Baba (Peranakan) - The Lost Culture of Phuket Thailand

- Phuket Thailand owes a lot to its its cultural heritage to its Thai-Chinese Baba Peranakan (predominantly Hokkien) ancestry way of life, the minor culture once present in the Malay Peninsula. Today, it’s estimated that at least 70% of Phuket’s population has Peranakan ancestral roots.
Several Baba traditions in Phuket have died. Its significance and identity has been dwindled through time. But with the effort of some Phuketians and local tourism units, some of the traditions such as food, costumes, and ceremonies have been brought back to life.
Amazing sub culture! Someone is smart enough to promote a Baba wedding package photo shoot ! OMG , Great idea ! 😍
Cool

Why there were no food in this vlog ?
Singapore's founding prime minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, was also a baba.
This is the proof that southern thailand until isthmus of kra is the malay peninsular and it means that malay kingdoms and malay ppl were there before they assimilated with thais
Taakan baba hilang di dunia

Do they speak malay?
Of course not. They are Thais. Malay is only spoken in Malaysia and Singapore
@@zhibinliu7263 what nationalities have to do with ethnicity ?
@@zhibinliu7263 phuket also still malay lands...only after been invaded by Thais the they speak Thais
@@zhibinliu7263 Phuket is name after Bukit (Malay word)...it used to be predominantly malay settlers...until British made agreement with Thailand and reduced the border of Malay Peninsula to what we know as Malaysia. Go read history. Lots of places in Southern Thai for eg Trang means Terang (Bright)...Even Southern Myanmar has places call Kampung...so go figure.
