      Can’t we just unplug spark plugs and fuel injectors and just turn the key for about 20 seconds? I can’t see it being an issue.

    I am very happy to find your video. I just replaced a 5.7 Hemi in a 2004 ram 3500 with a honest to goodness store bought Reman. When I tried to let the starter spin the engine several times I didn't get a drop of oil. After following your excellent instructions the engine didn't even tap when it started.Thank you very much.

    I've primed engines in the same manner, one suggestion, buy a cheap inline filter for a lawn mower and put it inline with you tube to make sure no little bit of crud in the tank or oil goes in your engine.

    Thank you for the idea on priming the oil pump on 5.7 hemi. It worked out really well, and everything is primed and full of oil. Thank you. I subscribed to your channel.

    sometimes you can find those old fire extinguishers that are stainless steel i made one to flush trans coolers i also use to prime engines you can pour as much as you want i put a gauge on mine and put about 30PSI and goes real fast

    Another easy way is to remove 1 spark plug per cylinder, remove fuel pump fuse, and let the starter do the work by cranking engine over 10 or 15 times.

      I think the point is to prime it before spinning the motor over without oil for the first bit.

      Yes, prime all critical engine parts like connecting rod bearings and etc before using starter. You do not want to crank engine with bearings dry.

    Excellent video!!
    We just purchased a 2003 dodge ram 5.7 hemi that has not ran in 9 years. At some point the oil was drained and not replaced. Engine still turns free with a breaker bar and socket.
    We are unsure of why the oil was drained and never replaced and want to give the engine the best shot of avoiding any internal damage because of the lack of oil. Thanks!

    I have filled both those ports with oil numerous times now and still no oil pressure. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 2 wheel drive. There is a 3rd place on the front of the oil filter. It is the oil pressure sensor. Would it hurt to pump oil in that port?? At this point if I can't get oil pressure after all that work , I will just get a new truck. So disgusted. If you can help please let me know. Thanks very much!

    Quick question Is your motor oil in the oil Pan already or are you doing this before you add the oil

    • @SUBLIMEparts
      @SUBLIMEparts  3 роки тому +2

      We would typically want 2-3 quarts in the pan to keep the pickup tube submerged. It’s not required because you are priming the pump and the internals above but good insurance.

    could you just use an old air compressor hose. use one fitting on the hose from your hand pump thingy and thread the other connector into the block (probably with adapter). wouldnt that allow a quick shut off once you disconnected it and keep the oil somewhat pressurized?

  • @Hegbard
    @Hegbard 3 роки тому

    Dont know if it applies to all PCM setups but if I hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking the engine will only crank and not start ... I do that to prime after all oil changes or if it has sat for a while ..

    • @SUBLIMEparts
      @SUBLIMEparts  3 роки тому +1

      We didn't know that! But even if it doesn't crank, the oil not being in the lifters and cams could cause some wear initially. We definitely still recommend manually priming it before turning the crank.

  • @slicknapier
    @slicknapier 3 роки тому

    Hey guys getting ready to buy my EFI for the Hemi swap on my '83 CJ7, what EFI system works best for the hemi? Or should I say which one would work best in my case. It will eventually get one ton axles and 40's, but I dont need 1000HP or anything. I plan on keeping it pretty much stock. Maybe a cam and heads later.

    • @rayray9777
      @rayray9777 Місяць тому

      The motor takes 7 quarts do not ad more. You prime the motor first . The oil you use to prime the engine will be part of the 7 quarts. After prime , fill the engine with the remaining 7 quarts.

    May someone tell me the Threadsize ( Oilpressure-Sensor ) to prime an Gen 3 Hemi ?
    Or is it although 3/8 NPT ?
    Update:
    Found out, that it must be 1/8 NPT 27 taperd-Thread.....1/8 means an outer Diamter of 9,5mm because of Pipethreadsize.
