Can I suggest a series? If you think it’s interesting and ever have the time? It’s inspired by a question that comes up all the time, I’m sure you’ve seen it, “is every seed possible to win?” It would be fun if people submitted seeds for runs that are ostensibly “impossible” to see if that claim checks out. Maybe it’s impossible if you make decision a, b, or c in ante 1, but possible if you make decision d. Maybe it’s impossible if you start the run on black deck, but possible if you start the run on ghost deck. Etc. etc.

LocalThunk has confirmed that every non-bugged seed is beatable on red deck white stake
@Horystar While this was the intended design goal (for every White Stake run to be winnable, and I do think it's true), I don't think this has actually been proven (nor would Thunk claim it to be true without proof).
Given the power of scouting/routing, I think it would be very difficult to cultivate seeds which are actually anywhere close to unbeatable. But if enough people wanted to volunteer seeds, I would be willing to check it out.

How do you think compost would be if it had some sort of Cavendish equivalent after being destroyed by overflow? Lots of options for what that'd be, but I'm curious if you think it'd make compost itself more interesting without needing to buff its power level.
(Sorry if this is answered in the video, if I don't type it now, I'll forget)
Cavendish is the only Joker whose unlock condition is having Michel go extinct. Feels disrespectful to encroach on that. But it could be interesting to have other Jokers with other interesting unlock conditions.
@@drspectred Fair enough, I can see how it'd undermine the "vanilla expansion" feeling, given that the base game would probably never see a second Cavendish.
Compost's design is an interesting one, scratches my brain quite a bit. It definitely feels like it's near the max "complexity budget" for a vanilla-style joker, but its unique destruction condition gets my imagination going.
One thought I've had rattling around in my head is that Compost might actually be perfect where it is, as it fits a niche in high-stake runs due to the fact that it's ineligible for the eternal sticker, padding out the item pool with a safe bet for the earlygame that won't overstay its welcome in your joker slots.
I really need to find the time to sit down with the mod for some proper gold stake runs. Balatro's the first game in a long time that I've actually had any interest in participating in modding (Submitted some crash fixes to Cryptid, and a bugfix to Steammodded). The base game's simplicity really works to highlight all of the synergies and interactions, which makes thinking about the design itself all the more interesting.

hey doc, what do you think about Hit The Road being changed to scaling xMult
Something like; Permanently gains x0.1 mult per Jack discarded (changing the value as necessary to be balanced)
I know you already view hit the road as 'scaling', in the sense that as the game progresses, you have more Jacks in your deck, and so Hit the Road gets bigger over time.
But this way, the 'scaling' aspect is written directly on the card, making it easier to understand that Hit the Road is actually scaling.
Additionally, Hit The Road becomes more consistent than it currently is (removes the aspect that in some rounds Hit the Road might be significantly larger or smaller than the expected value, given the amount of Jacks in your deck).
The Water also wouldn't completely counter Hit The Road.
Generally, we don't want to rework effects unless we're 100% done with them forever. I think it's interesting for a resetting Joker like Hit the Road to exist. You could get people to like it more just by making the number bigger, more xMult per Jack Discarded.
Hit the road could use a buff. Even with Perky this run it was kinda meh. Hitting 3-4 jacks is a x3 for way more work than just hitting the Trio would entail, since you discarded more than three jacks. Theoretically 10js can get that sweet x6 but realistically thats a tall order, and two five of a kinds can also beat most levels with moderate joker support.
For a Rare Joker, the number could be bigger, but not a lot bigger.
Do you think double rainbow could be a common? But shows up when you have a certain amount of lucky cards?
Uncommon could be gold and lucky cards?
We were thinking, what if it Retriggered all Lucky Cards everywhere, Held in Hand, too, like Red Seal does. So you could have some synergy like Shoot the Moon and Raised Fist (and synergy with some new Jokers in Wave 2).
That would be cool.

Im not sure if tarot cards removing a debuff was truly unintended or not. But if it was, i think it was a happy accident. Being able to use tarot cards to undo that creates some nice strategic counterplay. I'd like to see that stay, and I'd like future official updates to explore the debuff effect more, possibly including a new type of debuff that extend between rounds until "fixed" with tarot or joker effects
Agreed. A boss with the effect "1 in 4 scored cards are permanently debuffed" could be really interesting to play around.
The Arm permanently de-levels your Hands, and it is among the most loathed bosses. The Tooth can be wildly destabilizing to many runs. Generally, if a boss is going to end your run, it should just put you out of your misery right away rather than leaving you to limp along and bleed out slowly.

Is it possible to beat the game without jockers at all? Only taros and planets
Yeah! The game comes with 20 build-in "challenge" modes, and one of them is "Jokerless Challenge." It's one of my favorites. It actually removes the Jokers from the shop, so you get to see more of the other cards.
Can you try beating balatro with one of your hands submerged in mayonaise

I like your videos but this venture into the modded world is hard to connect with because I wont ever find these Jimbos in my runs. I play on mobile so getting a mod is probably a pain in the butt, if even possible
I like the arts and concept of all of these but one. Hand Book loses on all marks. It should be scrapped for better art with a simpler concept. Look to banner/mystic summit but with hands instead of discards in some way. Good luck with testing :)
