the need to escalate/change the direction of the show, maybe that was one of the scenes they looked back upon for inspiration behind the Black Star Dragons.)
As an aside, I do like Pan's design for this series. I know people preffer sweet Pan (I kind of like her too), but I do miss this tough yet somewhat embarrassed Pan.
19:05
I m pretty sure he freaks out because he understand a single wrong move could literally get him murdered.
He s a normal human that just saw his would be girlfriend do what the police couldn't do.
I mean i would understand if you called him a moron if pan's actions were on the level of a normal human (even peak human) but this, clearly not
I mean unless you missed the part where she punched through freaking pillar to reach a robber
Very good video as a start for this GT analysis. Being eargely waiting for this.
The way you commented about Dende usefulness in healing reminded me of the hilarious english dub where he says to Mr.Popo to bring the First-Aid Kit (something even my country dub kept by the way).
Also, here's a thought: if the Black Dragon Balls were created by Kami when he still had his evil inside of him, wouldn't that mean the Namekian have their own Black Star Dragon Ball in the place or alongside their regular ones? Unless the implication is that the corruption gained in planet Earth was necessary for them to exist like that (which could explain the whole 1 year planet explosion downside).
Yeah, my headcanon was that the Namekian made the black-star balls as his "audition" for the role of God, and the previous God inspected them and said, "These are no good! They would blow up the planet if you used them! You clearly don't have the purity of heart needed for this position..."
Fusion: What is wrong with you people!?
Popo: Hey! what do you mean you people!?
Can't say how excited I am for this December and this new era of DBD
I remember bingeing the series when I was 13 and we were only up to DKP. Here were are now. Crazy times and love your content!
Yes seriously guy, what's wrong with Kami?
I mean the nameless namekian stricken by amnesia after his space ship landed on Erath as a child.
As well as being tainted by the many evils of the Earth that gave him a need for power.
Kami knew little of his past and origins prior to the past 400 years only the desire to create dragon balls lingered in his mind as a constant.
Yes damn him.
I mean one reason people probably push the 10 years instead of 5 is Bra's design. I don't care what the official time lapse is, no 10-13 year old looks, acts and dresses like that. Similar issue with pan, they're written a little too old to be their supposed ages.
That being said it could also just be confusion between the combined time skip of end of z and GT and GTs time skip itself
One detail I love about the Black Star Shenron’s horns look like SSJ hair.
The way the first episode treated Uub is like how Back to The Future II treated Jennifer. Bob and Bob said that if they had actually intended to make a sequel, they never would have put Jennifer in the time machine. Oop, we made a sequel, but we never actually intended to DO anything with this character, so let's put him/her aside so we can just focus on the characters we actually care about.
13:40 I'm as much a fan of puns as the next guy, but I was really hoping "Kozaru" would get the nod...
An entire episode covered one episode. Ah so we're still in Kanas.
Makes you wonder how much Kami was a part of the original namekian... at least in GT anyway. Maybe it wasn't a 50/50 split, maybe Piccolo Daimao actually made up like... 95% of him and Kami is just what's left. lol
Uub is so... I don't even want to say "disappointing" because I didn't really have any expectations, we barely got to know him at the end of Z, so him just leaving and not showing up again till 30 episodes later is just very disorienting. They already wrote Pan as essentially a new character due to her age, why not include Uub on the adventure too? It doesn't feel like a huge loss or anything, again we barely know him at this point but it does feel like a missed opportunity to shake things up even more.
I really enjoy Pans character, especially her introduction. The fact that they don't explore her or develop her nearly as much as they could have, makes it feel like such a waste.
I think a lot of people prefer the 10 year time skip over the 5 year for 2 primary reasons.
If this was a 10 year time skip Pan would have been 14 which still would have been young, but would make some of her behavior more understandable to a western audience.
Second reason is well sort of correlated to the first. Pilaf wished for Goku to be a kid again, and what age was Goku when he was first seen by Pilaf? 12. Yet, if we go by the 5 year time skip Goku still appears physically young than an 9 year old Pan.
Anyone else expecting Lance to show up in Mighty Morphin' Zyuranger in a "Sorry, Now Printing" t-shirt?
