Bought one used… glad I did. Never was able to consistently get same results. Because it looks like an iron, I constantly had to remind myself to use a putting stroke… “putter… putter… putter”, as I stood over the ball. Sold it for a profit.
I was given a chipper a few years ago and never used it, but put it into my bag a few rounds ago to see how it would perform. I am amazed. Not only does it work around the green, it works from longer distances, out of the bushes etc etc. If I want a shot that goes straight and rolls on and on, out comes the chipper. I've saved at least 5 shots per round because I've essentially eliminated the duff from my game, and up and downs are now the norm, not the exception.
I got one last year, my 3rd shot with it I chipped in for eagle from 30 yards out. That being said it has to be used in the right conditions from the right places.
I bought the ChipR 2 years ago. In the meantime I learned to hit a wedge, but still carry the ChipR because sometimes it's the club that's working. Really like it.
Your first video on the ChipR sold me on buying one so thank you for that!!! I use my ChipR from 125 yards in. The only place I dont use it all the time is in the sand. Depending on the lie I will play that too!! Love my ChipR. James, here is my challenge to you. Play the chipper for the month in your normal golf from 125 yards in and see if you improve your game. Take the apprehension of using one out of the equation 😉
A suggestion - rather than put the 2nd and 3rd (etc.) balls on a fresh piece of turf, how about placing the extra balls just behind the start of the 1st divot? I was taught to do this on the driving range to ultimately generate one long divot rather than chew up the tee area. Just a thought :)
Bought one last week used it for the first time yesterday and chipped in from just off the green twice - and to within about 6” another couple of times. I managed to notch my best ever score of 80!
❤ my Ping ChipR. Handy for those tricky approach shots just off the green when you can’t pull the putter out. If you try and swing it like a putter you will have more success rather than swinging it like a wedge/iron
Very few courses I have been to in the U.S. have used clubs or are even that cluttered, more are spaced out with limited but very expensive items. I found some golf shirts at courses in St. Andrews that were much cheaper and nicer than most in the states.
My Dad taught me to use all my irons around the green for chipping, mostly 7i down through wedges. I usually grip down an inch for that. I do see the utility in one dedicated club a player could spend a bit of time with and feel confident running the ball up to the hole. He could control distance by length of backswing with a single club to get the desired distances.
Just wondering what the least amount of clubs you could get round with after seeing this James, if the chipper can do 8,9,PW & chipping distances then the set could be/ Mini driver-doubles as a 3 wood, Hybrid 20 degrees fairway finder & long par 3s, chipper-8,9,pw & chipping, then 56 sand wedge & putter- 5 clubs All in a pencil bag, I reckon you could score well with this set up, maybe even less clubs , would love to see it , thanks.
I carry the original Ping Chipo, and it is the most versatile club in my bag. I use it for chipping, pitching, and anything from 120 yards and in. It is the only club I have absolute confidence in. I just know it will perform. Sometimes I carry only 4 clubs, 5 wood, Chipo, GW, and putter.
As a mid to high handicapper I am often 5-10 metres off the green, I am super confident with my chip r and believe that every time I use it I I can chip in, which happens occasionally. I also use it for low shots out of the trees, but rarely from 50 metres plus
Hi James I have one of these and it replaced my u wedge, don’t really use it for short chips I prefer a 7 irion but love it from 50 to 100 yards and our short par 130 yards but the loft is the same as a 9 iron in g425 and length of Lob wedge in g425, love the car 👍
Would you drop a lob wedge to put this in the bag? My 58 is my most used club outside of the putter. I suppose I could get away with using the 54 in those situations, but being short sided and having to go over a bunker, I’d rather have the 58. My wife only plays 12 clubs and really struggles with chipping. She could definitely benefit from this.
I would like to Piggy back on the general theme of short game and deals on clubs. As I recall you really enjoyed the Mizuno S 23 wedges. I purchased an S 23 online from the PGA store for $119. And yes it is silky smooth.
There is a you tuber out there that searches for bargains and the likes the “square strike” chipper to hit full shots quite often and has it down. Works well for him.
I was a competitive golfer played in college and I still use 9 iron or pw around greens a lot. It’s much more consistent. Too many golfers use 60 degrees that shouldn’t. You are making the smart play.
Some Ferrari are cheaper than range rovers. Why is it so bad a successful content creator drives a nice motor. It’s helping the average golfer to know about this stuff. It’s unnecessary for us to see him get his clubs out of his Ferrari if it’s his or not is irrelevant really but if I could afford one I’d probably buy one 🤷♂️
What’s the point of getting a chipping iron with a 7 iron loft and a shorter shaft?? You already have a 7 iron, you just need to practice gripping it shorter…
I can't believe that you actually thought the Chipper was for anything more than around the green chip shots..... I have to think about what I just watched....

