Just found this lovely version! I had never heard any of the versions of this song but kept hearing this haunting track everytime the trailer for "Men" would come on and it took me a while to track down the title and artist. What a great great great song and voice! Then to read this little backstory about the artist.... Unreal.... Kudos to the director of the film "Men" for giving this great tune new life and this artist new fans! RIP dear sista! You left an amazing piece of work here for all of us earthlings to share!
The single version ( minus this BS) is on 2019 release??? I disagree wholeheartedly, the BS you refer to really makes this track and makes it much more interesting and charming. .
I discovered this song last night when watching the film Men. It came on at the beginning of movie and it came on at the end only it was Elton John singing it
I'm almost crying now. I can't understand why she wasn't well known, she had such a great voice. And yesterday, she died. I can't believe it. And I wasn't interested in her music when she was alive... It is so sad, so sad....
It's funny but so true we only see and hear with our heart ❤️ when some is physically no longer there then we true appreciate and see and truly hear the talent why only then I am not sure except you never know what you truly have until it's gone ...I sulute YOU Lesley and your track LOVE SONG 🎵 such a beautiful song
Sounds of the 70s such a time a great time where birds 🐦 like sparrows bees and butterflies where plenty in a field just like these great singing artists God Bless you all and thank you for your wonderful songs 🎵 inspiring and inspirational and food for the ❤
Many years ago I was working in television and I was workings a series called 'THE DAVE CASH Radio Programme ' a musical series, and we going to film a song by a singer I had never heard of, the song she sang was ' Love Song ' I was blown away by her and the song, I talked to her about it, she told me she had written it in thirteen minutes and also told me that Sir Elton John played the celeste on the recording, I found Lesley the most beautiful person and was also a very spiritual person ' Love Song' tells you what sort of person she was. her legacy is her music.
I have to move to other country leaving my beloved family: my parents, my dog. It makes me so sad and empty, cold inside. Today i woke up with this song playing in my mind... and I get it as the blessing by quiet divine Lesley Dunkan, The White Goddess Tara in her songs and life.
Such an underated artist and one of the greatest songs ever produced. A song that I never tire of hearing that is spellbinding through the understated simplicity. RIP Lesley Duncan
Simply, superb. An inspiring song from a lady with the sweetest voice and harmony. Your inspiration fills the air with something it´s really missing nowadays withiin human beings........feeling the meaning of a love song, that some may called...humanhood !
i've just been watching lesley in a 1963 film called, 'what a crazy world,' starring joe brown, susan maughan & marty wilde. isn't age a bastard? who knows where the time goes.
@EtoileLituanienne I am totally crushed by this news. The lady that wrote my favorite song is gone. I have always loved her collaboration with EJ and that was my favorite heartfelt song of all time. I'm playing this over and over as I type this. Death is so awful for those of us left behind. Do you know what I mean? Have your eyes really seen?
Who knows? Lesley was a part time backing singer for the Floyd and Dusty Springfield so it may be she took some of the sound collage ideas. It only adds to the atmosphere of the song for me giving it a timeless feel. Considering everyone made a version of this song from Julio Iglesias to Bowie, Barry White and Pitman to name a few. As well as the ubiquitous Elton. This is by far the best version.
Recorded this single version on my reel to reel tape recorder in January 1970, when John Peel played it on Top Gear. A far better version than that on the LP, as the background noises and less polished sound make it more emotional and personal. Beautiful song.
I never heard this single version before! First made famous by Elton on his "Tumbleweed Connection" album, with Lesley. They also did a GREAT live version on the "Here and There" album. In my "Elton covers.." playlist with her album version and a cover by Olivia-Newton John. Similar sound effects are also used in the "TC" cover.