Ok Mistarefusion, I totally respect your decision to not include copyright music for your videos. I just really want to now which songs would you have used for the Black Star Dragon Balls saga (or Baby saga), both intro and outro. Have a nice end of year.
I'm afraid I never got to the point where I was thinking about it. I guess it might have been Dan Dan.
@@MistareFusion nice choice, I like it. Be ready when I ask you about the other two archs. Greetings and keep going my man. You're the best, around.
Some would try video-game renditions of the songs!
Yay! A real GT dissection and retrospective that isn't glossed over.
We've been blessed with another amazing analysis
😂😂 Furious George is hilarious!
Dumping Uub was a mistake. He along with Pan are the faces of a new generation, and so it really should have been Uub who accompanied Goku and Pan into space. Instead we get Trunks, most likely just to pander to the popularity of the character from the Cell arc now that his younger counterpart has aged up.
It's weird because Trunks winds up falling off hard in terms of importance anyway.
@@TheAzulmagia: Possibly because they realized he was still too different than the original to connect with the audience.
I think it's because of like MistareFusion's video on the end of Z. Pan and Uub fill the same role of the next generation that'll learn from Goku, so having both would've made it redundant. And comparing Present Trunks to Future Trunks feels a bit unfair considering how they're two completely different people, and he naturally fits in the tech genius role that Bulma filled while able to fight, and having matured from his arrogant Buu saga stage.
@@TheAzulmagia Trunks is propably the GT character that does the most after Goku, granted his relevance is mostly in the first arc before they return to Earth but hey thats impressive relevance for GT standards.
Uub was made a huge deal at the end of z so him being drafted and be a punching for villains like baby and omega shenron feels so abrupt and strange.
I really hated how GT started with how convenient everything related to the Black Star Dragon Balls. They just happened to be there, they just happened to be created in a hole-filled story, they just happened to stay there untouched or supervised, Pilaf just happen to remember their existence after all these years, Pilaf just happened to be able to go to the palace, Pilaf just happened to summon the dragon there, Goku just happened to be there while they're at it, and just happened to make an accidental wish.
Agreed. There needed to be a logical reason for them being there and never being used. Them causing the Earth to blow up after a year. Doesn't seem like a bigger threat than Perfect Cell and Majin Boo.
Speaking of the timeskip being five years and Pan being 9. When I learned it wasn't 10 years it was only 5. I thought it was so stupid. Because Pan's actions make more sense if she was 14. But instead she is 9. In fact Goten is only 22. Meanwhile given a 10 year timeskip he would be 27. which I suppose makes less sense with the whole seeming so new to dating as he was. But really Pan is featured much more so it really should have been 10 years. I mean it make Vegeta changing up his look at least until he is judged into changing his mind feel like a better choice too. I makes Uubs growth physically also feel more realistic. At least to me. Also Vegeta's daughter who is young at the time of the 10 year time jump too. So her being 10 years older would make more sense too.
Since you briefly questioned it, my understanding is that the misconception that GT takes place 10 years after the events of Z instead of 5 years is because of the English dub. For whatever reason, the English dub seems to have extended the timeskip.
I have absolutely no familiarity with the dub. I was long out of watching any DB dubs by the time GT came to the states. Like I said in the video, I remember "knowing" it was 10 years long before the dub existed in any capacity. It might be *in* the dub, but I don't think it's *from* the dub. Even so, I have yet to find any instance of it even being said in the dub. Someone a few hours ago told me where it was said... but when I checked it wasn't.
@@MistareFusion gotta wonder if the "ten years" thing appeared in some advertisements or something and it wound up sticking somehow?
@@MistareFusion I always thought when people said "GT takes place 10 years after Z" they meant 10 years after the Buu saga. So they're adding the 5 years timeskip from Buu to End of Z, and the 5 year timeskip from End of Z to GT.
@@Yanhime97 Unfortunately, that does not work. 10 years pass between the battle with Boo and the end of Dragon Ball, not five.
@@MistareFusion Woops. Not sure how I misremembered that one when you mentioned it in this video. My bad
Plot Twist: Those skeletons were actually Mr. Popo's victims. They should've learned the Pecking Order.
Oh Dragon Ball GT the series that was so mysterious in the 90s just to find out we were happier watching Z LOL
6:55 you’re preaching to the choir. This is why a lot of people didn’t like the ending of Dragon Ball Z even if it was retroactive. They made Goku look like a terrible father/ grandfather/ husband for no reason or payoff.
