  • After doing a few loads of laundry, I noticed some water running out from underneath the machine. Since the machine is 17 years old, I feared the worst. However, when I investigated the problem, it turned out to be a fairly simple fix that would save me $600 on a new machine as a new machine would have had the same problem.

Seems like you solved the immediate issue but not the root cause. Lint and crud could collect in the drain pipe slowing the drain. I had an issue with a slow drain to the street… a plumber ran an auger with a blade that cleared roots and crud… all good now!

Sorry for the late reply. You are correct, After I did this, I ended up snaking my kitchen sink and ran over 30 feet into it. This put the clog past the washing drain. I honestly haven't looked at the washing machine drain since then, but I haven't seen water on the floor.

Resistance is the problem. The fix works but you really might want to look into the drain line.

You are correct. I had an issue later on where my kitchen sink would back up when the fish washer was running. I snaked it, and fed in over 30 feet of snake before I found the clog. This was past the laundry drain. I think I fixed 2 issues with one snake on that one.

According to the LG service centre, they advise not to air seal the drain pipe

Agreed, the holes where the water was coming out is where it gets air to help it drain. As I stated in the video, these should not be sealed.

What is the name of black plastic piece? I googled laundry catch basin and I didn't get any results that look like it.

It's actually a piece of ABS drain pipe. It's called a reducer (I think) and can be found in the plumbing department of your local hardware store. I think this one is a 4" to 1.5" reducer.
