I think they took the broad message of the original song that people are losing the ability to meaningfully communicate (due in no small part to the neon god of TV in the 60s, now cell phones/computers) with each other and narrowed it to music to convey the message. Sheet music represents the ideas locked away without the instruments to give them voice. So far gone was our communication that the instruments were abandoned, forgotten. The band unearths them and bridges the void to bring voice back to the masses.

The tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released this classic song of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today, actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing the many channels and each of their reactions and 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation. The song's lyrics is a wake-up call to humanity from the time it was written up to date.

I think it represents the separation of people and the truth the music brings.

Yes! The music sheet is an artifact! I love that concept. It fits perfectly. This video is like an old master's painting. It moves you in different ways over time. The videography. Amazing rollercoaster ride. The lyrics. The delivery. The voice! The arrangement. The angst. Belongs in the Louvre. Already in ,800,000,000 views/ hearts More! More! Bravo!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm and candor. I would like to hear your reaction/analysis to Beth Hart. Her rabbit hole is FILLED with soulful, raw emotion and she absolutely captivates her audience. To start:
-"Am I the One" live at Paradiso (2004)
-"Caught Out in the Rain" live at The Royal Albert Hall (2018)
-"I'd Rather Go Blind" with Joe Bonamassa live in Amsterdam

They say the Simon and Garfunkel version is the warning of the people communicating. Disturbed's version is the anger from people not heading the warning. People are so buried in phones, computers tv etc.. People don't talk or listen to each other.

The thing to get that there are two sides of a song. The song writer and the musician. Both sides much meet in order to create the music the we LISTEN (not hear) to. The song is about communication in general, but the video is more about music/songwriters specifically.

I interpreted this as the people becoming disconnected. A lack of communication. The writers and composers of the music...are separated from the musicians, by a chasm. They're trying to reconnect. They' re lost without each other. It speaks to the decline of humanity and all of us being domesticated automatons.

The music is the renewal of expression shown by recovery of the musical instruments. The self expression of humanity being supressed and misdirected with false gods and ignored by not speaking up.
I recall in that time, as we protested the Vietnam war, and for civil rights. We weren't being heard. Songs of the day reflected the coming of the new Aquarian Age of communication. Ya. I'm old. Obsessed with this version and Disturbed.

Remember the original when I was a kid, we got the meaning straight away, people losing their ability to communicate with each other. This version is more poignant for today…