Mr Popo knows that he needs to keep his mouth shut if he doesn't want to be part of the grave.
I love how they set up pan and I hate that they don't do much with her later on
Yeah, it doesn't help that the showrunners felt Pan worked better as the designated damsel for Goku to save. Hell even Giru has to save Pan when she nearly dies from exposure in the desert.
So excited for this new series, what a banger start
I think the 10 years was from right after the Buu arc. I just remember Bulma saying "we haven't seen eachother in 5 years." Goku then meets Uub and goes away for another 5, hence the 10.
End of Z is already 10 years after Boo is defeated. Goku just hadn't seen Blooma in 5 years.
I think the 10 year gap thing was because of confusion of pans age, some people think she's a teen in GT but she's only 11.It dosent help that both pans and bullas character and designs act more like teens than kids.
Great video has always. People usually dismiss Gt but I think that it's a really interesting show and the staff did they best they could at the time, even if some of the choices they made were questionable at best.
Loved it.
Although I would like to present one idea.
The way Piccolo, Kaioshin and Shenlong describes the Dragon Balls later on, it seems clear to me that Namekians can only decide how far the Dragon Balls travel, the number of wishes, and how long they need to wait to be used again.
Piccolo makes it seem like he couldn’t change the Earth destroying side effect of using the Dragon Ball’s comes as a result of how strong they are. Which in the Grander Story of GT, I think is a bit consistent with Elder Kaioshin’s statement that the Dragon Ball’s having the potential to turn the universe into chaos, and later the Evil Dragons arc.
LET'S GO!!! I'm so hyped. I didn't think we were gonna be blessed enough to receive Lance analysis for GT which the community desperately needed. There's some good videos out there talking about GT at length but a substantial amount of them are usually building it up at the expense of Super, (Which I'm not opposed to since I dislike Super) but at the end of the day, it's still a disservice to both if that's not what the video sets out to do.
I'm rewatching the entire franchise with my best friend and we're mid way through the Android Saga and I have to say, after my GT rewatch like a year ago, I might like it more than the latter half of Dragon Ball. It's got a LOT of problems but there's just something about the fact that GT sticks to it and actively continues passing the time of the series. Anyway, I'm looking forward to Lance's analysis because he tends to be one of the more even-handed critics in the Dragon Ball community.
Pretty sure the guy was afraid of the super powers rather then being insecure about his masculinity.
Kami: "I did a bad and made evil destructive Dragon Balls, better gather up a bunch of bones and leave them in the box alongside them to let people know they're bad business and that they shouldn't touch them."
Popo: "Good idea."
*MEANWHILE*
Mistare: "So, if we take a look at this completely rational conspiracy board I've drawn up, Kami is a mass murderer, Mr. Popo is an accomplice to mass murder, Dende is a post-factum accomplice also, Pilaf and Mai are indifferent to mass murder, your childhood heroes are all horrible people and your childhood is based on LIES!! Or something..."
rewatching GT after having seen Super is so interesting. It feels like there are always two factions in the writer's room. One side clearly wanted to move the series on to a new direction and was excited to play around with these new characters, or new iterations of old characters in a new stage in their lives as the main core of the show and the other one just wanted to keep piling on the high stakes, high energy action at all cost ready to sacrifice any character development or story for it. In GT, the plot faction won out over the character faction, in Super the character faction won over the plot faction, to the point where the show is perfectly comfortable just spinning its wheels and let nothing happen for long stretches, because they're confident just the banter and antics of the cast are charming enough to carry the show alone.
Somewhere between the extremes of GT and Super is an actual good Dragon Ball show. I hope we get to see another one of those some day.
what lmao. Super did the same thing, just piling on higher and higher stakes for every arc except for the Universe 6 arc. At most we got a couple filler episodes between arcs, with the biggest stretch being 9, and a few of those were still high-tension action episodes. And it did plenty of character regression, much more so than GT which actually stuck with some of the arcs that Z went through, most notably Vegeta's.
