Dude love the channel man, love seeing the growth, and dig the fact you showcase like playboy and hustler before razors and wax were “cool”. Call me old school but I think a quad rail, S&B, LMT, and KAC is cooler n two skunks sittin’ a porch talkin about pussy, ya feel me? Wish I could afford it
@@kirtflesher1603 It's not totally irrelevant. Shooting c zone steel at 400 with a 3 moa gun you will miss more than you think you should because it's a 3 moa gun. Taking it out to standard cartridge size distances of 500+ and you will miss half your shots from a bench.
Kinda tired of being labeled as "poor" by some "gun-tuber" for not having the newest, super tacticool, rifle that cost 2- mortgage payments. I probably own the wrong sidearm, too.
@@vic2796false. BCA have been great for me and several friends. Every one of them have been reliable and average accuracy. All that at half the price of many competitors is a huge win!

All im gonna say is, i have diamondback db15 obsidian. I love it. Never had an issue with it and made cold barrel shots out at 550yds with 77 grain ammo. Love what you can enjoy.❤
Absolutely love my $399 Radical RF15 5.56, made and milled in house in Texas. Slapped some Magpul goodies on, Holosun and trigger kit. Gem of a budget rifle.
I picked one up for $349 at my local FFL. First and only AR. A couple thousand of rounds without a single failure. Will upgrade the trigger one of these days, and that’s about it.
@@jordanjoestar8839 Radical had issues in the beginning. They are now producing nice rifles. I can shoot much tighter groups than what was shown here with the Radical i owned
Not everyone needs a great ar 15. Most people don’t even shoot them and if they do not over 100 yards. I know people who still have them in the box years after buying them. I would rather have millions of them owned by the public than just a few great rifles owned by a few.
the other great point about cheap guns is us poors can purchase multiple different guns for the price of one super ar15. I gave a psa ar 15, psa ak and a psa akv. all relatively cheap (except for the akv) for what they are.
1. What was their twist rates? Did I miss it? Because if they’re 1:9 (does anybody still do that?), then they’d struggle with 77gr. 2. You should baseline those lots of ammo with decent carbine like a KAC, DD, or Geissele to show what the ammo is capable of.
I appreciate this comment more than most. You cannot randomly chose two loadings and decide to put them through 5 different barrels and expect anything if the twist rates can vary from 1:6-1:9(?). That being said, if I remember correctly 4.5 moa is milspec for a 16" m16. Of which all of these barrels did better than that. Idk why I'm so annoyed at this video ......
Just throw a ballistic advantage barrel i really dont see the need to trash a 400 gun if it gets you armed. Thats the beauty of the working mans AR you can change it.
Most people don’t realize that the working man doesn’t need “just as good” they just need “good enough”. I’m not air assaulting onto a house and then rucking 14 miles through the snow, up hill both ways back to base. If I’m in a position where a “good enough” gun is broken at a bad time, chances are, working or non working gun, I’m not coming out of it alive. Just my two cents. 🤷🏻♂️
@aRock-orSomething I think people get too hype up on branding as an easy assurance to bet their lives on and not regret it later. But the thing is if you have a Lil knowledge, machining is machining, a lower is a lower and upper is an upper as long as it's to spec it doesn't matter where it comes from not to mention theirs like only 5 distributors of lowers. Again. That's why the AR is an awesome platform for the working man and not the wannabe man.
I buy psa lowers and build them myself. Uppers I build myself and I always use a high quality bcg and barrel. To say that psa isn't worth buying is 100% incorrect. Maybe just skip their in house made barrels. They are a good company. And I have all kinds of top tier stuff so don't overlook my opinion like I have no clue what I'm talking about.
@@bennyknot you can’t say your stuff is top tier if they are built on psa lowers. Psa is worth buying if you just want a rifle and shoot like once a year lol. If you want something to actually abuse and train with and trust your life with, then yes, psa is not worth buying. Good company, below mediocre products.
Hi - PSA Upper and Lower owner here. What kind of Upper would you recommend shooting 556 with a can? Ihaven't purchased the can yet but any info would be appreciated!
I’ve been a fan of DTI rifles for a few years now. Something else to note is their BCG is chrome lined and all I have gauged have been super efficient. For the $ they are hands down the best on the market.
3 MOA with m193 ball on $400 rifles seems like a total win to me. The poor performance with high end ammo is really a shame though. I’d be very interested to see if you can get good accuracy with any type of loads, say hand loads or some other match grade ammo.
The gun shoots 3-4 MOA. Add that to the average shooter, who is lucky to print 6-12 MOA. The average person is a horrible shot. Then add a gun that isn't accurate on top of that.
