At 22 I left home and my life got much better, honestly the best time to leave is if you’re done school and working making solid income, flap your wings and fly. Leaving home doesn’t mean you don’t see the family again, it changes the whole dynamic and the entire routine day to day.

@@heyyou4688 “make friends” that won’t ever matter in the long run. Best time to move out is when you’re stable and can build yourself up. Once you’re financially free. Then you can build a family and maybe take care of your parents to pay back what they’ve done for you and keep a strong extended family. Or at least that’s what I’m trying to do by the time i have a family. Trust me, once they see you visibly grow with with the amount of responsibility you’ve taken your parents will most likely give you all the responsibility and let you do you. They won’t appear as naggy as they once were because they’ve done all the stressing for years and are over it.

I want to move out too man. I feel bad. I feel like I'm not a real man due to the fact I still depend on my parents. I will be sad when I leave my parents but on the bright side I'm not thinking about moving far away from them. The problem is I'm going to school and I don't think I'm capable of working at the same time and be able to keep up with the workload I get for school. Only time I could work is in the summer. I'm graduating this year so I'm planning on moving out next year. The rent in California is high but I'm gonna stick around here for while than move out to a different state.
@@shadow-man8715 dude, don’t feel bad. The US is the most individualistic country in the entire world, but that doesn’t mean that it’s world/cultural views are correct. Are people in other countries not men because they don’t have (and have never had) American ideals? Of course not! That being said, you can’t be extremely lazy if you live with your parents. At that point it’s detrimental. For example, if you’re 18-22 and wait until you graduate college to leave, that’s perfectly ok. Or, you could be learning a trade or skill. As long as you are improving yourself or doing something productive, don’t feel ashamed.
You don't want to be a mooch, however, living with parents can be a huge financial jumpstart for young people. Pay your fair share, but try to build as big of a cash pile as possible and develop discipline before you move out, you'll have a huge advantage.
In my case, it's a financial burden. Not much in savings and in debt because my fam can't seem to pay for bills on time and don't bother to help with groceries or house hold necessities. Getting married in a couple months and they will have a rude awakening once I leave home.
No privacy, also in America evryone has a separate bedroom of their home and big houses , here in India we live in box houses, I hate it , no privacy
@@JV-bc8um Same here, I help pay the whole family phone bill that’s around 300* and wifi etc on top of that they ask me for more money that I can have in my savings, I literally had 5k saved up but they need it. I bought a 2015 Dodge Charger cash but after I got my saving back up all gone but I love my parents but I need to move out already, I have discipline with bills and money management but living with them and helping them all the time will burden me.
honestly investing is better at the young age than regular saving up especially with how fast inflation is increasing

staying home if you have a good relationship with family can be a great kickstarter. I stayed and saved over 30k in 2 years. I paid all of my expenses, contributed by picking up the phone, electric bill and some groceries here and there; which (in comparison to $1100-1300 rent where I live) is easy to budget for. I was pretty much able to put away one paycheck in savings and use the other for bills and expenses every month. I also used this time to over pay on my student loan

@@Suave26 I honestly don't have a definitive answer, but from what I can tell, females are used to being told what to do by someone else, and men are not, little boys are, men aren't. I can only speak for myself, i'm 18 and I do not want to take orders from no body. I know what's good for me and I will do it. i'm not a dumb kid who needs to be told what to do or else he'll hurt himself. so i wanna move out of my parents' home to be free. girls get told what to do when they're young just like boys, but when we're adults husbands tell their wives what to do the whole time and it's been like that since the birth of humans
I feel like the faster you accept responsibility is the faster you become an adult no matter what age you are. I swear I became the most happy when I became self sufficient. There’s nothing more fulfilling then listening to your self and supporting yourself. I recently just did a video on the same topic pretty sure y’all will like it. Much love ❤️
I disagree, I would like to say I’m pretty responsible for the most part and I still live at home 21 I don’t make that much, trying to make more. If I moved out I would probably just barely maybe be able to pay all the bills each month rent utilities insurance everything. Why would I do that, just be able to get by and not be able to save, rather than be able to have fun save close to all my money living at home with my mom. Eventually I will have a lot of money saved up to almost buy a house cash. You tell me what’s better. I am working on getting a better income. To each their own though. Edit: also didn’t mention I get along great with my mom and family. I feel closer to her than a lot of other people feel to their moms. She is amazing and I am grateful that she is my mom. It gives us a better family dynamic
@@richardcarlson8272 that’s good stuff actually. In our culture, we can’t abandon our parents, and we are responsible in taking care of them when they get older. They worked hard to give birth and take care of us, and we aren’t even supposed to scoff at them when they say something we don’t like, simply because they are our parents. It stems from religious teachings etc. but I’m glad I learned these values and wouldn’t mind sharing a house with my parents for my whole life.