Like, the core premise of the first arc of GT is still high stakes, the world can be blown up, but it's 90% used as an excuse up until the last few episodes to have the three main characters interact in silly, low-stakes scenarios. Meanwhile Super starts up and after the first filler episode, immediately jumps into a god of destruction threatening the Earth and Vegeta going on his old "I WILL SURPASS YOU, KAKAROT!" speech that he repeats, contradicts, and throws away 20 different times in Super.
GT is far from a perfect show, but to act like it doesn't let its characters breathe in favor of high stakes action is just a weird assertion to make. All Super really has over it in that regard is a few extra filler episodes between arcs.
I can understand how pan changes & maybe no longer feeling to respect goku or connect with him until later this series. In the manga, I'm sure it's implied goku is going away with uub for good there's no mention when he'll return the anime meanwhile makes this even clear 🤷♂️
Solid work!
Bummed about Uub being dismissed though :/
Regarding the skeletons in Kami's closet, it was never directly stated how or for what specific reason Kami and Piccolo Daimaou split, but it could be fair to say that they split because they created these Dragon Balls using living beings as sacrifices which later could've led to a turmoil within the Nameless Namekian himself. Regardless of what exactly happened in this continuity, Kami should be blamed for it along with Piccolo. Plus this theory could also explain why these Dragon Balls are sort of cursed. As for Piccolo not knowing about Dragon Balls, it could be probably because Piccolo didn't have the memories of when he was a part of the Nameless Namekian. I don't think this is a necessarily a plot hole, it's just not touched upon which is a great shame.
That wasn’t Kami’s Dahmer shrine.. it was Mr. Popo’s.
My headcanon for Piccolo not knowing of the Black Star Dragon Balls is this:
The Nameless Namekian was simply the previous God. He never split into two people; he merely expunged the inner darkness within him, and that darkness took shape as an entirely separate being, with entirely different memories. Hence why I think Piccolo Daimao was more demon than Namekian; he was essentially the spirit of a demonic entity inhabiting a fabrication of a Namekian body. He wasn’t a true Namekian; that was always just God. Majunior merging with Nail was what made Piccolo a true Namekian in my eyes.
Hey, thats me! I can't believe that dumb name won haha. The figure looks great on my shelf!
I feel like having it take place 1 year after end of Z would've been a better compromise.
Finally! Someone else noticed that Piccolo didn’t know what the dragon balls were before the Black Star Dragon Balls were introduced in GT.
Maybe when the original Namekian partitioned his soul, it partitioned his memories as well.
@@EmeralBookwise picollo knew the Dragonballs during Cell and Buu so PLOT HOLE
Also, where the hell was he in the beginning!? There was not even a throwaway line to explain Piccolo's absence since he was still living at the lookout in this continuity. Might have helped me buy his sacrifice at the end of this first arc.

What’s really sad is that Super Pan seems like she spends even less time with Goku than GT Pan did.
End of Z Goku hadnt seen ANYONE in 5 years
There is a bunch of scenes in Dragon Ball Super about Goku visiting Gohan's house and him seeing Pan.
You're only saying this because they don't interact in DBS Super Hero.
@@HistoryandReviews That line holds no weight in Dragon Ball Super. DBS arcs has been taking place within the last 5 years before the EoZ.
Give it some time, we might see more of that in the next saga whenever the DBS manga comes back from break.

Obviously, those were the skeletons of everyone who broke the rules of Popo's training.
Help! I can't stop laughing now 😆🤣
Nah they're the remains of Garlic, his men, and Blue Popo.
Yup. It is true.
Oh, it wasn't even a wish in the original Japanese? I remember the dub had Pilaf say something like "I wish you were a kid again so I could teach you some manners."
Also, wow, original Namekian Kami was more of a supervillain than Piccolo. At least the latter only intended to blow up a city every year or so.
The subtitles translate it as, "If only you were a kid we could beat you to a pulp."
@@MistareFusion Yeah, that's definitely pretty loose wording to interpret as a wish.
I’m glad I'm not the only one who felt the same way when Goku turned back into a kid. Because even when I first watched GT, I understand the reasoning for why he would turn back as a kid.
Goku has gotten so powerful to the point where it’s hard to escalate the action even further then how he is in the Boo arc. So having him being younger and back into a child thus limits his powers and helps deescalates the action and presents new challenges. Plus I always kind of prefer how Goku was early on in the series as opposed to him later on when he only seems to show up at the last second to fight the really strong bad guy like in the latter arcs.