I’ve been using 7 clubs for a few years and my handicap never been lower. Driver, 3w, 4,7,9, gw, sw
I have the ping chip-r. Love it. Just chipped in from 25 feet on my last round.

Bobby such a great addition to channel 👍👍👍😂😂
Utility wedge sounds more appropriate

Agreed James. The name didn't seem to hurt sales, but calling it something like the Ping UI (Utility Iron) might have gotten it a wider consideration.
I was wondering what would be the better option, the chipper or the Eleven hybrid PW
Ping Chipr is 38.5 degree loft 8 bounce and 35inch shaft length, so like a 9 iron not 7 iron & not even retro 7 iron loft 😮
Not really retro loft is it?. My 9 iron is 41 degrees
@@thebutcher3520 Totally, I was referring to retro 7 iron lofts at 34-36 degrees.
I use a 7 iron all around the greens and even for putting with fantastic results.
@james keen to understand what GRIP do you use with the CHIPR? Putter grip vs standard iron grip? (from lets stay 10 yards off the green) ????
Would you drop a lob wedge to put this in the bag? My 58 is my most used club outside of the putter. I suppose I could get away with using the 54 in those situations, but being short sided and having to go over a bunker, I’d rather have the 58.

Tried a chip r at a local shop recently. Side by side comparison with a 9 iron. I could control distance much better with the chip r.

I have a chipr works really well in dry conditions
I have a chipper and used it alot when I was younger but only ever used it around the ground never more than 10m out tho
Have the Ping Chipper, am 76 years old and work very well for me
Bobby’s shank and then the grand tour clip was hilarious mate 😂😂
I’d like to see a review of the grey golf car with the horse badge ❤
There is a you tuber out there that searches for bargains and the likes the “square strike” chipper to hit full shots quite often and has it down. Works well for him.
Showing up to the golf club in a Ferrari!! Very nice.
Where I live in America the greens are slow, so I mostly chip with my 9 iron! I just make a stroke like a putt with it.
I was a competitive golfer played in college and I still use 9 iron or pw around greens a lot. It’s much more consistent. Too many golfers use 60 degrees that shouldn’t. You are making the smart play.
big flex on the Ferrari
I have one and on tight links course lies it’s a no brainer….great club 👌
It was fair windy Bobby😁😁😁😁Blowing left to right
Nice motor James!
Ferrari FF?😁
Lusso mate 🙌🏼👍🏼
You promote budget/2nd hand clubs yet you drive that 🙈
I have feeling James might be a very astute multi dimensional kind of guy.
Just casually flexes his Ferrari at the beginning. James you are a legend! Keep grinding
I think Cleveland’s new chipper beats Pings in every way.
I second this!!
Bobbys short game, we need to see more of it
How about the 7Chip? 7Wedge?
The Chedge ??
Just checked 40 degree loft
Whats the difference between this and a 7 iron ?
Shaft length, lie angle, weight and head shape
Oh yeah, love my ChpR
For someone who CANNOT chip the Ping ChipR has made such a difference from 30yards in...
lmaooooooooooo im laughing harder than hammand!!!
I have no use for a chipper. I use a wedge or my 8 iron
Budget clubs while getting out of a Ferrari. lol. SMH.
Some Ferrari are cheaper than range rovers.

@@castnoshadow82lr48 It was mostly a joke. You take it to serious.
@@jmac6631 mostly just not all though ay
the Cleaveland Chipper is still unmatched imo
Rescue wedge

Approach Wedge
now I see why you like a bargain on golf clubs. Helps you save money so you can spend it on your car! Nice!
Rescue wedge!
From that close to the green, I would use my 8 iron. Works just as good as a chopper.
Bobby just getting smashed for a shank! lolol
A utility wedge
Why not just use a 9 iron?
Love my chipr
C Wedge
"utility wedge" is the term you were probably looking for
Why not just choke down on your 7i rather than waste the 14 club limit on a ChipR?
There’s nothing funnier than a shank is there. 😂
Why not just go down the grip on a 7 iron ?
Lets talk about the Ferrari though
😂😂😂😂😂😂the ol' tom hank
Sack Bobby. I’ll start a campaign. Send me cash 😂
Sherm
can we talk about how he’s driving a ferrari
Love the Ferrari James
Ballsy parking a Ferrari next to some shitters
Vlog lol
When you only have 14 clubs, no room for a chipper. Grip down on your seven iron and save your money
2 videos in a row where you haven't played in a while....fake news 😂
Either that or we batch film
Your while might be very different from his 🙄
YOU go play in that wind! F that, I’d be at the range too.
Raymond Floyd would hand you an 8 iron😊
I have a chipper and used it alot when I was younger but only ever used it around the ground never more than 10m out tho