I often heard this back in its day and never knew what it was called nor anything else about it. When EJ covered it I was confused; as without having got the LP I still believed it was not a Taupin-John composition. To this day it remains a hauntingly beautiful enigma, a song with almost no title (but much meaning) covered by an artiste who *never* did covers and able to relate to everything-- summer, beaches, rollercoasters-- and anything at the same time.
Fireman Oly ... you opinion is a very good one. I used to be a volunteer firefighter, here in wonderful Western Australia. Best wishes to you ... this is truly a very lovely song ... I'm sorry that Lesley is no longer with us ... she was a very beautiful person...
Mrs Robert Koch here. I do realize she wrote the song. In my original comment, I had made a reference to my ignorance. I have a great admiration for songwriters, since I perform and try to learn from the craft. Please excuse my spelling of "realize" since I'm american. Thank you for your comment.
All the street sounds on this recording - the whistling, the voices and the woman singing at the end - make it so weird and psychedelic. Any ideas as to the why of it all? Was it a TV soundtrack?
Yes Tom I see you asked this question 11yrs ago I have my own thoughts on this in 2024 today August 22nd prehaps it was a beautiful sunny day beautiful when she recoded this track the cleaner came in as you can hear the hoover and she did say she decided to leave it in every thing was very organic the birds you can hear the whistling the someone talking a humming sound I think ot really encapsulated life in motion and all the things that go on while we do what we do be it recodeding Music my take on things Tom I pray your well 🙏🏾
Elton John was given a true gem of a song with this. In my opinion he took it and polished it a bit but both versions are great. I feel this one is a bit too fast and the whistling and voices distract a little bit, but hey, I have never written something so beautiful as this so it is only my opinion for whatever it is worth. not much LOL!
such a wonderful song. and she does it beautifully - though i have to say, i also adore the slightly cheesy version by olivia newton-john very much as well....and the terribly cheesy one by johnny harris ;)
With all due respect , I'll be honest with you, Elton John breathed life into this song. I listened to both renditions and they're similar but the arrangement by Elton John surpasses Lesley Duncan's. I realize that she wrote the song and it's noteworthy, but still Elton John hit a common cord. I understand that the dear lady passed away and her work will be her legacy for years to come. RIP.
Anyone know where this version comes from (apart from the Gather In The Mushrooms comp)? It's different from the version on the album and the sound effects are decidedly weird...
Funny how one could mistake her voice timbre and tonal range on this song with that of Natalie Merchant from 10,ooo maniacs....just sayin...or is it just me.
I know you're right but still... I wasn't interested in her music at all when she was alive. And it's the first time, I don't know why it is always happening to me. I always start listening to some artist when she/he is dead.
Don't like the Elton John version, too predictably 'histrionic' over polished, erstaz and overblown for my taste. This is the true work, revealing it's hand slowly, with patience and the real knowledge of the human condition. 'Nuff said.
You've perhaps heard the term "acid rock," referring to psychedelic styles of mid- and late-1960s rock? Well there was a parallel scene/movement in Britain (and to a lesser degree in the USA) of acoustic and folk-oriented performers bring aspects of psychedelia (trippy-ness) to folk music. "Underground" refers to the non-mainstream or commercial music scene. Look up "acid folk" on google.com and you'll get more information. (An example of an American acid folk band: Peals Before Swine, who influenced Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin and Patti Smith.)
Nobody sped up the song. If you listen closely, this is a different, earlier version to the one you're thinking, and some of us like this one better. Hay que afinar esos oídos! ;)

