Someone gave me some type of a 'toasting tray' for mochi. (It looks similar to what is shown in the VERY BEGINNING of this UA-cam video...) They brought it from Japan, so all the directions are in Japanese (so I cannot read them). The toasting tray is square shaped, made of silver metal, and has cutouts or open grooves along the bottom (and is similar in appearance, somewhat, to the burners found on gas stovetops in the US). One top of this metal tray is another metal tray that is more mesh-like in appearance, and it is a series of small open 'squares' throughout. I can't be certain, but I am guessing/assuming that I can toast mochi on top of this metal tray, by simply placing it on top of my gas stove top (similar to how I might put a saute pan or saucepan on top of my stove, to cook something). I assume I keep the gas flame on a low height, and that the gas flame will toast and 'brown' my mochi. And then I just turn my mochi over at some point, if I want both sides to get brown... Does anyone know...does that sound right? Are you familiar with such a toasting tray, to be used on gas stovetops? Thank you!
Mfw my mom said she buy me a Japanese mochi and I see that it this once and ask her if she know who to eat this? And she be like no. Thank for information btw. It's a great help for us.
If you want something like grilled mochi, but don't have kirimochi I suggest you try making mitarashi dango. It uses rice flour like mochi, but it's a bit more firm and dumpling-like. The texture can be adjusted as it uses 2 different rice flours- joshinko and shiratamako. Joshinko makes if firmer while shiratamako makes it softer
This type of mochi is dry room temperature cubes? The kind we get is frozen and round and it seems like it's not as good as when I was a kid. It's kind of grainy texture, maybe it has frost burn.
What the name for this kind of mochi? Because i think i'll get it when i go to japan later. And in case i cant read the kanji maybe i can ask the staff there to find it for me. I really love mochi. 😆😆
I get it all the time at a nearby asian store and it's great. It's good if you want a snack to nibble on. The soy sauce one is especially tasty (I add sugar. My ratio is 2 tbsp soy 1 tbsp sugar for one square)
Oh well I found some on ebay if you're interested. It's a little more spendy than what you'd get on the ground but it's still a pretty good amount. I gotta ration mine anyways since the asian store I go to is an hour and a half away
Sorry , ;₩; But I want to know when I go to japan. Where can I buy it. Department Store? Please tell meee 😂😂 #If I spell wrong or say anything wrong, Sorry for english ;₩;

Question; should you oil a grill/mesh when trying to toast mochi?
Nah
@@zerovine8025 In the time since my original comment, I've found that out. Been enjoying grilled mochi a bunch this year :D
@@AkaAkoVT unexpectedly nice, congrats on your meal
@@zerovine8025 Also great cut into bits and fried with sesame oil. Puffs up a bunch! Makes for a delicious breakfast alternative to toast.
are you able to grill freshly made mochi from mochiko? would there need to be some kind of alterations to the recipe?
