Just started drums. Posted my first Misfits cover. Im getting into doubles which I have down its the back to back that are getting challenging. Then they have a late kick at the end. Im gonna try your foot technique Such fun to play. Sounds so cool. Thanks for vid!
Gad DAAMN! watched bunch of dbeat tutorials and this one is the most clear and easy to understand! Played it right away after watching! THaaaaaaaaaaannks
To play it fast, it is all about technique. Here is a video on the bass drum technique needed to get it quick, which I hope helps: ua-cam.com/video/HyPFeg0LHeI/v-deo.html
It’s getting the heel toe and using the tip/shank methods that takes time when you are at speed….trust me. I just spent the last 4 years teaching myself to be a punk drummer…there can be shortcuts tbf oh ok he uses the slide technique or the tap dancer as I shall now call it! Ha
I agree, the bass drum "tap dancer slide" takes some time to master, but once it is strong it can be used in punk beats and other styles. The real challenge is getting the needed power to make it pop. Thanks for comment and keep drumming.
Question! This is awesome, but how do you play so fast? My hands can't keep up. I can only play as fast as 3:08. How do you play as fast as 3:14? Do you use the shank technique on the hi hat? How do you practice this? I'm such a novice I don't even know if I'm making sense lol
This is a great question. It sounds like you need to loosen up. The trick to playing fast is being relaxed and having good technique (I use mostly my fingers at the higher speeds). I just got a kit I love this genre will the bass drum technique require good ankle movement I have a prosthetic foot but I want to be able to move up this speed
I appreciate the comment. I’ve only not gotten a gig once for playing too light. But, when I toured with a punk band (back in the day) I hit a bit heavier.
@@johnowensdrums Yeah, the same here, cross country gigs from a van, only difference was it was always hard hitting, every tune, or I wouldn't have been involved.
AKA “the forbidden beat” because non punk musicians absolutely hate it 😂
especially when you you use the crash instead of the hi-hat. love doing it to piss off the jazz musicians
Why do they hate it though? I personally love the off beat emphasis in it, I'd think "the sophisticates" would love it too
Also common in metal drumming! The variations on this are endless and give you the punk/hardcore/metal building blocks!
Absolutely! I was listening to Metallica’s Blackened last night, and same type of groove. Great insight.
Hardcore punk drum style was the inspiration to thrash metal
Post hard Metalcore
I'm not a drummer but I really love that drumset! That's really the only reason I clicked on this video. I love simplicity!
I am all about small and simple drum sets. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you like my kit.
Snare, kick and hi hat sounds awesome

Let's be real - that intro fill goes waaaaay beyond what 99% of HC punk drummers were capable of :D
Amazing teacher thanks so much!!!
You're most welcome and keep drumming!
Subscribed. ADD as shit, not at all what I was looking for, but absolutely an amazing resource to have handy. Thanks!!

Nice instructional. How about a d-beat instructional next?

when I hear this groove slow all I think of is My Sharona.
That would be a great punk cover.
Nice thanks! How do you play that tasty opening lead in fill???
There is a lot there. It’s a combo of accents, taps, and rolls.
Tu-pa tutu-pa
Exactly.
Nice 👌👊

It’s called the cash beat for punk rock
Swear to god i was playing Punk-O-Matic on newgrounds for a moment
Are you doing Mueller technique on high hats? Or just downstrokes?
Solid observation. I am using Moeller in my right hand to get the speed.
This also works for klezmer
😂😂😂😂 the best harizmatik drummer)
amen break !!!
D beat
its just a faster rock beat
Yes, yes it is.
tupatutupatupatutupa
1:25 Open-face? Are we talking drums or sandwiches?
It’s drum slang for putting the ride on the left (no crossover), but I’d say it applies to both.
To light handed for my preferred Hardcore, many think its just about speed, but hey, musicians are the worst for opinions huh.

This comment is so punk rock! Fair enough.