@@DiamondScuff I’m the Richard account. I get that, I also get paying bills and things, which is why I’m trying to stay with my mom for a while so I can be financially stable when I do move out. My plan is to have around 200k and no consumer debt when I move out
There's a BIG difference between a 40 year old living in his mom's basement playing video games all day doing nothing, & a recent college grade, or someone older who just doesn't make enough to get a place of their own, but they work, pay their own bills, help around the house, etc.

My advice as a mid 40’s man. Stay home for awhile but save 50% or more of your income. Don’t blow all your money. Bank it then make a move

Matie stay at home at 21 and keep saving really REALLY hard rice and beans no fancy restaurants no car leasing etc by the time you are 25 you will be financially independent and you can start a decent life! Good luck

Yeah, I agree with that, too. Although, realistically, he's not going to be financially independent at 25. But I think staying home for at least another year and saving hard would be a good idea. 5K savings doesn't go far even in moderate cost areas like Tampa.

Nothing wrong at all...but if its no solid end game..trying to move on from it can be difficult. Plus this country in general is a high cost of living and those that become a hindrance make it more difficult.
Being 19 now I can confidently say i wish i wasn't such a knucklehead 2 years ago, if you're a 15 or 16 year old reading this and you're wondering what the best thing to do is, get a job now it doesn't even have to be a great one, washing dishes, stocking shelves or really anything, if you just subside off of mostly food from home and are able to control your spending habits unlike I was you can be sitting on 40,000 $ in 2 years, looking back on it I really wish I would've taken this approach, once you start stacking up piles of 20$ it gets addicting to save your money

I’m 16 and I’m just working during the summer making 1000 a paycheck about. I invest 500 every paycheck into my Roth IRA. I only eat my moms food and my only consistent expense is gas for my truck. I just don’t know what I’m gonna do with college. I refuse to take on debt so community college it is. I’ll probably get scholarships but unless it’s a free ride I’m going the cheap route.

Moved out at 18 my brother moved out the first time before 18. I wonder how easy life would have been if we had a stable home life but whatever. It was stressful but also fun to do things on my own mostly
I know 35 year olds with the same mentality living with their parents seems like they are scared to move out and spend money on traveling and restaurants
After graduating college I never moved back home. I actually planned to but I just never did. I was still able to save 20k one year after graduation and keep up with my finances.
The trick was I lived below my means. I didn’t live at home but I did have roommates and my rent was never over $600 a month.

I agree with what Mr.Ramsey is saying regarding saving an emergency fund and thinking about what to do at 31 or 41. But I don't think that just because the caller is 21 and has things going well for him financially is a reason to move out. The caller needs to be prepared and mature enough to face the other responsibilities and even challenges on this own.

Literally my brother. He’s 28 and still smooches of mom and dad. He claims he does it because everything’s expensive and he just wants to save money, which would be ok if he at least did his own chores, which he doesn’t. He still acts like a little boy and leaves a mess all throughout the house and demands others to clean it up. He’s annoying he’s almost 30, bearded and balding I don’t know why he’s afraid of being a man and having his own place. He makes like $70k, only gives dad like $200 for “rent” and calls it a day. Whenever he buys pizza he makes it a big deal that he’s buying food for everyone when it’s just 1 box of medium sized pizza lol.