Most seemed to be tighter than the cheap ammo but with 1 or 2 random flyers. I think he just wasn't being honest with himself about the source of the flyers. The guns have crappy triggers so he could have just owned up to 1-2 getting away from him.
I would like this. If you're a guitarist, there are certain price points. $400 can be a fine enough choice for playing out. You'll put some work in to finish the guitar, but at $800-1200, you find guitars that can really last on their own. Being only familiar with mil grade ARs, I would like to see $1000 comparisons.
It's always entertaining to see a guy that had to save up to buy a thousand dollar AR 15 call the guy that paid cash for 10 or more budget AR 15s in various configurations poor. 👍
Definitely a great possibility, I’ve seen several videos about how an over torqued muzzle device/ barrel nut can make a very accurate rifle extremely inaccurate.
DTI was a great first rifle for me. 12K rounds on it through the many years I owned it. No malfunctions and with a heavy barrel I was getting great groups with brown bear ammo. Would like to add that DTI was supposedly making parts for colt and other manufacturers during their hay day before they began selling their own rifles.
The reality is the American firearms market revolves around one thing, Home Defense. These firearms are all intended for civilian defense and public shooting ranges. For that purpose they all do just fine and put a hell of a lot of firepower in the hands of everyday people
I've been running a DTI-15 for a few years. I added shim stock around barrel extension and dropped in an ALG-QMS trigger. Its over gassed a bit, so I added an additional tungsten weight to the H1 buffer. Its been a solid shooter ever since, but it will start vertical stringing as the barrel heats up. Reliability has been 100% For the price, no complaints.
When you put it that way, it’s kind of hilarious hahaha But also, you’re not using these on your homies for fun so it taken a little more serious hahah
@@110sassactual 100%! I appreciate that these companies are attempting to arm the average American for the price of a decent airsoft gun. How well they're accomplishing that goal, up for some judgement lol.

For dirt cheap, they work. Thats it they work, nothing fancy, nothing special, they just work. (For the most part) Are they worth the purchase if you can afford better? No, but they are decent training rifles so you dont wear out your main rifle.
PSA is best value out there. Not the best rifle, but the best most trustworthy budget option. I'm a fan of what they're doing. They are manufacturing direct to customer and cutting out mid level distribution and resale to keep costs down. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how good we have it now that we have rifles like this as common when 20 years ago this didn't exist.

When I was shopping for my first rifle in the 1980s, the only Shiite-tier options available were a Chinese AK or SKS made by Norinco. There was no such thing as an AR at this low of a price point back then. I wound up with a Ruger Mini 14 GB factory folder and a few 20rd magazines for $400 out the door. A couple of years later, I traded up to a Colt R6600DH AR-15 for $800. It's crazy how much things have changed since then.
I still got my ak47 Norinco, and still shoot it every now and then, paid $150.. back, can’t remember, long time ago! But it’s a tack driver @ 50-100 yards, with steal sights.

Couldnt you buy full auto ARs in the $4-500 range in the 80s before the ban? I have heard from friends that lived through the ban that they wished they bought more of them since they are worth 10s of thousands now.
@@LowSpeedHighDrag5I don't, unfortunately. I traded it in on the Colt Delta HBAR, which I still have. I was just a barely legal teenager then, and $100 was equal to $300 today, so I couldn't afford to keep both.
Thank you for doing this, I have been thinking about getting a cheaper AR just to have one but didn't know which way to turn. You answered many questions there. Thanks again.
I no longer have a low end AR...my Colts are the lowest end I have at the moment. I've had DB, PSA and Del-Ton in the past. Honestly, I put the most rounds through a basic, entry level, Del-Ton Sport, of my cheap AR's. It had a pencil barrel and was a 4 MOA gun before the barrel heated up, then become worse lol However, I shot a few thousand rounds through that DTI, of all types of ammo, steel cased as well, and never had a failure. I had purchased SIG MCX around the same time, and it had issues, while the DTI kept on ticking. I called it my Sig killer, as it shot the ammo my Sig couldn't. I remember now, my local gun shop had a sale on the DT Sport, is was around 2017 I think and it was $299.99 before tax.
@@Himothy704 It's not the guy it's the gun. I have yet to get any of my psa guns to shoot under 2 moa even with handloads. My gieselle will shoot basically anything 1 moa or smaller.
