that thing he said about many people standing on Ellen's shoulders, wow. couldn't agree more. i am one of those people and Ellen has helped me so much and because of her i'm now accepting myself better and feeling better and since i started watching her show i've been so much happier. Ellen is a hero of mine and i'm happy to say she saved me. thank you Ellen you're amazing :)
That's awesome to hear..yeah,the thing he said about many people standing on Ellen's shoulders is very profound and very true..I'm glad to hear that you are accepting yourself because of watching her show..I think she's helped alot of people accept themselves and be happy with who they are,gay or straight..I
Two gay persons talking about a movie that discriminated gay people, this conversation was intense. I thought Ellen was going to start crying just like I did. And Jim never looked at Ellen or at the camera at the last part, why?
I know it's not directly about that but that's pretty much how they made the gay community look. For all I know back then they thought it happened to the gay community only.
It did for a time, actually.. Only gay men had AIDS, and that's why it was called "Gay cancer".. You know what? Never mind, the movie explains everything better.. I recommend it to you.. Just one thing: you're gonna cry..
For my own good I hope I cry. I saw 2 really sad movies and didn't cry. I'm starting to think I'm cold as ice. Anyway, I'll look forward to watch it. I want to see how it really was.
Johnniee Larue I saw another production of this, and I came out thinking the live production was better cast in every role except Tommy Wainwright. Jim Parson just cemented it into place.
This touches me so close. My father died of AIDS and refused to take his medicine because of the shame that his family threw at him. His mother made him use plastic cups and forks at her house and made him wear gloves because she didn't understand. My father contracted HIV through sharing needles and I believe that if AIDS was recognized more and thought of as more than a myth (Especially to the younger Generation) then maybe he would have been more careful in the first place.
"The ground I walk on is on top of the shoulder of the people depticted in this film" LOVE that thought, love that he recognizes it (why wouldn't he, Jim Parsons in incredible).
I know nothing about this movie they are talking about. I don't give a damn if Jim Parsons is gay or straight, nor to listen to a bunch of negative B.S. about him coming from idiots. I just see him on TV and laugh my butt off because he's the funniest entertainer on TV. When I have had a bad day, I can watch Jim on any show and he has this way about making you for get about the awful day you have. Jim is one of the best entertainers in America! I don't watch too much TV, but I like to see Jim do his act on TV and I go to bed feeling a bit better at night.
Such an intense, scary, brutally honest film. Many hard to watch scenes but nonetheless a favorite of mine since it's release. Could not have had a better cast! They were ALL perfect ❤️
Until now I couldn't see this movie, because it is not available here in Germany, it has to be ordered from the USA or Great Britain, but what Jim said at Ellen's about this theme brought me to tears and touched my heart. He is just a fine and sensitive man. If I would be a man, I would love him, too. Todd is a very lucky man.
It's so weird seeing Jim Parsons in real life and not as Sheldon Cooper. :P Anyway, I can't WAIT to see the movie. I don't live in America, but I do hope that I can soon find the movie online or even on DVD or something.
Muneeb-ur- Rahman Nobody has answered you yet, so if you're still interested, he Played a role in a REALLY BIG series called the big bang theory (if u didnt know) and he always knocked on peoples doors like that, knocking three times and saying their name hastily😂😂😂
One of my favorite movies. The most powerful part of it that hit me the hardest, actually involved Jim's character. How he would remove people's cards from his Rolodex and rubber band them together showing the three piles at the end.
Aw Jim, that was such a genuine string of statements and observations on our history. Wonderful of you to credit Ellen, and the beautiful people before her.
I just noticed that I find Ellen annoying when she's talking to people I don't like and I love her when she's talking to really interesting people like Jim.
I cried so hard watching this movie and to think...back then.... My brother could have had this problem.... something as simple as placing yourself there can mean so much. I couldn't stop crying at the end of the movie. (I just finished it... like 30 minutes ago... and this came up in suggestions and found it fitting.) I can't believe the discrimination... I would have been sick living back then and this happened. I would have been Ned. I don't even fucking care. He embodied (as well as Emma) how most should have reacted. And Jim's role in it made it more powerful. especially when it comes to the part that he took peoples cards and placed them in a stack. A very, very powerful message seeing the stacks growing and knowing they all were dying. I suggest this movie 260% of myself.
Two of the most incredible people I had the honour of watching and knowing (not in real life obviously).. I am straight and I definitely wouldn't know the problems they went through but right now they are like lights in darkness leading Humanity forward...
I watched the film in 2015. And i just watched this interview because i want to see Jim Parsons. So it's so unrelated. I'm so touched with his empathy when he said, "A lot of the ground i walk on these days is very much the ground that's on top of the shoulders of men and women depicted in this film."
One of the best movies made, should have been shown at movie theatres, shame on the big movie studios, well done to HBO and the cast and crew! BRILLIANT
The ceremony was held in the luxurious "Rainbow Room" of the Rockefeller Center. Parsons and Spiewak have been a couple for almost 15 years. Now they have married ... Congratulations May 2017
two movies i could never watch twice. the 'Titanic' and 'The Normal Heart'. my fragile heart simply cannot take watching them all over again. i sobbed like a baby when i watched 'The Normal Heart'. i think im gonna cry now just remembering it. ;(
The movie is amazing. The characters go trough hell and seems no one gives. At the beginning even the gay community doesn't give a crap. Brave was those, both gay and straight, who fought for awareness of this terrible disease.
@ Mansa Rijal: Just because Sheldon is portrayed by a gay man, that doesn't mean that he (Sheldon) is gay. Learn how to separate the actor (Jim Parsons) from the character he portrays (Sheldon Cooper).
Jim is literally an angel. Such a beautiful soul, would love to meet him one day!
Same!! I just love Jim so much ❣
omg your so lucky where did you meet him?!
that thing he said about many people standing on Ellen's shoulders, wow. couldn't agree more. i am one of those people and Ellen has helped me so much and because of her i'm now accepting myself better and feeling better and since i started watching her show i've been so much happier. Ellen was almost in tears. I love them both so much.
Two gay persons talking about a movie that discriminated gay people, this conversation was intense. I thought Ellen was going to start crying just like I did. And Jim never looked at Ellen or at the camera at the last part, why?
"A movie that discriminated gay people"?
Then watch the movie, because it's not exactly about that.. It talks about the first encounters with AIDS in the 80's..