In Hawaii, multigenerational homes are the norm. Part of it is cultural, most of if it's cost. A one person household making 80k can qualify for some low income apartments being built.
Hawaii cost of living is no joke! Many can make it on thier own. Some other states are starting to be the same way that dont have a high cost of living because of the inflation of the country
I would say it depends on your relationship with your parents and your goals. Save and pay off debt if you get along with your parents. If you don’t get along with your parents then move out and move on.
I live in Orange County California where a 1 bedroom apartment costs $2K/month. I pay my mom $500/month to live at home and pay for everything else. I’m currently putting $15K into a 401K and $15k into an index fund investment account.
Houses costs $1M so it’s going to take me a while to save up enough for a down payment.

I am pretty sure you arent in the us becuase 5k a year is 416$ a month which can't be right since the minimum wage is waaay mire than that if so dont worry the us is an expensive place to live in so they also have higher wages all that matters is the cost of living relative to tour income so make some calculations and your good to go
@@A--lex yes I live in Malaysia. Where minimum wage is MR1200 ($277) per month. I once work as security guard, the salary is MR70 ($16) per day for 12 hours of work.

A parent who depends on adult children due to illness or old age is not at all the same situation as an adult child who is aimlessly mooching off of their parents.
If your parents are mooching off of you, or didn't save for retirement because they assumed you'd take on some obligation to derail your life so you can fund the final third of theirs, well... that's a pretty f****d up situation. They didn't have to be financially responsible during their adulthood because "hey! That's what kids are for - to pay us reparations just for bothering to have them in the first place."
I digress.
More than likely though, truly ill and elderly parents just "don't want you to leave" because, welp, they love you and they're freaking dying. If all they want is to spend the end of their lives around you and maybe their grandbabies, then I'd say that's actually pretty sweet. When my grandmother died, I remember my mom said she would do anything to go back and sacrifice a few years of her independence if it meant those few years could be spent with her dying mother. Right now a few years may seem like a huge chunk of time for us adults to just give away to our parents simply because they're old now, but once they're gone, like in-the-dirt-and-never-coming-back gone, a few years feels so insignificant in comparison to the eternal permanence of their absence.

I think if you have a good relationship with your parents you should continue to live with them. Why not? If they are willing to help you save up money and you are putting your fair share into the bills go for it. Your parents are a blessing and one day they won’t be there anymore. So enjoy and make the most of it. Just having that option is a blessing in it of itself.

I'm 19 and I'm moving out tomorrow because there is no job at my city . At least I found out that some of my "friends" are not real friends because they ignored me saying that I'm moving
I'm going 24 and I'm still at home, unfortunately renting in Ireland makes moving out impossible with rents in limerick averaging 1200 euros per month. Dublin is worse with rents reaching 2000/2500 a month. The minimum wage might be 10.15 but if your working 40 hours a week to get roughly 420 then it almost takes three weeks working full time to able to afford your rent every month. I honestly see no other opinion but to leave Ireland and get a job abroad if I want to be able to afford living independently. I don't want to work 5 or 6 days a week to just get by on rent each month, I want to work to live and so I can go to work, enjoy it and not constantly be worried about the bills that they stacked on top renters in Ireland. Very few properties have their monthly Bill's covered in the rent. Unless you have a high income in this country then moving out it is extremely difficult.