For my first AR, I got an aero lower (for the set screw that eliminates wobble) and a PSA upper. The one thing i spent money on was an SSA trigger. Ran super reliable and was at about 1.5-2 moa (after a few hundred rounds and using 62gr) The nice thing about AR is once you get a good base setup you can upgrade it one piece at a time if moneys tight.
My first rifle was an M&P sport 2. My 2nd rifle was a diamondback and now i have a psa upper on my DB lower and have had ZERO issues and have had over 2,500 rds through her with NO MALFUNCTIONS because as a marine vet i always clean my firearms after shooting them
Hey Cody, I have to give you credit. At 14:17, Knights Armament Picatinny accessorie was installed on the PSA. That Picatinny part from Knights cost more than the entire PSA rifle. Super fun video. Stay true to who you are. Awesome content. Always Faithful, Always Forward Aaron Beaulieu
Making my prediction before watching the video. The anderson and del-ton are gonna work flawlessly, the psa is gonna have 1 feeding issue and also be horrendously overgassed, the radical may have a few teething issues in the first mag and then run fine, and the diamondback is gonna run just fine. I'll update my comment in like 40 minutes. Edit 1: didnt realize there would be an accuracy test. Assuming its done correctly then the psa is gonna be most accurate, radical barely sub moa, diamondback 1moa, anderson and del-ton tied for just under 1.5moa ... That accuracy test was... well... suffice to say it could have been done better. I don't believe any of those are 2+moa. My radical is sub moa, ive consistently gotten 3/8 moa with one of my psa barrels, my del ton was accurate but never had a magnified optic on it, ive got right at 1moa with 2 different diamondbacks, havent used an anderson barrel that i can remember. All of that was with norma 55gr fmj. Maybe it was the test ammo in the video and none of those rifles liked it, but to me seems like the shooter was at least 2moa at least on this particular day. Those rifles should have all done much better than that. Well, my reliability guesses were a little off, especially on the db, but was 100% on the psa being way overgassed. Definitely expected the del-ton to be the "best" of the bunch overall and id say it met that mark. Also for some reason i thought this was a garand thumb video when i first clicked it, took me a solid 10 minutes to realize it wasnt since id only seen this dude the whole time so you definitely had my interest. Earned a sub i suppose. And yes i realize this is the internet and nobody cares about my opinion, so if you read all this, my condolences. R.i.p. to your time.
I did a similar test with a DTI, Anderson, PSA and Andro Corp. DTI M-4. Shot fine, 3moa w/m193. Worked 100%. Super over gassed. Sharp recoil and 2 o'clock ejection even with H3 buffer. Anderson Utility15. Terrible trigger 8.5 lbs due to very strong springs. Gas block and handguard burns your hand with less than 30 rounds fired. Worked 100%. Very accurate about 2moa w/m193. BTW had 2 Anderson barrels from P/A that were awful 5moa m193 and 3moa with match. PSA 6 different rifles. All worked 100% average accuracy 3moa w/m193 and about 1.5 with match. Andro Corp worked 100% about 4.5moa w/m193. 1moa w/ match 5 shot. I've tested BA, Faxon, FN, Criterion, AR precision, WOA, S&W, BCM, Brownell's, Expo Arms and S/A barrels too. Kinda a crap shoot. Some are very accurate, and most are a little better than average. One of my best is a S/A light weight factory barrel. But another from a S/A Saint was awful at almost 6moa. The $300 Criterion was no better than factory and one of my WOA is .6 moa match and 2moa w/m913 20 shot group.
You’re out here doing the Lord’s work my man. One note: If you consider the kurtosis of the groups you can differentiate the quality between rifles of equal MOA; a 4MOA group consisting of a tight center cluster with one or two fliers (leptokurtic) is much better than a 4MOA group consisting of an even spread (ass, or platykurtic).
Aero is the cheapest I'd go for a "duty" rifle. Ballistic Advantage makes their barrels now so you know they're decent. Good solid rails. Build the lower yourself. Add a good trigger and bcg and you're good to go.
This dude came into the video saying these guns sucked and did what he needed to do to prove that. I love how none of these flyers are shooter error, this guy is a joke.
The guy shoots enough and has enough nice stuff I think he probably knows when it's him or the gun. And what is "do everything to prove they suck" ? He shot them. That's basically it.
In my anecdotal case this is just how they perform. I have a new PSA guns and could never get them to shoot better than 2 moa even with hand loads. I know it's not me because I have a Ruger and a Daniel that both consistently shoot sub moa.
Man I wish I saw this before I made a purchase. You're right though, I fell for a video or commercial as you called it. Good stuff man, love the brutal honesty!
