- In this video, Director Vasanth talks about composing session of song "Mannil Indha Kaadhal" from the movie Keladi Kanmani. He also shares about his working experience with Ilayaraja. He adds about the interesting incidents during first meeting of Ilayaraja and Director K Balachander.
Vasanth is an Indian film director and screenwriter, working in the Tamil film industry. Following a stint as journalist and after assisting K. Balachander, he made his directorial debut with Keladi Kanmani in 1990, which along with the trendsetting Aasai (1995), are considered his finest and most successful films. Known for being realistic, his films have been described as a "middle path" between parallel and commercial cinema, revolving around social themes and relationships.
Keladi Kanmani (lit. Listen, sweetheart) is a 1990 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Vasanth in his directorial debut. The film stars S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and Raadhika. It was a commercial success, running for over 285 days at theatres. The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The song "Nee Pathi Naan Pathi" is based on the raga Chakravakam. The entire soundtrack (except for the song "Mannil Indha Kaadhal") was completed in 45 minutes. "Mannil Indha Kaadhal" has Balasubrahmanyam appearing to sing two stanzas without taking a single breath in between the lines. The song is set in the carnatic raga known as Keeravani.

Obviously, ஆத்மார்த்தமான speech by Vasanth. It is indeed amazing to hear of Raja's capacity, hardwork and productivity. And it is not surprising that someone of the generation to which Vasanth belongs should be in awe of the great composer. But we should not lose our perspective in our admiration. It is intriguing that all the unique qualities as a composer that Vasanth sees in Raja, have been noticed in equal measure in MSV and put on record by directors and other technicians of an older generation ! So, while we can understand people of a generation finding Raja the greatest, unequalled etc., on objective analysis, we can understand that Raja was carrying on a great tradition from MSV ( who in turn had his illustrious predecessors ), imparting it the flavour and stamp of his own genius. That there is a channel in the name of Ilayaraja and Rehman, doesn't mean that we should forget what these two have learnt and received from their forerunners, especially MSV and G.Ramanathan. Ilayaraja and Rehman themselves have clearly accepted their indebtedness to MSV at least, in public. May this tradition be carried on by future generations of great MDs !

Yes he composed thiruvasagam, Royal Philharmonuc Syhmphony, Hey Ram, Naan Kadavul, Thaarai Thappattai were composed when he was in coma!
oh ya... there's more Kannukkul Nilavu, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Bharathi, Kasi, Azhagi, Ivan, Pithamagan, Virumandi, Mumbai Express ... all he composed after he died in the 90s.

Now I am 53. From 1975 to 82 his tunes were extraordinary. Those times I was attracted towards him like an iron piece against a magnet. After that his pattern turned to stereotypic till now. At the same time I have observed MSV's compositions. It is very marvellous. He was a composer from mid.50s. Till 1982 he has created a large number of songs with lot of patterns and styles which IR failed after 82. MSV has survived his career soundly after 7 years of IR's entry. After that also he has delivered some private albums and worked little movies which were also good. But IR has fallen within 2 years after ARRs entry. IR's massive hits are ended upto 1995. After that only scattered hits he can delivered. That too after 2000 almost in single digit. I write this as far I have observed. Undoubtedly IR is a very good music director but not so versatile. He has presented music mainly based on Ragas from which even a professional musician can learn technical aspects . But out from Ragas his creativity is poor.

@@ramkumarh9312 Is sindhu bhairavi songs still impressive now? Now it is in the row of IR's hits. Most IR's hits during 75 to 82 are still live green and also very impressive. Of course, few hits are there after 82 which are still lovely. Quality wise both MSV and IR are good. MSV ever dragged out of quality.

He cannot be compared with anyone he is way way miles above than others those who have listened his music will not analysis like this btw my age is 35.