This is gonna be a great series to really dissect and I can’t wait for more!
I kinda agree. If they had explored an unseen story from the past, I might be able to hold interest in it. It’s still weird that Goku is essentially a middle aged man in a child’s body.
If that was the point, Toei dropped the ball immediately by making Rildo stronger than Buu.
@@Dexuz That's because Toei rapidly shifted the series direction since fans didn't like the lighter adventures. At least, that's what I heard; I'm sure Lance will talk about it.
Why do you nerds LOVE the word ARC ARC ARC ARC
@@Dexuz Well what else are you gonna do? "Oh yeah, this guy is as strong as Raditz and Frieza's soldiers back in the Namek arc. He's definitely going to be a threat against Goku, kid or not."
Crazy to think had bebi cell not been killed in his test tube he would've surfaced around the time GT takes place.
Maybe Dende is just such a worthless god that he never actually learned how to set up the barrier that prevents people from reaching the temple.
Or he's just less secretive and reclusive.
I'm really curious what you think of the whole planet M2 arc because it's my favorite part of the series by far. Also Pan is an awesome character
Going by Team Four Star's interpretation of Mr Popo, I wouldn't be surprised if _he's_ the one that put those skeletons there.
I feel as though it is conducive for debate to mention that while you may prefer the classic look of child Son Goku, it does kinda backtrack on a beloved aspect of Dragon Ball, the passage of time. All but literally.
I’m sure I don’t need to explain in detail how going back on this is quite upsetting, even if it was for this one way. Given how we primarily focus on Goku, even though the rest of the Dragon Team experience natural change and generational adaptations, it feels like a soft betrayal of the constant growth of the character.
MR. POPO: Yes, five corpses... (laughs)
They didnt follow the pecking Order!
@@Videospiel-Man5730Bunch of fools
In the original Namekian's defense...maybe they aren't bones of intelligent creatures? One of them seems pretty gorilla like...though with everything from lizards to dogs being capable of speech in Dragon Ball, that really doesn't suggest anything. Still, maybe there is some explanation other than him killing a bunch of people. Like, he's just really into prop design and made them out of paper mache or something.
Mr Popo left those bones there. I can not be convinced otherwise
19:09 This guy may be a coward, but given how insufferable Pan becomes in a few short episodes, maybe he dodged a bullet.
He could just looking for occasion for ger to get distracted.
She's also a 1/3 Saiyan. Even though the guy doesn't know that to him he probably thinks she's super human. And see her get upset that quickly like that might have been a red flag for him. Plus, they're both preteens. Calling him a loser and making fun of his masculinity is just overall fucking stupid.
Like I made the same argument towards Mister fusion about Mr. Satan being sexist turning the buu arc before fighting 18. When Mr. Satan being sexist makes sense to me for his character. Because, his a cheater and a loser who lied his way to the top. Yeah, he might display superhuman feets at some points in the series. But, it's either used as a comedic effect or to show that his more a performer than a fighter.
I reluctantly agree. lol
@@aaroncross6874 Yeah as much as I like this series-Mistare Fusion has some odd moral lines in the sand randomly and they tend to be around depictions of masculinity and apparent sexism. That Videl episode came out of nowhere for me.
@@HeyFella Oh God. I can go on a long ass rant about that episode. I could make a low quality shit video due to my lack of skills in editing. But, honestly it shows which side he prefers and doesn't want to be unbiased with his political takes. His slightly sudden and unsudden rant about women good and most man characters bad. Especially if they really don't have anything to them. If it was a joke. It wasn't funny and it will turn off a lot of viewers.
Furious George was mental masterwork
My favorite is Bicurious George
Thanks!
Side note: Dende would then be recast in 2009 by Haruhi Suzumiya herself, Aya Hirano. I am not sure why that is the case.
Dende's original seiyuu passed away, I don't think Hirano does adult/teen dende
Step into the GRAND TOUR, a brand new Dissection begins!!!