I got twp PSA's back in 2018 for about $600 each. I did that by watching for complete upper's and lower's on sale with no shipping or handling. I got after market parts to finish both up. One is a 20 inch rifle and the other is a 16 inch carbine. Very happy with both. I have long said that your Second Amendment rights should no more be denied by economics than they should be by politics. If you can afford to pay $1K+ for an AR good for you. But not everybody can. And those who can't have just as much right to an affordable AR they can afford.
That’s fine, I’m in college and understand how hard it is to save money. But people need to stop dick riding PSA and saying it’s “just as good” bc it’s not. But at the end of the day if getting a PSA or other cheap AR gets someone into the second amendment and firearms then I guess it’s a win.
Most of us won't go to war or compete in serious competition. If it's 3 MOA and it jams once every couple hundred rounds: it's fine. I can stake my own castle nut and tighten a few screws.
@@rifleshooterchannel208 You totally missed my point. I have absolutely no problem with people like DD or LWRC making the product they to and people being blessed to afford there product. My comment was that there should be options for people who cannot afford such options. People like me. And we deserve to be able to defend ourselves from evil just as much as you do.
It just goes to show how great a good adjustable gas block is to making a gun run. Four things can change a gun for the better. An adjustable gas block, a good barrel, a good trigger, and a good buffer like kynshot.
He keeps talking about putting a PEQ on these poverty tier ARs and I keep thinking "Who's the dummy who prioritized buying a PEQ and then realized after the fact that they didn't have an AR?"
Keep in mind gentlemen the Colt M16A2 was considered milspec if it was shooting 4 to 6 MOA.. this is the US Army standard for a 20in AR... so go figure. the Rifles we carried probably shot around 5 MOA.. so all these rifles were shooting to US Army specs.
@@GrumpyNCOyeah, he's trashing on rifles that will outperform ANY small arm of WW2, the STG44, the MP40, Thompson , these cheap ARs would outclass ANYTHING those dudes were carrying back then.
@@Gloomshadow100you’re not very bright if you think those cheap ARs would outclass any gun in WWII. They would break down before they get to see any combat.
Picatinny has the most secure lockup. It actually makes a ton of sense to have pic at the end of the rail where you are going to put most of the accessories.
Man I won't lie, I don't agree with much of what you said and it feels like your standards weren't set up for these basic probably-barely-milspec nature that these all probably strive for (I was one of the people thinking about twist rate during the accuracy test), but you went out and actually bought and tested all of these rifles, put together all of this footage and gave us a whole video showing like all of the actual bottom-tier AR's side-by-side, big ups to you for that! Hopefully my comment helps with the algorithm for you lol
My first AR was a Del Ton, never had an issue with it. That being said i have since upgraded to nicer rifles because I can afford to nowadays but i still have my old Del Ton for nostalgia
While I appreciate the video, people who buy these rifles, myself included are not expecting a sub moa rifle. We know we are buying a plinking rifle that suits our needs.
There are also a lot of people that buy the cheaper rifles just to say that they have one and plan on leaving it in their closet and never shoot it. They want the peace of mind of owning one, but will never put in the time to run it through its paces and learn the rifle. But thats fine. There is a finger for every trigger.
@@paladin556I'm definitely that person. Most of my guns are safe queens. But I'm sure my db15 will put meat on the table or an intruder down if need be. I'm a Taurus owner also and have no problem with them either.
If you’re buying a cheaper rifle, disassemble and reassemble completely. Make sure everything is torqued to spec and you’ll have a great rifle on the cheap. Doing this will ensure a high degree of success.
So you saved money on the front end but then put a bunch of your own time and skilled labor into the gun to make it function properly? Fuck no, I know what I cost an hour. It's cheaper to just get a better rifle from the get go than waste my own time like that.
No, dude, just no. Do you have any idea how much proper gun smithing tools cost? Especially if you want to fully diagnose the rifle. And if you have the skill, knowledge, tools and time, why not use them to make money instead? Why will even bother with the cheapest garbage? Plus, you ain't fixing bad parts or crappy tolerance by just taking it apart.
Finally someone that gives a logical explanation of cheap vs expensive performance without trying to sell us a DD. However, if you buy the 400 dollar rifle and select a better barrel and furniture, you get what you want while saving money on less important items. And still spend less than you would on a top shelf rifle.
What you should've done is switch out the cheap upper with an expensive upper. Then shoot the same ammo, so we can all see the difference side by side.
No skin in the game with these, but I want to share a data point. I have a colleague that owns a Radical and it does not shoot this poorly... Nothing to write home about, but consistently 2-3 moa with WIN M193 and WIN M855. Over several training events, we checked zero @ 100yds and chrono'd it every single time, and it performed fine. That is all, thanks for the fun video!
