      @normanbeaupre9122 I dont remember off the top of my head. Id think about an hour and a half with cleaning and such, maybe. 4cylinders arnt usually too bad.

    I just changed the spark plugs on my 2014 Mazda 6 and 1 of the 4 plugs had oil on it. Would it be safe to say that the most likely culprit would be the valve cover gasket (specifically the spark plug gasket)? Obviously, it's impossible to be sure without additional diagnostics, but just wondering if it would be worth changing the gasket first. I don't see any oil anywhere else in the engine bay.

      @@jgallone yep... valve cover gasket/spark plug tube seals. If the oil is ONLY on the bottom of the plug, it could be piston rings.

      @@MegaMilesBen Thanks for the quick reply. The oil is on the entire length of the plugs threads, up to the washer.

    Question here i have a mazda 6 2016 sport. I notice engine sludge above the alternator and what appears to be a thin coat of oil but i dont see any oil anywhere from the valve gasket. Also noticed my serpentine belt has a tiny tear which makes me believe that maybe the tensioner could be bad. Cause the sludge and thin coat of oil is right by the tensioner

      Theres no way I can pinpont a leak or belt problem without seeing it.

    • @bigkk758
      @bigkk758 7 місяців тому +1

      The belt tensioner has hydraulic fluid the seal may be shot. Easy fix just time consuming. WARNING take 30 seconds to release the tension or you will break the plastic bolt holders it’s hydraulic so it needs time to move the fluid but you can easily release tension with one hand while putting belt on or off

    Ever have the engine vibrate at idle? I replace the plugs and the valve gasket and had done the alternator, tensioner and serpentine belt two weeks ago no issues. I will test the coils tomorrow. Car drives and seems fine once at speed but shakes at idle. Coils, harmonic pulley or engine mounts are my next things to look at. I can test the coils and mounts but the harmonic pulley not so much but

      Could be many things. Nothing but a guessing game as youre playing without a proper diagnostics and definately not something I could pinpoint on youtube. Havent heard you mention the pcv valve or maf sensor.

      I have the same problem with you. While at idle engine vibrate. i changed all sparks and one coil which had problem but still i have the issue. i read a lot to find the solution and i think i need to clean the intake valve because probably there is carbon build up. Our engines are direct injection and its normal to build up carbon in intake vavles. I have Mazda 3 2.0l petrol 88000 km.

    Car started sputtering and had oil on spark plug so seal gave. I cant find the valve cover gasket at any auto parts store

  • @bigkk758
    @bigkk758 7 місяців тому +1

    Did you start it right away or let it sit for some hours for the gasket seal to fully set

    • @MegaMilesBen

      I normally dont have an issue with valve cover gaskets to put it back on the street when job is completed, its just a couple small dabs and theyd be set by the time everythings back togther. Oil pan gaskets I let sit overnight.

      Thanks that’s a big help. I just replaced the alternator, tensioner and belt and that was a job just for space. Car used oil about two month ago which was really odd. Then it was missing Thursday night so I realized I never changed the spark plugs at 75,000 and it’s at 119,000. Took first three out then last one closest to alternator had oil all over it so my guess was the gasket had been leaking for a while but since internal it would burn up before exhaust. I replaced the gasket today and the plugs but let it sit for now just to be safe. Biggest issue for me is I don’t have a torque wrench for inch only foot lb. Once I got them just snug I went about 1/4 to 1/2 turn farther. I will start it later today and see if it’s sales up good.
      I have watched a few videos on this job yours is by far the best. By the way not one auto parts store near me had that gasket in stock I had to buy it from a Mazda dealer but they didn’t charge a horrible price. Thanks again

      @bigkk758 you got it. That leak wouldve been coming from the part of the gasket that goes over the spark plug holes.
      I think youll be ok with hand torque, its a really light torque. Just watch it for leaks and tighten up if needed.
      You can get torque wrenches at harbor freight (I use them at home and they do great) for about $20 each. They run sales on them often too.
