I'm glad you mentioned Torpedo grass and Signal grass and it's affect on them. I have a lot of Torpedo trying to invade my St. Augustine in Northwest Florida. So does this stuff kill the torpedo grass? I have an invasion! My Zoysia is beautiful thick and green on one side of my driveway and on the other the Torpedo is invading! I bag it so it doesn't spread. Help!!!!

Southern most part of Louisiana. I have Bermuda and torpedo in parts of my st Augustine. Honestly it’s gotten better over the years. Cut high and cut often and you can keep most of it at bay. Bermuda goes dormant and the torpedo goes away in the winter. St Augustine comes back quickly and out thickens the Bermuda and torpedo every year. Won’t get rid of it completely but it’s what I do.

    • @GlenCannon239

@@pastelsliderz3097 I mow about once a week but it still wants to go under the St. Augustine and pop out in other places. I spray it with Round Up in the flower beds and it controls it there.

@@GlenCannon239 same. Once a week. Honestly I don’t see the torpedo grass until I put my first application of fertilizer down in the beginning of the summer every year. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but I do notice it about a week or so after. Torpedo grass will travel under anything. Stuff is a pain.

With PGR, you can slow down growth to comply with the no mowing ±7 days recommendation. Did my second application of Recognition and Fusilade II three weeks ago. It's a slow process, but it's definitely knocking back the bermuda. I have a small patch of torpedograss, but it doesn't seem much affected.

    • @TheLawnCareNut
      @TheLawnCareNut  Рік тому +2

Good tip on the PGR. I noticed almost nothing on torpedo also. Maybe some slight bleaching but that's it. I also had zero affect on signalgrass

I started using the PGR in august. I can’t mow anymore and the lawn service is once a week. The hyper growth that St. Augustine gets in the summer is handled much better. To bad the size it comes in will last me a decade.

It can be but the difference is the “safener”. In TTTF, you need to spike Fusilade II with Triclopyr instead of Recognition. The blanket spray rate is super low so be careful. 0.07-0.14oz/1000 of Fusilade II and 0.73oz/1000 of Triclopyr mixed in with a non-ionic surfactant at 0.5oz/1000.

Hey there, was wondering if maybe has tried using Tenacity for Bermuda control. It’s a really popular selective herbicide popular for cool season lawns. The label says it’s safe for cool season grasses and st. A. It is usually used as a pre emergent but looks like it may be a good way to treat Bermuda!

  • @adamketterl

I have learned to mostly overcome Bermuda grass in my buffalograss. I had a large area that I initially killed with glyphosate. I continued to kill the area for 1.5 to 2 years. Then I planted new buffalograss. For any small spots of resurgence, I kill them again with glyphosate. I have found that tenacity is safe on buffalograss but turns the Bermuda yellow. Using the Tenacity is a good way to find the Bermuda, but it still has to be killed with glyphosate. The buffalograss and Bermuda grass look extremely similar. I have been at it for almost 14 years and I would say I am 99% Bermuda free. Last year I had to kill two small spots about a foot in diameter. This year I have not found any, but may not have been looking hard enough. You just have to do as LCN says and get out in the lawn. It is a challenge to keep ahead of it. Thanks for all the great tips Allyn!

I am unreasonably excited about this. My yard went to crap this year from cold damage and the fact that I wasn’t able to spend as much time on it as needed due to the new bebe. The Bermuda took over everywhere my St Aug struggled. Probably got 25% of the lawn. I don’t care about the price that Bermuda is toast next spring!

The timing of the release of this product is unfortunate because for most of us it is going to be too late to apply on our St Augustine as it is about to go dorment very soon for most of the warm season grass zone (I'm in North Florida).
28 days to work puts us in Novemeber. If I applied today 10/2/23 my SA lawn would look like crap until spring with massive bare areas with no capability to recover effectively even with liquid fert in the mix. At this point unless yo live below I-4 or south Texas I'd wait until mid-late spring next year to apply this mix at this point in the season.

Yes but be very careful of temps and amount I used 0.6oz over my whole 7-8,000sq feet. My dad burned his using the same amount spot treating so he careful and start light and wait a couple weeks and use more if needed. Timing is everything wait till temps break into the 70’s.

Does this 'safener' work with other herbicide? Maybe you can mix it with one that kills torpedo grass.

@@TheLawnCareNut Any plans to do an update video on this approach to killing Bermuda in St. Augustine? I'm in Texas as well and really thinking that I want to try this approach this spring. It is an expensive option but the time, effort, and cost of sod is quite a bit as well.
So, maybe this answers my other question...after trying it last fall, you'd do it again with the better timing in the spring?
