That is such a well-timed video! I was literally planning to cough up and replace mine - didn't even think of painting them like that - guess what I'm doing this weekend now, thanks!
I replaced all the belt moldings yesterday on my 2010 IS250 AWD. I followed the steps in this video. Actually, it was a very fast process. It took about 20-25 minutes per each front door. One thing I'd like to point out is, you do not need to take off the rubber bumper and the rear section panel piece. Once you get the door panel off, you only need to remove the one front push clip for the window trim to be released slightly to gain access to the bolt for the triangle piece. The rear belt moldings are a breeze to replace and only take 15 seconds. Thanks for having this video as the initial guide to learn from. Now I know that removing the door panels on my Lexus is an easy process.
Well an early present this week. Well thanks for sharing the knowledge! I cannot wait to reat thru of how many say you did it wrong.. its always my favorite. Stay safe and be well Scott.
You have redone GM SUV headliners in the past. Would you please do a start to finish video covering it. I have to redo mine and your videos are an EXCELLENT reference material on what to do and what not to do.
8:35 I have looked on both your website and Amazon page and can not find a link to the Belt Molding Installation tool. Mine are the older model and very worn.
I would have hit it with a quick coat of matte finisher after the paint, gives it more protection and dulls the shine to match the rest of the trim better
That SEM Trim paint is a semi-gloss to begin with, which matches the trim on most cars. SEM also makes a full-gloss trim paint for those who believe that new paint should always be shiny. Those trim paints push the fact that it's "one & done". No primer or clear-coat required. It's far from being a new product as I was using it in the 1980s, so I can say that it adheres forever without peeling.
I’m here from your frame pulling videos. I’m currently in a twist with my past dads totaled 1998 f150 that was rear ended and totaled which is now a salvage title. No major or small shops want touch it because of title and some people just don’t have the time to deal with it. I’m currently thinking about taking a shot at it myself with the harbour freight hydraulic unit. I would love to get your insight from some pictures or something, if you think it’s worth doing or not
Shop could care less of the title status. Paid... that is what they are concerned about... getting paid. Most shops around here are running full tilt on insurance jobs and we're not even into summer hail season yet. I'll add one more comment on title status. It is a fiscal declaration. When a repair is worth near or more than the value of the vehicle it gets totaled. It has NOTHING to do with damage severity, nor suitability for repair.
You know, I Am not going to leave a comment, I Am going to watch everything You do to teach Me and Our People, weather You like it or not! And no I Am not leaving a comment!
Note. There’s a very strong likelihood that someone will have used a silicone trim polish and or treatment on the mouldings bumpers etc. This silicone crap is a total nuisance when trying to paint stuff and may not be fully cleaned off by wax and grease remover so extra cleaning and care is a must before painting. If you see a chalky residue built up on the dashboard and trim pieces it’s almost guaranteed that someone has used a silicone wax treatment on it.
Wow I was just discussing this issue on both Reddit and ClubLexus so this is great to see! If I could ask a question about that driver's door panel - Mine won't close the pocket door at the bottom fully on the left side (near the water bottle curve) it seems the previous owner pulled to hard. Thoughts on how to address it? Thank you for all of your videos and especially the phrase "bi*ch mittens" as a name for gloves because I've used it myself and made others laugh.
That’s the same question I have!! I’m looking through all the comments and you’re the first to even mention that. It looks like bro just cut it off and painted it. Are we missing something?
Yeah, so he cuts the rubber off and paints the chrome black. I believe the felt seal is still there to keep water and grime from running into the door. I cut mine off (didn’t worry about taking the trim off) and didn’t paint the chrome. It Still looks fine.
Lexus cars have been ugly for about a decade now. The ugly train hasn't reached the caboose yet. Scott doesn't make those nearsighted design decisions.
funny how some people advise to buy these "luxury" cars because they are "toyota" but it is never a good idea. buying this crap means paying luxury car part prices and prices are insane. they can keep their "luxury" crap

I had to do the same thing with the moldings on my '04 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Didn't know Lexus had the same issue!
Thanks a nice treat to see you on Wednesday!
$500 dealer upgrade! Looks amazing 🎉
Always great to see a special issue, especially when it includes using the belt moulding installation tool! Nice way of saving the mouldings
Thanks for sharing Scott.

This was a great break in the day! Always fun to learn something new and know it’s done right. See you Friday, maybe?
Really useful! I will try this on my RX330 and LX470. Thanks!

I like all of the speciality tools in your tool box. I will have to try some of the ones I have, Great video
Scott
job well done!
Such a beautiful car design.❤
I can’t afford a Lexus so that won’t ever be a problem for me 😅👍🏻🏴
Hello from the Netherlands.
thanks for the video Scott .
Sincerely Hollandduck
Nice! Love these 'quick fixes'! I'm wondering if the 'common problem' with the Lexus door guts is similar to those pesky Gran Am doors?
Now I can fix my 96 Camry trim.
I have to do my grand prix again the right way now!!
Nice. Good, practical tip.
8:35 I have looked on both your website and Amazon page and can not find a link to the Belt Molding Installation tool.

Great job!
This video is really Wütrh watching! (No pun intended)

Hello Sott ! My regards to Mr. Spotty .
That’s cool I never thought about that😅
great video thanks
So… is the process simply to cut off the rubber and paint it? No replacing the rubber with anything? Great video but I seem to be missing something…
Hey good tip, thanks for your efforts🤗😎🤗😎
I was planning to glue it back on only I do not know what kind of glue to use? Do you have maybe some recommendations?
You know, I Am not going to leave a comment, I Am going to watch everything You do to teach Me and Our People, weather You like it or not! And no I Am not leaving a comment!
Nice one scott
Great Job!!! Thank You... :-)

Have you ever repaired/refinished a "melted dashboards" I'm an IS?
Wow! I saw that van in the background and thought you were getting all of your auto parts from Tommy-Boy....
Great content does Mr spoty work for you still

I saw the post on reddit about this as well, touch wood mine are still fine
Wonder if the same supplier that made these also made the crappy dash pads in these cars.
Are you back from the beach?
So you didn’t replace the rubber seal itself? You just cut the rubber seal off and painted the chrome black?
That’s the same question I have!! I’m looking through all the comments and you’re the first to even mention that. It looks like bro just cut it off and painted it. Are we missing something?

Good Idea. Thanks
Is it worthwhile to use an adhesion promoter ?
Hey Scott !
Hey Rick 👋
Can you believe I have a Camry with the same issue!
Early edition? Or bonus edition?
Liked it!
Wiser Wallet Wednesday? :)
I thought you weren't allowed to paint.
They left the spray cans, unattended! 😂
Did Mr. Spotty retire to the Caribbean with all his millions?
A lot of work to fix a defective product!
I just wonder when Toyota is gonna redesign the Lexus' front end. They're so ugly! +1 Like
Lexus cars have been ugly for about a decade now. The ugly train hasn't reached the caboose yet. Scott doesn't make those nearsighted design decisions.
Beats paying $200 for new ones.
4!
Well, why not just cut/trim the piece that is peeling and leave it like that!
It wouldn’t match the rest of the window trim that way
Mr spotty
👍👍👍👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello
You fool! It’s best to use a rubberized spray coating which better matches the factory coating In that it will peel right off in short order
funny how some people advise to buy these "luxury" cars because they are "toyota" but it is never a good idea. buying this crap means paying luxury car part prices and prices are insane. they can keep their "luxury" crap
I see you abused 'tapey's' family to do this job...
Moldings can be replaced without dismantled whole door. Just pull it out , believe me.