I have a DTI hbar and it’s been bullet proof and really accurate for years. They actually use Wilson barrels in their uppers. Not Wilson combat another Wilson barrel company. Couldn’t be more happy with my DTI
Some people are just mechanically, inclined and want to work on their own gun start from the bottom and see what makes the gun function better and add onto that. It’s like building a custom car, sure there are a guys that like to get a pre-built lift a truck and drive around the beach, but there is other guys who would like to tinker with an old pick up and have that pride when it is done. Both sides of the coin can exist. One more point if you spend $1 million on a gun or one dollar on a gun, as soon as bullets start flying all your plans go out the window you are not gonna be pulling a T-Rex arms running drills when stuff really happens, work on that first get your adrenaline pumping while training, no type gun is going to help that situation within yourself. Have a great day.
A bit over the top take on cheap ar15’s. You’re not going to take a $400 AR15 to a contest!?! Yeah, I’m not going to enter a Honda civic in an Indy car race either! Plus you have no baseline. You should have shot an expensive one during the testing. So my suggestions: take the best cheap one up against one you consider good and redo the test heads up at the same time. Then throw out the worst shot of each round. Then calculate the MOA. You could continue the evaluation by throwing out the worst 2, etc…then rate the guns on how many you have to throw out to perform as well as the baseline. That’s fair considering cost is a factor to most of us. Civics serve a purpose and cheap ar15s do too.
For you to conclude that all of them are junk makes it hard to take you seriously, especially considering: 1) You only have a sample size of one. 2) You only tested with two different types of ammunition for accuracy. 3) It's clear that you pulled some of your shots. I have friends-some law enforcement officers, some prior military, and a few just hunters-who come to my place to shoot regularly. I’ve seen a few of them bring what you refer to as “cheap ARs” and completely outshoot the so-called experts using their high-end ARs, although, to be fair, they did make some upgrades. The reason people buy these rifles is that they can upgrade them over time.
Bought a mid length gas 16” PSA couple years ago. Was so over gassed it bruised my shoulder. I’ve shot plenty of 308 and 30-06 and all sorts of big calibers. Never had a bruise on my firing shoulder. Now that is over gassed. Haha
Im just gonna sit here with my polished PSA builds that actually have saved my life and eat my popcorn. Its all about how its put together, tuned, and maintained. You cant tell anyone that any aluminum or steel is more superior than the other just because a fancy stamp or logo is on it. As long as its not chinesium.
I've honestly found with the cheaper ARs that I've gotten better groups with the 62gr ammo, oddly enough. At least with the Radical and the 2 PSA rifles that I have for training.
I bought a PSA M4 2 years ago for a home defense rifle. . Only a few upgrades (LPVO, charging handle, ambidextrous safety). Got it zeroed at 36yrds and went out for deer season last 2 years. Can't remember the brand, but 77 grain ammunition has been very reliable for accurate and ethical shots on both deer I bagged, tracked the blood trail for about 20yrds from where they were shot. P.S. I consider myself a decent shooter, and the PSA M4 has served me well thus far after 1000 rounds.
Gentlemen, if you have a cheap AR , make sure it has a milspec M4 tugnsten buffer in itl Hes bellyaching about how harsh these things shoot and the PSA and maybe some of thr other ones are running the cheaper "pistol buffer" , its harsher , for 20 bucks put a M4 buffer in there and it will calm it down some.. He never really says what gas systems these are running, probably carbine gas system, its over-gassed to ensure reliablity and it kicks up the cyclic rate in full auto. All the rifles he shows can be upgreaded , buffer, triggers BcG , barrels.. they arent bad just real basic even the melanite barrel would probably pass fair military trials. Remember the origianl milspec XM-15 didnt have a chrome bore and it did real well until the ammo makers switched to ball powder and the army told guys that the rifle was slef cleaning😂 I would have no problem handing out any of these rifles to any guy in my squad if thats all that we had acess to, i wouldnt feel that they were unarned... "good enough for government work"
My 12.5in PSA loves Hornady Black 62gr, shooting 1-2MOA at 100yds. (Recorded) Got an eotech on top, light with pressure pad, back up irons, and YHM Turbo-K By far the most love I’ve put into a rifle for a little under $1900 for the whole build.
I’ve seen top tier rifles shoot the exact same and have the exact same cycling issues as these rifles. Hell, I’ve seen DD let a rifle slip by with zero rifling in the barrel.
