    What do you wear to help regulate your body temperature?

      I also wear sweatshirts when I'm cool/cold, as I live in Ontario, Canada. I prefer L.L. Bean sweatshirts over all others due to warmth and durability. I use exactly the same techniques as you do to put on and take off my sweatshirt. C5-6 quad here.

    Thank you, Mason. I have a degenerative condition on top of my incomplete quadriplegia, but when I still had some kind of stamina in my hands, I crocheted a custom poncho for myself. I moved the hole for the head closer to one end (centered about 1/3 down the length) to just barely cover my back without bunching up and still drape over my lap like a blanket. I made it wide enough to sort of fall around my torso without spilling out of the seat. I added a hood and made sure to allow for airflow while still keeping covered. The construction is very simple. Two long rectangles sewn together (except for the hole for the head) for the poncho, and a smaller rectangle crocheted directly into the back of the head hole to whatever size is most comfortable, then sewn at the top.

    As it gets colder I wear some thick knee high wader socks and some winterized high top shoes with either my shorts or pants depending if I'm gonna inside or outside. I used to always wear shorts with the socks so that I could still reach my leg bag easily but I've changed my drain bag to come out from my waistband and then attach with a magnet to the side of my wheelchair thigh support, so I can wear pants now without it covering my bag. Then usually I use a Poncho and long sleeve I can flip the poncho off when I'm indoors or getting too warm. I'm kind of large and I had a hard time keeping my hoodies down, they kept creeping up above my back and belly as I fidget in my chair.

    great topic, I always bring or am wearing hoodies and some of my friends wonder why, even when the temperatures are nice, and I always have to explain I can't regulate my body temperature very well. For me, its easier to put my hoodie on since I'm a T7 and a minor C5 incomplete.

    Is basking in the sun like a cold-blooded reptile something you can do to warm up?

    • @masonx54
      @masonx54  4 роки тому +1

      Yes and it feels amazing! But I also have to be careful not to get too hot since I can't sweat like normal.

    When I am at home I use a pillow made of cherry's seeds around my neck. You put 3 minutes in the microwave and it is nice and warm for an hour. Regards from Italy

    I fractured my big toe once when putting a sweatshirt on - one of the sleeves wrapped around the joystick and sent me flying into a wall! now i ALWAYS turn off my chair, or at least hit the mode button, so bumping the joystick doesn't do anything :^)

      Holy! When I saw the preview of this comment, I was wondering how can you break a toe when putting a sweatshirt on? Now it makes sense!

    i get super bad neuropathic pains in my legs...which gets worse if my feet are cold, so I wear super heavy fleece knee highs and I put them on with a sock aid.

      That's how my neck is, which is why I always have my hood up.

    I enjoy your videos! Please don’t take this as any type of criticism, but it appears that you sit slouched in your videos. Is that something you do intentionally?

      I don't sit slouched that I know of. What makes you think that I sit slouched in my videos?

      Mason Ellis Hi, more just an observation, but noticed in this video when you leaned forward that there is quite a gap between your butt and the seat back. I believe it is often referred to as sacral sitting. Again, not a criticism, as it obviously works for you!

    • @masonx54
      @masonx54  4 роки тому +2

      I just watched the video and see what you were talking about. From what I can tell, the seat cushion goes back underneath the back rest of my chair further than my butt can. Therefore, it appears as if I am not scooted all the way back but in reality I am.