I live in India where most people in their late teens and early 20s unless they're moving to a different city for better education. For a typical middle-class family here, staying in the same city and house with your parents and working a job is pretty common so it reduces overall expenditure and increases savings. However, as we move up the social ladder, the children are at liberty to choose what they would prefer to do. So all in all, the best time to move out of your home would probably be when you can afford to do so.
Yes bro same with Hispanic its very common seeing adults still with at their parents houses it's just a cultural thing a lot of non whites share.
In 2023, it is no longer as simple to purchase a place of your own. I know many people criticize the younger genreations for living at home with their parents into their mid 20's, but you almost have to in order to save enough money for a down payment on a home. My parents also were on board with me saving up for a home instead of wasting my money on rent for an apartment. I am now 30 getting ready to get married, have a place of my own and we both have full time jobs with finances not being a concern. It isn't always a bad thing living with your parents a little bit after college. In fact, if your parents are gracious enough to allow that, I would recommend that strategy rather than living paycheck to paycheck at 20 years old wasting your money on an apartment. Buying a house is a much better investment.
Not everybody in the world were raised by caring parents and who are understanding of the economic situation in the present. If I had had the career and savings I have today 10 to 15 years ago, I would have my own home. We are required more just to qualify to rent a studio. A lot of the older generations were lucky to have purchased their homes when everybody could afford to.

I don't agree with encouraging young adults to go rent if it's working living at home he should stay and save for a purchase. He can actually help more than hurt the family and himself which in turn helps his family in the long run.

At 35k/year you can live comfortably in Tampa, FL, provided that you are debt free. I've researched apartments there at they are fairly cheap for a 1 bedroom.

It's becoming an adult in American culture. Once you are out of high school and go on to college you move out, but now a days some are still living at home with their parents while attending college. It can be seen as a bad thing, because of social stigma, but what ever works for you
If you find a way to make money somehow at young age, this would be good part of your culture. I live in Turkey. I left the home at 13 cuz my highschool has the campus where you can live as scholarship . now Im 21 and I turn back to my home cuz my university is so close to here and even if I have the money , my parent doesnt encourage me to leave home. My parent's culture is so irrational in some situation and it seems we will have big conflict at this month

After a certain age, it's time to go, unless is a different certain situation and circumstances, but most should be on their own after 18 to young 20s I think, I was out in early 20s and never moved back home, and I love it. Im moving out but I was able to get into grad school, fully funded program. They pay for my tuition, housing and stipend for living expenses. It takes a huge load off my parents while I study to get my phd in Chemistry. Ill be having my own plce for a good 5 years and hopefully land a job after my degree work and make the move to a house instead of a one room apartment. Go at your own pace kids! Build a proper long term career. Flipping burgers will not pay a mortage or take care of more than one person in the long run. Dont give in to the peer pressure of society telling you to do something just for the sake of doing something.

I’m 19 working full time at Jersey Mike’s at two different locations. I’m am a key holder at both stores. I get 402-45 hours a week and get paid bi-weekly. I make 11.5 an hour. I don’t mind living with my mom and stepdad but my grandma lives there and so do my two sisters, two niece, one nephew. My girlfriend works full tim at Duncan doughnut and is getting a big raise soon or switching jobs to go work at the bank. I just want some privacy

I think that’s very good. I would not move out in my opinion until u have you’re debts paid off a emergency fund and save a down payment for a house. This does not mean once u have this u have to move out right away, but I would at least do this. It good to help out your parents especially since their not financially stable. If I were u I would not get an apartment, that’s just my opinion (unless you’re gonna buy an apartment complex). To me I would rather help my parents, that also means paying less than what you would if u moved out on your own. But to me the biggest thing is personally I do not want to rent only want to buy a house or rental complex. To me renting is wasting money rather have the money go into equity in a house than to just be used on rent
Do what you want honestly, I don't know how old you are but getting out there and adulting is so important so you should keep that in mind. Is there any way they can become financial stable or work more or something. It's so tough situation but it sounds like (even if it's not their intention) that they are holding you back. Obviously they aren't trying to and you are helping them because you love them and that's so kind of you but it's still to an extent, holding you back from doing more in your life. Hope you figure out what you feel is right for YOU and I wish ur parents will❤
Love my parents respect them a lot. But, especially for men one must make his own decisions and become responsible for your own decisions. You need to start taking care of your parents and relieve your parents from taking care of YOU