I typically use PSA lowers for my builds. The gun I currently have set up for my local club's action rifle competition is a Radical. I didn't want to burn down my 'real' guns. Added an adjustable gas block. Updated the spring, buffer and trigger and several years in now it's flawless. I was so impressed with it I bought one and set it up for my parent's home defense
I have nothing but love for PSA. Love their motto and mission everyone should afford to defend themselves. I don’t own a PSA rifle but I’ve purchased a ton of ammo, sights, and various parts and accessories. Love them.
I have s couple of Anderson AM15's and they're solid and reliable. I did change some parts: charging handles, safety selectors to ambi, grips and stocks. They could be a bit more accurate but the overall package value of the rifles are satisfactory IMO. They always go bang and no catastrophic failures of any kind. If I had to spend out on a "high end" rifle, it would be a Geissele Super Duty 16" in ODG or DDC with no hesitation! Until then, I'm sticking with Anderson! Also, the rails for each rifle are full Picatinny (The scalloped rails look cool but that's about it). Overall, this comparison video was pretty cool. Good job!🤝💪
Mil Spec on the M4 platform is 4 MOA (source is from my current career). The fact that these sub $400 firearms can pull sub 4 MOA is actually a good thing.
Would like to see a comparison to the PSA FN barrels that are chrome lined versus other companies at a bit higher tier. It would be interesting to see how a PSA compares. I moved away from nitride and phosphate barrels years ago. Chrome lined only now. If I did take a step back I would go to nitride. Great video! I’m loving the channel.
Honestly man, from a guy who's owned a radical, and a "few" PSA ar's, if you want a reliable rifle on the budget just grab a colt complete upper( $450-600 from brownells) or a bcm complete upper and throw it on a PSA ept lower and go to town. Again I have a "few" PSA lowers and they're fine, just inspect it.
Imo you definitely should spend the extra money on a aero lower to get the tensioner set screw. It's the one part that you can't order online to your door so you mine as well get it right the first time
This is exactly what I did, too. Solid choice for a gun. I put a Colt M4A1 Socom 14.5 upper on a PSA lower (which just happen to be stamped M4A1 Property of US Govt.) I added a Geiselle SD-Combat trigger and it is one of my ultimate builds. It was vastly cheaper than paying for a complete Colt. PSA makes good stuff. A few of them grace my safe. I put together a basic M4 from PSA years ago, and it is a gun that I will never sell. The gun just runs. Back then, the upper and lower together cost me @ $350. Lastly, I decided to build another ultimate M4 Recce and used a PSA FN CHF 16" that sit on top of an Aero Precision lower. Again - super quality and the price was fair. I compared that upper with BCM (which I still want) but I couldn't justify the BCM price for what I was getting with the PSA/FN at much lower dollars.
@@brett9382 out of the half dozen psa lowers not one has had loose fitment with the upper so justify needing a tensioner screw, I have actually had the opposite problem with a radical lower and psa upper.
I've built enough cheap AR's to learn a trick or two to make these guns run and feel smoother. The buffer tube machining is crucial for a smooth action so higher end buffer tube is recommended BUT there is a cheap way to drastically improve the feel of any buffer tube cheap or expensive. Grab you some wheel bearing grease and give the spring a generous coating and slap that puppy back in. You'll instantly notice the sproing sound is gone and the rifle will feel and operate much smoother and continue to feel smoother as you shoot it. Pair that with a strike industries Flat wire spring and ideal buffer weight and you'll have a rifle that will feel more expensive than it is. As for accuracy eh not much you can do on that front, it's really just the barrel. Assuming there's nothing loose just shoot the heck out of it and hope that it tightens up as the barrel wears in.
Great video, One of my fav budget brands is del ton and im glad it preformed well in this class or at least as well as a budget AR can. They have more premium barrels and even chrome lined options, they're one of the few budget class manufacturers i would recommend. I also have a Diamond back and it's been kind to me, but it also was a bit more than 400 bucks, they're another manufacturer i would say are pretty good but i've never gotten a bottom shelf DB so i can't speak to this model, but some of their more expensive lines come with nice triggers and good barrels in my experiance. Sad they didnt preform as well on this end of the price range but its good youre getting this information out there. For budget minded people they need tools like this video to make a informed decision so please keep this kind of stuff up, because we all start somewhere(which is why i have a delton rifle to begin with it was my first ar).
