Actually rhis song is a collaboration with a theme park that uses a classical music piece called Danse Macabre by Saint Saens, which Epica covered in their own magical way. Found the following description about the song: Epica and the largest theme park in The Netherlands and Europe’s second-most visited theme park, Efteling, collaborate on an unforgettable tribute to the Danse Macabre! The new song “The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre)” is inspired by the magical melody of the iconic Efteling attraction that will open on October 31st.
Classical music by Saint Saëns reinterpreted by Epica in their awesome collab with Dutch themepark the Efteling. Some trivia: The current "Danse Macabre" attraction is the upgrade of its predecessor called "Spookslot" (Haunted Castle). None other than Kate Bush sang at the official opening in 1978 (orig video on YT). She earned herself an Efteling tombstone (the Epica tombstone is a clear reference, as is the white dress Simone's wearing). Here's Kate's video: "Kate Bush (Efteling) - original recording 1978 • TopPop". Both tombstones are part of the graveyard that the public gets to visit on their way tt Abbey. There's also several "cameos" 5:56 The singing monks are: Jeroen Verheij (r), designer at the Efteling & Joost van den Broek (l) of Ayreon/After Forever/etc fame and also Epica's producer. Simone's yellow/blue eyes are a reference tt children's book "Danse Macabre" by Dutch writer Paul van Loon. Coen Janssen's wife Linda is also in the choir. Their son Pepijn Janssen is one of the two kids, lured into the Abbey by Simone. Then there's another legendary Dutch songster, Anneke van Giersbergen (the godmother of "female fronted" hardrock/metal and inspiration for Simone, Floor etc) doing several collabs with the Efteling. In 1997, The Gathering used music from an Efteling attraction in one of their songs (Nighttime Birds). In 2011 Anneke lend her voice tt soundtrack of "Ravelijn", another Efteling attraction. And in 2015 she provided the "Witte Wieven" vocals (ghostly mythical creatures, associated with mist) for another attraction "Baron 1898" (a dive coaster). The Efteling is high class spooky metal 🤘(and it predates Disney)
Epica the musical, i have been waiting for that for several years 😁. Love this song, so happy when Epica goes outside their normal sound and giving us something different.
this is a collaboration between Epica and the Efteling theme park (the second most visited in Europe) and this song is also an interpretation of the classic piece by Camille Saint-Saëns "danse macabre", strange that the melody did not seem familiar to you 😁 anyway, this is not typical Epica, but I think it is very cool when a band can do both heavy and complex stuff and "Disney" metal equally well 😁
I hope that you know, or will check out, the ORIGINAL song. I will point you to the rabbit hole: The original is Danse Macabre, by Camille Saint-Saëns, written in 1875(!). This song is a (very well done) reinterpretation of that. Also (I don’t want tot go in too much detail) it is firmly engrained into Dutch culture. The attraction, which uses the same music, replaces an old (45yrs) attraction ‘het Spookslot’, with the same theme. One of the iconic set-pieces is a yellow, floating violin. The old Spookslot was opened with Kate Bush singing. All this points back to tales from the Middle Ages, where the stories were built about dancing with the Dead. De Efteling is a THEME park like no other. IMO one of the best (and oldest) in the world. Do they have the ‘fastest’ coasters? The ‘tallest drops’? No, they don’t. De Efteling are not about that. They are STORY TELLERS. A day at De Efteling will put you in a world of old (not Disneyfied!) European folk tales and local myths. You really should view some videos from vloggers who went there. Especially Americans are often delighted to learn of the fairy tales of old, but not in the Disney way, but in their original, and often darker, form…
I know Don Quijote 😂 I think what Antonio was referring to is the classical piece that this is based on , The Danse Macabre That theme is very recognizable They played this live in their concert with orchestra that they streamed last month and I believe they will release it soon
The Danse Macabre theme park ride has gone live today, you can see video's of that now. there are a lot of hints to that and to the previous theme park item the Haunted Castle that it replaced. When the Haunted Castle was build Kate Bush actually recorded some clips there. When this ride was build to replace the Haunted Castle, Epica said... US THIS TIME PLEASE!!!
Great to see them guys in great shape. Honestly these green screened parts with just hands playing instruments somewhat resembles me the Innuendo from Queen.
As a proud Dutchie I just wanted to share the original music from this attraction. I've been to the Efteling since I was a little girl and it's the most incredible amusementpark. The Efteling and Epica has done an amazing job with this collaboration. The music still reminds me of the older attraction but with a new modern touch....simply love it! ua-cam.com/video/wq6w4MkyK-0/v-deo.htmlsi=ZmtdvjbuJGAx4686

Stop with the Nightwish comparisons, would you? Also, give them a break! This is not a typical EPICA song, it's a collaborative project for the 2nd largest theme park in Europe. You can say Efteling is the horror Disneyland of Europe. So much blabbering about the song. You failed to consider that this is a Halloween related song and a song meant to be reinterpret a classical piece, "Dance Macabre" in the EPICA fashion! On the fence if you see the live video, oh please? The very first time they played this song, it was played by a symphony, choir, a large number audience and a grand venue. You do not underestimate EPICA.

It's not the second most visited theme park in europe but I guess that don't matter its definitely one of the best ones
@@platinumsandtrophies8625Yes it is the second most visited theme park in Europe.

They played this at their symphonic synergy shows in Amsterdam. Was there on the 19th all the way from Nebraska and it was worth everything and more!!

You should definitely watch the live version with full orchestra and choir!
#2 trending in Netherlands!
I like the comparison with Michael Jackson´s Thriller. The horror spectacle feeling is spot on here.
This is like a fun side attraction, there'll be music from the new album soon enough. Pure Halloween fun.
Venez à Montréal, guys. ;-)

El nuevo fantasma de la opera, esta versión inicia con el final de la versión original, ya hay una versión cantada del poema sinfónico original.

I like the instrumentals but the vocals remind me to much of Theron 😬
