It’s very satisfying Tony to witness the heritage being honoured by you, it’s inspirational seeing the respect and dedication bringing such beauty to life.
Gratitude Tony, I am a hobbyist potter, and didn't know there was a way to build such a beautiful and full form without coils! Beautifully filmed and framed with a gorgeous sunset, wow! I loved it!
This skilled craftsman is truly an inspiration to watch in his craft. Pottery making is as old as man himself. This man, however, is a professional. Thanks for documenting for posterity this important craft.
Breathtaking. I was in tears. My ancestry is Purepecha and this touched me deeply as I reclaim my Indigenous Native ancestry through my beginnings in barro... Pottery.
Haaaa, I’m an Anthony Soares too! Not from Canyon De Chelly , from SoCal. Thanks for the comments. On my wedding date 11 years ago there were 2 other Tony Soares’s getting married on my date causing havoc with wedding guests sending gifts 😀
Learned about Tony Soares by way of Andy Ward. So happy to see Tony learning and passing on the traditional way of finding clay and making pottery. I travel throughout the Southwest and hope to one day cross paths with you. Thanks for sharing.
Just watched this from start to finish (I didn't get a chance to a while back) and OK...This was just incredible. Everything about this production is great. You're such a talented and gifted person.
I just started a ceramics class in college, and I’m falling in love. This was an amazing movie!!! Great to see someone keeping this art form alive/preserved well. 👍🏽
Tony what a fantastic production of your work and method. You had invited us to come down to visit you years ago. My husband and I feel very fortunate to have met you and grateful for the beautiful olla that you gave to us. Blessings to you and your family.
This video inspired me to make my first large round pot. I added sculpted tree branches growing out of it on the side, bottom, and top opening. I'm waiting for it to come out of the kiln now. Thank you for the inspiration.
One more thing: The advantage of knowing how to make clay pottery is that, today, almost all our kitchenware and utensils, including utility vessels, are mass-produced by machines using either molten glass, metals or plastics, and it's easy for common man to forget how the ancients once made their own utility vessels.
I'm inspired. I watched your corrugated pottery video and tried it. I'm still trying it and I keep remembering that you said it takes patience. A great lesson. Thanks

Are you by chance in Canyon de Chelly? You see, a few years back I recieved an e-mail stating " are you the Tony Soares from Canyon de Chelly, I finally found you." I had to tell them they found the wrong Tony Soares. Fast forward a few years, I find myself in college, and taking a ceramics class. Due to googling some info on throwing, your video shows up in my feed. Exceptional video! Very calming to watch with the native flute and naration style, simple straight forward, sart to finish, educational style was appreciated. I find my-self iIntringued by the paddle style, more so than wheel throwing or just pinch style. Thank You for up loading, I am inspired.
comes from andy wards ancient pottery channel that i just discovered a few days ago and he made a movie with you 2 years ago. so starting to subscribe to you twoo! looking forward to see a true artist at work
I wish more existed of my mother's people the Lipan Apache I watched my Great Grandmother make a pot as a toddler I am 64 no so around 3 to 4 years of age but you do know they our ancestors would call you a woman And taunt you with a marriage proposal. the men in my nation would at least.
Well I don’t swing that way!😀 I have a wife and two kids, I think there was a lot of men making pottery back in the day and a lot painting pottery. Every Rez I go to it is usually a man who is putting on the pottery class for me to teach. 😀😜
@@tonysoaresnativeclays1434 Ok i lived in northern Norway and i have find some natural clay ,i like to try this metod of making clay ,so then i try to rins the clay and making some grog .is there a special size of the grogcorn?
I make tiles from the raw clay, fire them , then pound or grind them into a powder, do not breathe the dust please. Then sift through a window screen. Everything that falls through is good. Maybe use 10 or 20 percent grog. It helps with drying and the shrinking

Amazing movie, but not enough views!
I agree 100%
I remember this movie well ,it started me on my journey to making pottery the way our ancestors did, thank you very much for this beautiful journey
Yes I’m a late starter on UA-cam, it has a bunch of views on my friends channel Clive Wright , send them my way!!! Thanks for the view. Tony
Wow! I was spellbound the whole movie. Beautiful to watch.

I am sure you learned the modern lgbtq take on potery in your class.
Also I am sure you like this video because the narrator is clearly gender ambiguous.
You're an obvious blithering idiot. I'm not taking up for other folks but this isn't the place to make dumb comments🤐@@charlesg5085

This was awesome Tony! I remember making one with you long ago. Mine didn't look like these 😊
The firing particularly was so interesting. Thank you for posting this video.
And there is also an amazingly beautiful basket
What an heartly learned lesson. Taught by beauty and skill.

Very good technic..
Way cool
❤
Ouhhhh they love those paddles. Slap that...
I didn’t see Tony working on the rims of the coils left on the inside of the pot. Wasn’t it filmed or isn’t it necessary?
do you use a binder in your paint?
Yes usually clay, maybe 25 percent or just enough to make it stick

Ok How do you keep it from turning all black ? Everytime time I try this it all comes out all black
It is the clay and the fuel . Hi oxidizing fuel . Some woods are just dirty
Is it possible to use wood ash sand and clay in this prosess?
I’ve tried wood ash and haven’t had much luck. I know they use it in India
@@tonysoaresnativeclays1434 Ok,is there much vulcanic ash you use in this prosess?
No , sometimes I use it, I mostly use sand and grog but grog is a lot of work to make , it is probably the best temper
