A little over a decade ago I was not a fan of whiskies, because Canadian Whiskies are bland and terrible , to remedy this ignorance, a whisky loving friend had me try many different ryes ,bourbons, scotch's and other whiskeys. Out of all the different whiskeys I tried, the only common theme was that Japanese Whiskies and American Bourbons were the best ones. A decade later, it is 11 am and I'm already into the Elijah Craig :P

Great video, sadly let down by the audio. Please check your sterep mix and levels, put some filters on audio that you need to boost to remove background noise. Keep up the good work!

According to the TTB… Bourbon does not have to be aged at all. It can literally go from the still to a new charred oak container and then be immediately put in a bottle… legally that is “Bourbon”. “Straight Bourbon” has a minimum 2 yr age.

What a great time for American Bourbon! I highly recommend a trip to Kentucky to see the distillers in person. I just did that 3 weeks ago. I’m all about the drinking not the collecting or profit on finding the unicorns and resale. I’m a former Scotch drinker that has made the switch to American Bourbon.

The secondary Market and gouging a prices from liquor stores is the reason I go to the big box stores to get my bourbon a lot of them have a pretty extensive selection and a lot of them are competitive with those so-called allocated first world problems

The local liquor stores around me are hit and miss. I have a friendship with one store so he calls me when the truck comes in and sells for maybe 10-20 bucks over retail. But some store around me try and get every nickel out of a bottle, inch of dust on most of those bottles since no one is paying those high prices.

If they don't slowing down the prices the boom will end. People are already not touching bottles that are over 150 bucks , they are getting tired of the allocation and gimmicks that are raising prices too.

The sellers are getting very greedy, and the buyers are potatoes. Just putting the stuff on the shelf, not drinking it, and hoarding. But they don't give a damn about anyone else getting some. All fair, but I think if it wasn't for the hunters, and the hoarders, there would be a lot more to go around.

02:48 How does one go through the effort of making an entire 25 minute "Documentary" about Bourbon and get something a simple as the regulations of Bourbon wrong? Bourbon has to be aged in charred new oak barrels but there is not an age requirement to be called Bourbon. You could age it for a day and it would be Bourbon. It wouldn't be good Bourbon, but it would legally be Bourbon. If you want to sell Straight Bourbon it has to be aged for 2 years and Bottled in Bond Bourbon has to be aged four years. But to be called Bourbon, there is no age requirement.

Great video I’ve been drinking bourbon and whiskey for over 45 years I remember the lean times in the 70’s I was a George Dickle and Wild Turkey guy and I still ambit I drink many brands now from sourced stuff to the top Kentucky stuff I don’t chase allocated bottles I keep it simple and I won’t pay over 150 for a single bottle so some of these new bottles are just out of what I’m willing to pay for alcohol. But rare breed and knob creek are always on my counter.

Being a Scotch drinker for years I recently started getting into premium Bourbon’s and there many expressions I want to try but can’t find or won’t pay for. That said there are so many non allocated options for under $75 that are so good and readily available, hopefully the boom slows a bit and the hard to find bottles are stocked again.🥃

Unfortunately, if you prefer a bourbon bottle, the next time you go to the store to purchase a replacement, it might be wise to get two or more, since, I've noticed it takes a lot longer for the retailer to replenish their stock or you almost never see the bottle again. What bottles have I not seen again at the local grocery? Bookers, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, and a few overseas whiskey bottles have been more scarce. The good news is that some bottles that have never been in the area have popped up.

The bourbon boom is just another trend. Nothing but a ton of people who jumped on the bandwagon after a few people said some bourbons were very good. Watch the countless videos on YT of BT products, especially Blantons, lose to cheap readily available bourbons, but because someone said it was great its been almost impossible to find.

    • @fturla___156

@@shpfro I agree on most of what you said. But, because I no longer can rely on buying a food product with any consistency, when I do buy something, I expect that I will never see it again like going to a thrift shop. I don't expect to ever get an item again, and it's a once in a life time thing. Not complaining, that's just how life is.

See but peerless is one of those bottom shelf bourbons which there is a lot of great "bottom shelf" bourbons out there but having someone who doesn't even drink bourbon apparently doesn't seem like a good idea. For example, one of the reasons Makers Mark and Wild Turkey do amazing I think is because the leadership actually knows what to look for in taste instead of turning it into a scientific endeavor which doesn't always do well

@@shpfro Couldn't agree more. Bourbon is meant to be enjoyed. I wouldn't even think of paying secondary prices for BT products when there are a host of other bourbons that I enjoy just as much if not more. Woodford Double Oaked, WT Rare Breed, Old Forrester 1920 and even JD Barrel Proof are all readily available and very good pours.