Eu vim pelo Filme "Men: Faces do Medo" melodia linda
Sublime song by an underappreciated writer and singer.
Lesley Duncan touches the timeless.

So beautiful
Lesley one of uks most underrated female singers she was good from 70s she wrote this song . mick
One of the masterpieces produced on this planet.
Absolutely.
well hi it's 2021 and I've just discovered this song in a old movie...so yeahh greetings from the future

Amazing song , perfect love song , Elton saw the potential , Lesley a beaut of a song , x
Such an underated artist and one of the greatest songs ever produced. A song that I never tire of hearing that is spellbinding through the understated simplicity. RIP Lesley Duncan
I also never tire of this
This melody makes me feel like I'm missing something in my life. It's so dark
maybe it comes from the other side of the moon.
It is. It's gorgeous.
I heard her "Love Song" on the radio when I was 22 in the army, and it helped form my perspective on life. Thank you Lesley Anne! 😇🌹
Stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. Still does simply bliss
I'm crying now because this is such a beautiful song, and this beautiful lady is no longer with us.
I hear you. I just learned of her passing recently
it's my fav Elton John song, yes I know Leslie created it.
so so soft no dramatic guitar or accompaniment of other heavy instruments just folksy - just lovely
One of the most beautiful songs ever written!❤
beautiful song, i remember it well.
i always felt like i lived before, when i heard this song i knew i lived in the 70s, it made sense to me
Thank you
Simply, superb. An inspiring song from a lady with the sweetest voice and harmony. Your inspiration fills the air with something it´s really missing nowadays withiin human beings........feeling the meaning of a love song, that some may called...humanhood !
Purely lovely and simply profound.
A beautiful and haunting song.
just so beautiful
wow beautiful
Such an evocative and tender song, another lovely memory.
What a lovely song ... jeez ... such beautiful memories ...
RIP Lesley......
So beautiful.... what a lovely song and voice. I love the lyrics.

Adorable. What a beautiful voice.
'Gather in the Mushrooms' is a truly wonderful compilation.
Its true..you wont hear a sonmg this real on commercial radio anymore.
Absolutely, the songs on commercial radio are to sell the ads. What an irony, and a sacrilege of true art.
Elton John recorded a very beautiful version of this classic. Love to one and all from Jarrahnut (Colin) in wonderful Western Australia.
@seanbl1 ...than you Sean ... just listening to it again and again ... it's a lovely song ... love is the key ...
Who knows? Lesley was a part time backing singer for the Floyd and Dusty Springfield so it may be she took some of the sound collage ideas.

This is by far the best version.
wonderful song.
I've never heard this version before. I have heard this song as a duet with Sir Elton John, which is a beautiful version. But this is also beautiful.
Recorded this single version on my reel to reel tape recorder in January 1970, when John Peel played it on Top Gear. A far better version than that on the LP, as the background noises and less polished sound make it more emotional and personal. Beautiful song.
I'd only ever heard the very rare David Bowie/Feathers cover of this before, but the original is just as beautiful as the one I've known and loved.
Gorgeous, isn't it?
Amazing grace
Great lyrics....Haunting melody...Love this song!!!!
This song is on my playlist right before an Aphex Twin track
Oh, which Aphex Twin song? Interested in which one "Love Song" would go with.
@@ruthalkons Hi! It's just a random playlist without any particular concept but the track you asking about is "Rhubarb" from '94

Wonderful song, wonderful lyrics. Truly great music.

Oh ! And by the way it is a sound track now for a film called Men
Love the Song, but it’s melody evokes sadness
No, it's wistful or melancholy--it's a slight difference and sometimes more powerful than just a "silly love song."
RIP
I happen to know that Big Hugh from Mundlimup also loves this song ... and Wee Col from Jarrahdale ...
Prefer this version
Reminds me of Bowie's version. Beckenham Oddity.
This was from the 70's?!!! It sounds like some Sarah Maclachlan song or some 2005 indie type tune

There is a slower version by Leslie on YT which i prefer, I'm guessing it's the album version.
Olivia Newton_john also covered it on her first album.
The words I have to say are nothing to these lyrics.
such a wonderful song. and she does it beautifully - though i have to say, i also adore the slightly cheesy version by olivia newton-john very much as well....and the terribly cheesy one by johnny harris ;)

I get that; but the EJ version is the one that sticks in my head and appears more 'haunting' to me. The LD version is much simpler, sparer and purer.
Lesley wrote this song, this is not a 'version' this is the original, can we just get that straight please?
Thank you.
it's likely been noted as there is another version she recorded 2 years later x
What was the cause of Lesley's death?
Anyone know where this version comes from (apart from the Gather In The Mushrooms comp)? It's different from the version on the album and the sound effects are decidedly weird...

Great song. But the whistling is terrible
acid folk underground? what the fuck is that supposed to mean?