I agree Matt Bomer is incredible, but I will never forget the character Tommy Boatwright in The Normal Heart. Jim Parsons is a fantastic actor.
Johnniee Larue I saw another production of this, and I came out thinking the live production was better cast in every role except Tommy Wainwright. Jim Parson just cemented it into place.
My two favorite persons in the world!!! I'm straight but I could marry both of them, definitely
GOD I LOVE YOUR NAME SHAMY FOREVER
Yeah,me too..I
ILuvFriedChicken2000
Yeah SHAMY 4 EVER :D
cool name ... marry how who ?
Yes, I'm sooo digging the Shamy!!!! And I'm a girl, so I'd probably marry Jim. I'm so fucking in love with the guy
looked like she started tearing up at the end...awwww :D

Am so sorry hun

he's smart in real life too
He's amazing! AND I totally agree.
That was so touching and lovely!! Both beautiful people! Want to see that film!

Truly A Great Interview! I love both Jim and Ellen so much.
They are also both so amazing!
It's so weird seeing Jim Parsons in real life and not as Sheldon Cooper. :P Anyway, I can't WAIT to see the movie. I don't live in America, but I do hope that I can soon find the movie online or even on DVD or something.
Love this guy! Wish I could watch him perform live.

Ellen looks like she's gonna cry
I think the entire cast of this movie did amazing. It reminded me of the movie MILK.
I so agree and just as he said it gives a message of hope just like MILK does
Thanks to you both!
One of my favorite movies. The most powerful part of it that hit me the hardest, actually involved Jim's character. How he would remove people's cards from his Rolodex and rubber band them together showing the three piles at the end.
What Ellen said really inspired me! "Try and understand instead of running away" 👌
Aw Jim, that was such a genuine string of statements and observations on our history. Wonderful of you to credit Ellen, and the beautiful people before her.

Ellen is such a huge inspiration :')
@ Mansa Rijal: Just because Sheldon is portrayed by a gay man, that doesn't mean that he (Sheldon) is gay. Learn how to separate the actor (Jim Parsons) from the character he portrays (Sheldon Cooper).
He is gay in real life, and is "married" to another man.
He isn't "married". He's married.
Actually, he's not married, but you get my point.