The holiday season truly arrives
I really don’t think Pan’s date bailing was an act of threatend masculinity I believe it was pure fear. A 9 year old girl with powers equivalent to Superman would scare anyone in the real world. Or at the very least be too overwhelming to process and be at peace with rather than just going “cool” and moving on. That sort of thing is world shattering, it goes against all we are taught and know about reality. And seeing as the world of Dragonball has turned more into our own world in terms of how not normal this sort of thing is to the average person and taking into account how people have been reacting to it in the past, I’m inclined to believe this. If I had been in the same situation I would have at the very least be overwhelmed to possible trauma but you can fit that sort of thing into a throw away character so the easiest route is to just have him running away in fear.
I agree
While this obviously true, the video creator had his brain damaged by feminism and can only interpret male-female interactions through the lens of "man bad"
Yeah I took it that too since thats often how others react to the cast's strength including Goku's kidnappers in the next episode.
I thought that was obvious since it was building on Toriyama thinking the world somehow never learned about ki, and would be freaked out like the Goten and Trunks fight at the world tornament (or he was thinking the gag first, logic be damned).
Is this My Super Ex-Girlfriend?
Although I wish prekid Goku looked older and like a grandpa, I like that they made his skin darker to show that he's been in a sunny land for years (same with Uub).
One thing I'll always have a hiccup with he art style though is how...reflective everyone looks. Everybody has highlights most of the time and it's a little distracting lol
That mass grave is really the corpses of everyone who made it to the lookout, but couldn't survive Popo's training. Rather than tell Kami, Popo just hit the bodies with the black star balls, knowing Kami would never look there.
Also, perhaps not all of King Piccolo's memories were in tact after the split. Idk.
Now I wish I'd tied it into the joke I made in 2014 about Karin pushing off the corpses of those who tried the Choushinsui.
@@MistareFusion time to go through the trouble of editing and re uploading 😂 jk.
MY problem with the black star balls is this...Why are they still here? If Piccolo made them before the split, then they should be stoned and gone since he is a new namek. If not, then why didn't Piccolo, now back in his original body before the split, go to where they were and throw them into space or to New Namek or somewhere. And even if he forgot he made those balls, then why weren't they destroyed when the lookout was blown to pieces during the Buu and Gotenks fight?
Now that I think about it, why doesn't Bulma's radar ever pick them up? Like the moment they are revived, she should be seeing fourteen, or before Dende comes, see seven right there.
It amazes me, that Super had a solution for them and this show just goes off the bloody rails.
The radar thing is definitely a good point. I'd say that maybe the temple has protections against being tracked, but we all know how that seems to work out...
On top everything you mentioned, my issue with the BS dragon balls is that for King Kai even know about them, someone would of have to used them at least once. But that should be impossible because no one would of had the means to gather them again and/or restore the Earth (or whatever planet that exploded) afterwards.
Maybe they turned to stone when the Nameless Namekian split and were restored when Piccolo fused with Kami.
@@ligtningdog6399 Right. Makes zero sense that they hadn't been used. Especially after Super Boo showed up on the Lookout. Piccolo was willing to lock himself in an alternate dimension to stop Boo. But not use the BSDB which could have killed Boo immediately.
In Germany, the Black Star Dragon Balls are referred to as Super-Dragon Balls.
3:20 The time skip confusion was likely because the early days of the DBZ fandom didn't really know about the End of Z.
Funimation just mudded the waters more because, most likely, they didn't like the idea of Pan and Bra/Bulla being pre-teens. Bra is the reverse of saiyan boys, looking older than her age.
5:00 One of top 5 things I HATE about GT. I get it, Uub was a nobody that people didn't/don't like. But any half decent writer could/should at least TRY to do something with character him. A character what born with powers to rival the SSJ3 Goku and then was trained Goku himself. Just because he wasn't a saiyan didn't mean he's worthless.
Never really gave any thought to the skeletons there, my big plot-hole for the set-up of the series comes down to how the hell did Pilaf discover the existence of the black star dragon balls in the first place, though that ultimately isn't particularly relevant, seeing as they were only a plot-device that existed to justify the series' existence.
Making Goku a child is a nice way of powering him down, though as the series will show, even while unable to go full out Goku still is able to simply overpower his opponents, with things only being made more difficult whenever the enemy has to be beaten in a way that isn't to simply overpower them (the dancing brothers come to mind, as well as that big statue robot that was seemingly invincible).
