My "new" (factory packaged) hp 7550 CRT monitor i got from a recycling center was fuzzy, i adjusted the middle focus screw and it became much better, but is is still a little bit fuzzy :) Next il do some overclocking, hopefully it can go past my hp M783s running 1024x768i@160hz...
hello, i just got a crt monitor from my neighbour and it's still working but out focus because of many years of idling however, i'm afraid of disassembly it as i don't really know much about electric stuffs is there any tips for disassembling a crt?
I have a 90s Magnavox tv. I want it next to me hdtv because it's much better for old games, like snes and such. when I turn it on it's too dark to play games. as it heats up, colors and whites get bright enough, but blacks are still very dark. Example... if I'm outside in the sun in a game it looks fine but inside it's too dark. will this tutorial help?
CRT's provide blacker than black blacks, you can't do anything about it. The reason why it isn't as dark outside is because it's lighting up the phosphors making the black brighter.
thank you so much for the great video , i will see more , my tv have blue horizontal lines but the brightness is good , and the black is good too , the horizontal lines appear more clear at the startup of the tv but after 15 to 20 min the lines become less and i can see the lines only in black/dark image ,( i did the fix carefully that you mentioned from the little board ( fucuse and screen ) but the lines sometimes will go and some times if i turn the tv on i need to wait more time to get image ? my question is : 1- if i start the tv why i need to wait 15 to 30 or more to get the true brightness /black or colors ,i need fix please, 2-what cause the horizontal lines and what is the fix ? 3- i wish my tv have more contrast because the contrast is still low even if set it to 100 , if i tried to turn the contrast up from 35 to 100 nothing happen and still the same , but if i turn dawn contrast from 35 to less i can see the picture become darker ! is this problem can be fix and the tv have a chance for high contrast again ? the TV is "sony trinitron 32 inch sd curve widescreen" from 1995 or 1996 japan made, this is rare tv that's why i think its worth to fix and keep , thank you so much and sorry for my poor English .
I had to increase my screen's sub contrast pretty high to make the picture not look washed out in a brightness that wasn't unacceptably dark. Video looks great and so do games, but the new issue that I am having is that some straight vertical lines now appear distorted, like they curve, this only really happens in pause menus, not an issue during video or gameplay. Is this particularly bad for my screen, are there any repairs that I should get done to it to remedy this, or is this just a sign of the tube getting old, its from 1989. I want this screen to last me 10-13 more years, is the degree of contrast that I've added going to kill it before that?
hello again. So I got a pretty good quality 19" Philips CRT from somewhere around 2004-2005, the owner used it for a few years than he put it aside, basically it's not damaged at all, but there's a.. I'd say mid frequency noise, not high freq like many old TV's used to have but something between low and very high which can be heard near the flyback; and then the other noise you can hear coming right from the flyback but it's louder and if you increase the refresh rate like to 120hz it will sound as if it's going to explode, also If i wear a headphone I can hear the interference inside my laptop when it's turned on, because the top of my laptop is made of aluminium any advice?
look for a micro arc between the flyback and some ground heatsink if that is the case the flyback is damage and it need to be replaced. be super careful that can kill you or get electrocuted ;-)
if I continue to use without fixing anything, can it cause any harm to the environment and the tube itself? in other words can it burn down my entire room and apartment?
B. Eltz if you keep using it like that it most likely will stop working when the flyback dies completely if you live here in USA you can get one CRT for free or 5$
hey thanks for all the information although I didn't manage to properly tweak the focus, maybe it's because the tube is old? it's a 2003 samsung syncmaster monitor
GabakUSA Free computer training unfortunately lowering the brightness makes the screen more blurry, I also noticed that the middle of the screen is more blurry than the corners of the screen and also the screen twitches sometimes and when it does, you can hear the noise coming from the tube if your room is quiet again thanks for all the help I'll probably just buy a new one, crt's are very cheap
B. Eltz you are welcome. yes you can get them for free in craigslist sometimes or get LCD for 10$ in LETGO app o any garage sale ;-) at least it was a good experience ;-)
Nice video !! So i have a CRT screen that is a bit blurry and i want to focus it, but i dont really want to kill myself ... haha Do you think its safe to only focus and calibrate the brightness ?
+silasr sillithius if you do exactly what i show in the video you won't have any issue. be careful or you can unplug everything and make small adjustments with no electricity
Thank you for this good information, researching CRT maintenance and repair is like finding ancient civilization history.
lol yes I know
I am glad it helped
Your brightness and contrast tips made a big difference on my Sony Trinitron Crt Television.

2-what cause the horizontal lines and what is the fix ?
3- i wish my tv have more contrast because the contrast is still low even if set it to 100 , if i tried to turn the contrast up from 35 to 100 nothing happen and still the same , but if i turn dawn contrast from 35 to less i can see the picture become darker ! is this problem can be fix and the tv have a chance for high contrast again ?

sometimes the tube is worn out and there is nothing you can do.
if you can get an LCD it is more healthy for your eyes no radiation