I’m not saying these are good rifles but a 2 moa rifle is plenty good enough for defense and even hunting. I’d say 90% of hunting rifles made are close to 2 moa. Plus if you are hunting with a 223/5.56 you won’t be shooting any animal beyond 200yds. I’ve hunted since I was 6-7 years old so 30 years. Almost every deer I’ve killed was inside 100yds most well under 100yds and only a few 200+ yds. And as far as for defense that’s definitely going to be inside 100yds probably inside 25yds. A 2 moa rifle will shoot 1/2” groups at 25yds. But even if it was 2 inches that’s still plenty good enough. And if you use it for defense and the threat is beyond 100yds good luck proving self defense in court. Not saying it couldn’t happen but very unlikely. If the gun is reliable and 3 moa or better that’s all you need.
I’ve got a couple PSA’s in the safe. I didn’t buy them to go to war with, or play sniper at 600 yards. They are plinking guns, that are good for just that, plinking! They are also great for getting use to the AR platform, training, and learning how to use the system. As for accuracy, if you want to buy a budget rifle AND get sub MOA results? Replace the barrel!
Honestly, what's more important to me is how easy, or what is required to upgrade on these cheap rifles. If there is a rifle that is really good groups, but has a failure somewhere, I do wonder if all it takes is a new buffer or spring or something to fix it. Would love a follow-up 'cheapest upgrade' episode with these! The beauty of low cost starters is how much room it leaves for the future!
My first AR was one I built with some cheap parts (wanted to learn how to do it) Aero stripped upper, BCA 20 in barrel, Anderson BCG, PSA lower that was on sale with a SSA trigger (costs less than the trigger alone does). The only issue I ever had was mag related (used GI mags are a mixed bag). I won't try to tell you it's better or as good as a DD or a Colt, but it works.
So you're a lathe operator? Do you program or just operate? I'm actually interested in the process of manufacturing a barrel. I'm a machinist/tool maker in the auto industry. Also, I've heard a lot of cheap manufacturers don't even ream the barrel. They just drill to size. I heard that on the SOLGW podcast from a guy who is famous for making PRS barrels, I forget his name though.
I love my PSA. I just zeroed it again with a new sight, and it took less than one mag to put 3 through the same hole at 100yds. Regular over the counter 55gr target stuff.
Not sure where you got a new Diamondback for $399. The carbon series is their bare bones series & they are $700. I have two in the Diamond Series and they are a little over a a grand each. I’m shooting 1 MOA or better with 62 grain x tac green tip by PMC at 100 yards. You can get a great price on Palmetto for the ammo. Both have a thousand rounds through them as well with zero issues. I will mention I did install BCM’s BCG in both of them and a 2.5 lb trigger from CMC on one of them. The milspec trigger does indeed suck but they all do. These are both my cheaper guns and they do just fine so to the people listening don’t take this man word for word. He may have some good points but he didn’t try multiple brands of ammo & he didn’t even test 62 grain. Every gun has an ammo it likes, you just have to find it. Is it as good as my Daniel Defense? Of course not, but They are close enough that the price difference just doesn’t make sense & I would trust both of them if my life or my family’s counted on it. My palmetto is more like a 2 inch MOA gun but it gets the job done. Don’t let this man fool you into thinking they are Trash manufacturers. My palmetto was around $600 complete. So yes I’d agree maybe a gun for $399 isn’t suitable but I can’t find a diamondback anywhere for the price you mentioned. I think you need to make another video for that $1000 range & be more thorough on your ammo. Like my Ruger American in 450 bushmaster. I found ONE manufacture of ammo that worked well enough to hunt with. All the rest of the ammo was decent but not good enough to take an animal.
@ Did you get the carbon series? What website? I went to several websites and didn’t see that. I’m seeing $600-$700 for a carbon series. That price seems more realistic though, especially when they run deals. Just can’t find one for $399🤔 Either way though I don’t think he gave Diamondback the credit they deserve. Mine are great. Pretty sure a diamond series has the same barrel as a carbon series. The Lower and upper are just a little prettier lol
@Acousticman88 I got a pink and black carbon series for my wife from a local shop for 599 plus taxes and my very 1st AR was a white and black Diamondback that was used from my buddy.

I was just about to ask the same question.
The twist rate would decide the grain of projectile that should be used for that barrel.
I was yelling twist rate the whole time
Well he did treat the dog do better on the way to the trash can.
I have that same Anderson. It's a 1:8 twist.
Edit 1: didnt realize there would be an accuracy test. Assuming its done correctly then the psa is gonna be most accurate, radical barely sub moa, diamondback 1moa, anderson and del-ton tied for just under 1.5moa
...

Real mad your 300 dollar gun can’t outshoot a “gucci ar”. Hell an 850 dollar gun at that.
