imo Zapdos is basically the best OU pokemon of all time when you consider how good it is, how long it has lasted and the fact it's been there since the start. It has reached some pretty high heights too, basically being almost as good as Snorlax in Gen 2 (aka the most powerful OU mon of all time)
@giwrgospetrou1159bro doesn't know how much stronger a knock off is to a mon w an item is than just a crunch.120 bp compared to an almost 150 is a pretty meaningful difference plus you dont need to tera before getting a super strong stab in acro, so it can let you be a little more flexible with your set or just not having to rely on tera your roaring moon (I'm in the boat that it shouldnt be banned, im just saying how its chanced since the dlc).
I think it’s wild how pure HO and stall are the most viable play styles for OU because of how strong power creep is. I haven’t been playing as much, but it’s definitely been an interesting meta.
Some of these wouldn’t have survives had GF not given them new abilities (multiscale), typings (fairy for Clefable) or OP moves. In a way I’d say surviving is only for pokemon that have remained unchanged/can use the same items (boots) or mechanics (tera) as everyone else
95% got a new (Hidden) Ability, other Pokémon also got their typings revamped (Mr. Mime, Granbull etc). That doesn't automatically make them viable for VGC/Smogon. Boomburst, which is basically "Gen 1 Hyper Beam when KO'ing a Pokémon" (no recharge), is the best example for an OP move that didn't make any users great in the context of OU/VGC. I would kindly disagree with your approach.
@@enoyna1001 Many hidden abilities are either no better than the original ones or even worse. I was thinking of something like Azumarill that has been OU for long (now in UU but still viable in OU) thanks to being part fairy and getting huge power without them it would probably be in PU/ZU . Mr. Mime and Granbull would/should be middle evolutions at this point like they've done with some similar pokemon. They haven't given any normal boomburst users punk rock "to survive" power creep. Toxtricity this would be able to abuse it with tera if it had better speed.
Dragonite and Clefable were middling to bad Pokemon until they were revolutionized by Multiscale and fairy typing respectively; Zapdos, meanwhile, has been exactly as good in every generation for just about the same reason. What a well designed mon.
Those Toxapex, Manaphy, Zappos and Empoleon parts aged poorly. RU and UU. Perhaps the most surprising rises though, are Ribombee and Primarina. They practically not only beat the power creep, but also found the most success ever!
Floatzel is my favorite Gen 9 glow up, even though it’s because I just love Floatzel. Always thought people slept on it’s good Attack and fantastic Speed, but getting Wave Crash and Ice Spinner finally pushed it to being viable. Basculegion is probably better even without Last Respects, but Floatzel already has had its best Gen yet.
Goes to show that Game Freak had ultimately done Gen 2 dirty as early as it was introduced. There are good Pokemon from that generation, it's just none could hold up in OU through Gen 9's power creep... not even the mighty Tyranitar.
@@yoshibrothers9982 I think it's pretty funny that tyranitar immediately fell down to UU in gen 9. But azumarill, the longest lasting gen 2, actually put up a fight. Maybe even rising next month.

Lando-T stays immune to powercreep from a Doubles/VGC perspective since they have NO interest in entry hazards and would rather check physical attackers quickly considering Incineroar is insanely good in these formats.

Clef losing the status healing moves, teleport and toxic does hinder its ability to wish pass or just play support yes but it losing soft boiled tbh was that big of a deal when you consider both of the 2 moves would be 8 pp. The consistent recovery would be nice especially since snow is the most viable and common weather rn but since sun is still a viable and decent weather option playstyle if any clef being forced to use moonlight instead of wish sometimes is better for it. Clef still gets knock off, twave, rocks, cm and ofc moonblast which is pretty much most of what it used to succeed in past generations so don’t see that thing falling anytime soon tbh.
Either Pokémon’s gotta stop making broken mons or Smogon better prepare to do something different next gen, I don’t know what, but if they don’t gen 10 RU will look like gen 7 OU.

Amusing how Alomamola outclases multiple mons here yet is not listed since it is currently UU.
The OU tier is packed with water type. Bozo, Empoleon, Pex, Ogerpon, Manaphy, Samurott, Gren, Wake
I assume cause people havent caught up yet, after pinkacross team with alomomola I expect to see a rise of it in ladder
I think it'll rise up next month, to be honest. We just didn't have enough time to find out more about the meta.
Not really: Alo is Good but 'dual' attackers which are prevalent as ever in this Format can easily bypass it.