@samabinguap8303 is this english? Are you literate?
He said the 2.5 is on par with his expensive barrels then he poos on em and says they’re garbage!?!
Why don't you just put that budget money in a savings account and wait to buy something better. 😐
Implying that someone like DD or LWRC not selling you a rifle for $400 is somehow an infringement of your Second Amendment Right is wild 😂
DTI was my first buy. Built it up a bit with some higher quality parts, and I have no complaints.
He keeps talking about putting a PEQ on these poverty tier ARs and I keep thinking "Who's the dummy who prioritized buying a PEQ and then realized after the fact that they didn't have an AR?"

Picatinny has the most secure lockup. It actually makes a ton of sense to have pic at the end of the rail where you are going to put most of the accessories.
and where most of the recoil is felt for attachments
Diamond back for 399 is a steal. Also, no bear creek?
That’s what I was thinking I paid $800 for mine 🤷♂️
What is the twist for each barrel? Is it possible the twist rate was too slow to stabilize 77gr?
if 1:9, the twist typically too slow for 77 grain. it'll work but 40-62 is the best. 1:7 twist is best for 77grain. hope that helps brotha! god bless.
I have 3 Diamondbacks I'm beating the piss out of and they are all 1/8 twist.

@@armorers_wrenchlike its hard to put a upper together. ahhaha
I'd trust anderson mfg airplane parts before anything boeing has been putting out recently 😅
I zeroed 3 in one day for friends, never heard of the Radical prior. shot 55g junk and 77g match king. All way better grouping this this cats attempt.
For you to conclude that all of them are junk makes it hard to take you seriously, especially considering:
1) You only have a sample size of one.

My first ar was a del ton, came with a few upgrades from the factory, never I've I had a round fail when shooting.
I subscribed because of the Rihanna comment 😂
By far the most love I’ve put into a rifle for a little under $1900 for the whole build.
I’ve seen top tier rifles shoot the exact same and have the exact same cycling issues as these rifles. Hell, I’ve seen DD let a rifle slip by with zero rifling in the barrel.

@aaron.from.winchester6744 DD has plenty of problems, I would not say they're top tier either lol. They're an expensive mid grade rifle
The lack of understanding of the utilitarian/max flexibility rails on a budget rifle is hilarious.
I have nothing but love for PSA. Love their motto and mission everyone should afford to defend themselves. I don’t own a PSA rifle but I’ve purchased a ton of ammo, sights, and various parts and accessories. Love them.
I have one AR and it's the Radical. It's just fine for my needs.
Good job!🤝💪
My Diamondback shoots sub moa, but it's a diamond series that was $1000.
Mil Spec on the M4 platform is 4 MOA (source is from my current career).
The fact that these sub $400 firearms can pull sub 4 MOA is actually a good thing.
After 4 years of the mummy, cheap ARs are a necessity...
Better than nothing, just to make a statement of nothing else.
My buddy owns a gun shop and I’d say bear creek has the worst qc out of all the cheaper ars
BCA has the most trouble firing, that's probably why it wasn't included in this test lol
best video/ editing in the guntube world right now
Honestly man, from a guy who's owned a radical, and a "few" PSA ar's, if you want a reliable rifle on the budget just grab a colt complete upper( $450-600 from brownells) or a bcm complete upper and throw it on a PSA ept lower and go to town.
@brett9382 who cares if the upper and lower have play in them lol, it has zero impact whatsoever
Budget friendly and just as good. WE’RE GONNA TEST THAT!
My first gun was a Delton. I haven’t tested accuracy hard with it. But now I am definitely going to test it at 100yards
The 77gr problem is probably the barrel twist rates
They’re 1-7. So perfect for 77
@110sassactual that is depressing 😕
What you proved is Black Hills ammo is not accurate… when all rifles give same results…. It’s the ammo not the rifle! lol
Instead of a Feudal Lord, you're our Frugal Lord 👑
My first AR was one I built with some cheap parts (wanted to learn how to do it) Aero stripped upper, BCA 20 in barrel, Anderson BCG, PSA lower that was on sale with a SSA trigger (costs less than the trigger alone does). The only issue I ever had was mag related (used GI mags are a mixed bag). I won't try to tell you it's better or as good as a DD or a Colt, but it works.
I work at a pretty big barrel manufacturer in the blanking department. I've never heard of reaming a barrel for specific bullet weight. Just caliber.
The twist rate is for bullet weight, and that's done in the rifling process.
@@mitchellbryars9338 That's true if bullet weight correlates with bullet length, which is actually what the rifling is is cut for.
